Cedric Tomes commits!!!

Both Harris and Jackson were quick and STRONG. Their overall physicality made them so tough to play against. Still can’t help but imagine what could have been if Harris stayed healthy.
Harris was not really that quick. He was strong though. He was a good player for MN.

Cedric Tomes is better than Harris and Jackson, combined. 😏
I keep coming back to this when I see the bolded "Cedric Tomes Commits" only to find it's nothing about Cedric Tomes. Anyone know when Tomes will be joining the others on campus for the summer?

He's going to be a senior in high school this fall, so I doubt he will be joining the team this summer.

Interesting… saw him three times last year and probably a dozen times overall.. I thought the offer by Ben when he made it was solid… IMO I question his quickness and power 5 athletic ability. Not real tall either. he has free reign at ER and will dribble like Curly Neal to get a shot off… I think his first year as a Gopher he will be the type you will be able to tell right away if he can handle the Big 10.. overall nothing to lose so worth the scholarship.. let’s go!

Watched him last night…. If you can find a replay of the whole CDH East Ridge game from last night watch it.. tell us what you think… he is 5”11… initiates a lot of contact and complains when he didn’t get the call.. CDH was physical.. he made some tough but took a lot of bad shots.. he won’t help much next year but I am cool with the signing.. my opinion above hasn’t changed.. some of high school move won’t translate to the Big 10

I talked to a ER fan I knew.. said it’s 25 seconds of dribble and then he shoots.. he said against Totino Grace everything went in and he shot 25 free throws…

I have watched 3-4 video's of East Ridge and C. Tomes. Note on 247 he is rated the 5th best player in the state, so keep that in mind.

Some of the time 6-3 184 JoJo Mitchell a St. Thomas signer was on him, but usually one of two other very small fast guards. Tomes was able to get past double teams and hit floaters and teammates over and over. He hit quite a few shots from 5 ft past the 3 pt line, the net doesn't move. Cretin won pretty easy as their team is loaded and East Ridge, beyond Tomes is underwelming. For them to win, like against Totino, he has to put up many many shots. Is he a ball hog, is it someone who is the only one who can get their own shot? Star tribune doenst have all their stats, so I don't know his percentages.

Positives, he is a superb ball handler and oustide shooter. He changes gears very fast, and has defenders off balance. He put 50 on Totino, and they may be the most athletic team in the state. He is an under-rated passer. I saw some great assists.

Negatives, he may be lucky to be 6'. He over dribbles at times, I have compared him to Marcus Carr, but he is smaller. Will be a bit of a liability on defense at his size and limited athleticism. I have also said Tartan's Jake Sullivan had a similar game and limited athleticism and carved out a nice career at Iowa St.

As a freshmen, he could be a lights out shooter off screens, and a backup pg to Willis, Asuma. Will he adjust some of his playground game to Medved's system? Time will tell.

Great write up. Thanks for doing this!
