Brando took to Twitter to express his thoughts on the Gophers (these were last night):

So Minnesota you are on the clock and your "in" on Shaka, must have shocked you! Tubby takes a ton in the buyout, an your coach is? Enjoy. (Coach Esposito retweeted this one)

This just in you got your first NCAA win since Clem Haskins was Coaching. No, scratch that. It was vacated.

I'm sure he will and the best goes on. New President, new AD., and suddenly the existing guy can't Coach. Wish you the best

vehemently disagree with the move. I'm on record disagreeing with your decision. You need facilities more than a Coach

Minnesota let a good coach go. He wanted the best for his players and university! Minnesota is maybe 8th be ...

Thanks not trying to be condescending but it's a fact that the Gophers basketball facilities can't compete w/ others in BIG10

yeah well he expected better. It's not easy when there's only one floor to practice on,and everyone else has state of the art digs!

what's wrong is you can't compete if you don't invest in the proper practice facility, and Smith was promised it. Never happened.

Like I said NO SHAKA means more $$ for him,and more than likely an emergency call to a Search firm for Minnesota and UCLA. Wish ya the best.

He inherited a huge mess than even Monson couldn't get out from under. The program was in complete disarray.

Go Gophers!!

Man, you would have thought the U of M banged his mom, wife and daughter all at the same time.

Lets see if any of these coaches, like Izzo, who praised Tubby asks him to join their coaching staffs? Tubby is a class guy without question, but he lost it for coaching! Izzo is sad Tubby left because it was normally an easy win. He should be ticked off. As for Brando, who cares! Good move by the Gophers...

What is his problem? Talk about unprofessional.

And if Tubby is so great, lets see who hires him.

Well we shall see where Tubby ends up. Remember when we fired Mason? I believe there were some similar threads out there as we are seeing for Tubby......and where did Mason end up coaching?

"And you are?"
"Tim Brando"
"Tim Blandoooo............Can't thank ya enough for all your time"

You are making some assumptions with this statement. When Mason moved from Kansas, it forced his wife to close her dental practice in Lawrence. It is my understanding that he did not want to do that to her again. He also was offered a nice salary for a job downtown, he took it, thus taking HIMSELF off the market for coaching. Since then, he landed a pretty feet gig that any of us would take on the Big Ten network. Had HE pursued coaching, he was respected enough by his peers that he would have landed somewhere as a top assistant at a big time program or as a head coach. He put his career in his own hands. I have no idea where Tubby will land but to use Glen Mason in the way you did to back an argument just does not work.

Seems like the Southerners are the ones taking the most issue with Tubby's sacking (see also Atlanta Journal Constitution's insults aimed our way.) I guess they don't like our smartass Yankee attitude re: winning.

He's right about one thing, we need facilities more than a coach. But isn't part of the problem that boosters weren't on board with Tubby enough to contribute like was needed? I mean, if a dude is willing to foot the bill for the buyout (allegedly), I can't imagine they are too upset about Tubby being let go. If this leads to more progress towards those facilities, then I'm on board, cause that's gonna help us as much as any coach would.

Brando needs to chill out tho.

The national media thinks we are fools because Tubby Smith is a popular name and they barely watched our team this year. And if they happened to catch a game it was probably the Indiana win. Fact is, there aren't many local media members or fans who think it was the wrong decision (besides Sid). We watched the team all year long and it was unacceptable. It had nothing to do with a practice facility. The team on the court should've played much better.

Everything he said is 100% factual. The truth hurts.

They're still bent out of shape about losing the Civil War down there.

This! +1

Everyone knows we need a practice facility, which is why we are doing everything we can to get one. Maturi is to blame in that department. I laugh at people bringing up that notion regarding Tubby's firing though. Would a practice facility had helped Tubby avoid the annual January and February collapse? If the team was a top 9 team in the country without a facility in December, why couldn't it still be a ranked team in February? Ahhh must be the lack of facilities. Idiots.

+1 and yes.

Hey, he wished the Gophers "the best" at least twice. Sounds to me like he is a fan and clearly pulling for Gopher success.

Everything he said is 100% factual. The truth hurts.

He made some valid points about the practice facilities, but Tim Brando did not watch much of Tubby over the past few years if he thinks this is our biggest issue. Practice facilities hurt your ability to recruit, they don't lead to mass attrition, unwatchable execution and total meltdowns every single season.

Practice facilities are needed, but these old idiots are friends with Tubby and want to blame something else for his lack of success. The same practice facilities had THIS team at #9 in the country that eventually had us seeded #9 in the BT Tournament. Tubby did a poor job. How many years in a row did he have to wither away in the Big 10 for us to realize that Tubby was part of the problem?

Everything he said that is verifiable and not opinion-based is 100% factual. Better?

Depending on how you interpret his first remark, it is verifiably false. Our last non-vacated NCAA win came under Clem Haskins. No need to scratch that.

Tim gets grumpy when his handler forgets to change his Depends...he'll come around.

Everything he said is 100% factual. The truth hurts.

He said 1 thing that's verifiable. He said we have poor facilities.

Other than that. . . opinion....
we will hire a search firm? Illogical guess.
we had a good coach? opinion
Tubby inherited a huge mess? Sort of, but nothing like Monson inherited.

There isn't another verifiable fact in his senile rant.

I agree, but I've also heard Jay Bilas ripping it on every radio station that will let him hear the sound of his own voice.

I listen to the Tony Kornheiser radio show and Bob Ryan from the Boston Globe said something to the effect of "Minnesota hasn't won anything since the 50's without cheating", and said the reason why is the weather.

What pisses me off is all the defense of Tubby regarding him as a person, but ignoring the conference records and collapses. Tells you where journalism is in this espn era.

He said 1 thing that's verifiable.

5. He wanted the best for his players and university - FACT
6. the Gophers basketball facilities can't compete w/ others in BIG10 - FACT
7. he [Tubby] expected better - FACT
8. It's not easy when there's only one floor to practice on - FACT

If by "1", you meant "14", then yes!

(He could've better stated the "last win came under Haskins" part, but it was obvious he was referring to 1997 and not 1990.)
