This MN native is rated one of the Top 10 JuCo sophs by Basketball Times magazine in Nov 10 edition.

No idea whether Gophers are recruiting him. But maybe he would be recruited in the spring if Rodney or Trevor opt for NBA draft early.

Personal opinion, I have watched Carlos play many games over the years and he is capable of B10 BB.

Where did this kid play HS ball?

Since Tubby has arrived at MN the following players have for one reason or another left the program before finishing their basketball eligibility:

Bryce Webster
Brandon Smith
Travis Busch
Kevin Payton
Royce White
Justin Cobbs
Paul Carter

Monson had an average 2+++ players leave every year prior to using up eligibility.

Looks like those numbers do not change appreciably with a change in coach.
If neither Rodney nor Trevor bolt to the NBA next year its quite possible we could still have a scholly available for Emory or whomever.

I really hope that Tubby would recruit him if either of those to go to the NBA. He has the type of body and athleticism that makes our defense very formidable.

I don't think Rodney Williams will be leaving for the NBA draft this year. He now has an NBA body to go with his NBA athleticism, but is not even close to being polished enough nor does he have the range to play the wing in the league. I know a lot of guys get taken on potential, but he's so far away I don't think a team could keep him on a roster. He's a D-Leaguer now, and would be better off playing here than riding the bus and staying in Super 8's.

He can jump and dunk....but how is the rest of his game? I see from the thread that he is rated in the top 10 for juco players, but Bostick was juco POY and didn't exactly set the world on fire in the big ten.

His Howard TX team won the national JuCo title last season. Not sure about specifics of his game.

If he can jump and dunk, it usually means he can block shots, grab rebounds, and stick D. sounds pretty familiar....
MBAKWE much?

He did go the Eastview, but he also went to Edison, Kennedy and Jefferson. Senior year was at Jefferson.

No - his senior year was at Eastview. He was never on the varsity at either Kennedy or Jefferson - although he could have gone there and played on the Soph. or JV there.

Sounds like Williams and Trevor.

His senior year was at KENNEDY. Though he was not eligible to play.

Carlos had 28 points in Howard's win over Wayland Baptist JV 109-24, 22 in a 92-26 win over the Lubbock Christian JV, 19 points and nine rebounds in an 84-51 win over Western Oklahoma State and 17 in a 73-60 win over Oklahoma/Enid. He led the team in scoring all four games.

109 - 24 . That's getting into Brett Bielema range

Any updates on this kid now that Devoe has freed up a scholarship? I know he isn't a PG, but is he someone MN is still looking at and could sign?

Four left the program, three were shown the door. No big point, just saying there is a difference.

Carlos would be a good pick-up if we don't have Rodney or Trevor next season, doesn't overly excite me.

He would be.....

a perfect replacment for Mbakwe. Still need a guard to replace Joseph.

Perfect replacement? No such thing or very, very few in the country. He is also not a PF, he's size put's him at SF, but he has a very weak shot.

from personal experience Carlos would be a beast replacement for Mbakwe. They have similar games as both are exceptional rebounders with limited offensive games. If we were to land Emmory and Mbakwe stuck around a lineup that had both involved would be real hard to get a rebound off of. Now if someone on that staff would smarten up and pick up one of the many GREAT shooters in the state to replace HOFF we might be in business.

Thank you AuggieGopher......

Emory may not be quite as big as Trevor, but their games are very similar.....beast on the boards, no range....

Bryce Webster-Sucked
Brandon Smith-Sucked
Travis Busch-Sucked
Kevin Payton-Sucked
Royce White-Legal troubles
Justin Cobbs-From L.A. originally.
Paul Carter-Sister had cancer, can't do much about that.
Devoe- didn't want to play by the rules

To be honest, we didn't really lose much.

I've talked to Carlos three times for updates in the last 4-5 months and while he is getting some high major interest he's said he hasn't heard from Minnesota.

I'm not sure when he was at Edison and I can't confirm when or if he was there but I do know Carlos was a sophomore and junior at Eastview, spent the first part of his senior year at Kennedy and the second half of that senior year at Jefferson. He didn't play as a senior.

Two Carlos memories stand out:

1.) When he dunked on that huge Cali PnR guy who I think went to ASU or maybe it was UCLA. Caudil I think. He smashed on him and then got all tangled in the dude. Michael Much has a great photo of it.

2.) In Vegas two Julys back he had three monster boards, two dunks, a three and then an alley-oop in a small amount of time. After the first monster slam it was amazing to watch hundreds of college coaches on the other side of the gym all flipping through rosters at once.

I'm going to have to disagree with a few of these...I think having Travis Busch could have been very helpful to us last year. Obviously, no one knew that Tubby and Royce would be out - so the extra body would have helped. Beyond that, Busch was scrappy, he was willing to dive after balls, and do the dirty work no one seemed to want to do last year.

Bryce Webster - I don't think he sucked. I think he was a big man, that was a freshman, and as much as we'd like them all to be Greg Oden, it takes them a little while to develop. I remember when Spencer was injured, he stepped up in a few games, I certainly saw potential. And up until we got Ralph and Colt, we could have really used another big man.

I also do think we lost a lot without having Royce White and Paul Carter. Who knows how Royce would have gelled with the team - but Carter certainly did. Having him this year could have added another win or two to our record.

Brandon Smith & Travis Busch didn't suck. Smith had a ton of upside and Travis worked his ass off and only did good things on the floor.

KP, well he sucked.
