During his recruiting trip to Minneapolis, fellow Californian and Gophers defensive back Brock Vereen was Thompson’s host.
Speaking over the phone after returning to California, Thompson said he “fell in love” with the University of Minnesota during the trip, citing the team’s desire to win and the visible support around campus for the football team.
Also, Thompson said he connected on a different level with Kill than with some of the other coaches who have courted his talents.
“I think [Kill is] a real nice coach,” Thompson said, calling Kill “understanding” and “real encouraging.”
Thompson’s coach and guardian, David Shaw, said he has handled most of the recruiting process for Thompson and that schools like Colorado, Arizona and Hawaii have also expressed interest.
However, Thompson said, “Minnesota is more of a place for me.”
Though a standout at two positions, Thompson said that as long as he gets to play, the position he’s at is of little concern.
Asked for his thoughts on playing in one of the most nationally visible conferences in the NCAA, Thompson responded simply, “Football is football.”
On Monday Thompson became the 23rd Gophers recruit, and the fourth projected secondary player, to sign a letter of intent to play for the Gophers.
On signing day, Kill said he had four available scholarships left, which would mean that with Thompson’s signing, three remain.
“Some of the best players I’ve ever coached … we got them about a month or month and a half after signing date,” Kill said, adding, “There are kids out there. There are good players everywhere.”
Fun to look back on things that were written about one of our two "two star Rivals" starting safeties!
Wow, you really are a troll. This isn't basketball, 1 player cannot carry an entire team to 1 win let alone a few. For example...
Cedric Thompson, Calipatria (Calipatria, Calif.)
Almost surpassed 300 yards as he gained 291 yards on just 15 totes, scoring on runs of 68, 29, 96 and 5 yards, but that still wasn’t enough in a 38-32 loss to balanced Escondido Charter of Escondido.
He averaged 11.5 yrds per carry and scored 27 tds on the ground, threw for 323 yrds and 4 tds, 168 yrds recieving and 2 tds. He had 3 sacks and 4 ints on defense. I mean what more can you ask? I have no clue if he can play in the big10, but your reasons for doubting him are ridiculous. Not every recruit is gonna jump off the page as a potential all big10 player, wake up if that's what you are expecting in our recruiting classes.
I'm sure a lot of you already know, but Cedric Thompson is one of the "stars" in a pretty decent documentary called Bombay Beach.
He is referred to as CJ Thompson in the film.
It's about living in Bombay Beach. If anyone isn't familiar with this area, it's a very bizarre area on the Salton Sea. It was almost like growing up in a ghost town. Well, Cedric moved there with his folks to get away from trouble where he was from (LA area, I think). So it's about him (he's probably 16 at the time) dreaming of making it big in football.
He's just one of the stories in the film, but the whole thing is pretty good (76% on Rotten Tomatoes).

i wasn't paying close attention and I thought this whole thread was about Tedric Thompson. I wouldn't mind seeing that comitment up on the boards soon.
