By the halftime mark of the game, I thought a bowl game might be out of the question..

Really hoping we can avoid injuries in Columbus, first and foremost. Seemed like players were dropping like flies today.

You honestly don't think the Gophers will be favored at Home against Purdue?!?
Missed one I guess. They should be favored in that one as well. Still a very narrow margin or error. I think even with 8 wins and a bad Cal loss we end up with a lower bowl. Gonna have to beat someone we shouldn’t to go to a better bowl game.

When all is said and done, the Cal loss might not look too bad

We’ll likely be favored against MSU and Wisconsin as well…

Curious who you consider "someone we shouldn't" and what you mean by "better" bowl game?

I think a very realistic target this year:

Music City Bowl. We've been passed over one too many times and it's finally our turn to turn up in Nashville!

Iowa went there last year with a 8-4 (6-3) record last year, and I think that is very much on the table for us this year still.

I respect your opinion and your post about being wrong.

You (and many others, to be fair) seem to assume that any time a game isn't going well from the first kickoff it means the team is being out-coached. I disagree.

These are young athletes, and this Gopher team includes quite a few freshmen. They make mistakes. And games have an ebb and flow to them, a series of ups and downs.

Again, I respect your opinion, but I strongly disagree that the coaching is bad. In fact, I came away from this game thinking that this team is extremely well-coached, especially considering their youth, their turnover on the o-line, and their injuries to key players.

Early in the game, Rutgers was destroying us on both lines of scrimmage. I don't think that's coaching, I think it's a matter of sometimes the other guy flat-out whips you. It's a tremendous credit to this team that they hung in there, fought back and won the game. Lindsey was lights out.
Pollyanna.

They eventually figured out how to move the ball but woof that defense is bad. Gave up over 200 yards rushing and pass defense isn’t good either. They will be favored against Northwestern but that will probably be the only one going forward. 8 wins is possible only if we win every single toss up game. After 9 years this isn’t where I expected to be.
I like our talent on D. I think we have some significant issues at coordinator.

This^

Any chance we can beg Nick Rallis or B Flo for 10-15 minutes or more of advice each week for Collins? Or Fleck can ask Dungy/Tressel, etc. since he doesn’t appear to be a defensive guy at heart…

Fuck it let’s just win out and make the playoff. Why not us? Why not this year? Everyone looks bipolar

So predictable. If the game starts out poorly, some Gopher fan says the sky is falling. If the Gophers lose, he says “I told you so” and pats himself on the back. If the Gophers come back to win, he admits he was wrong and pats himself on the back for being man enough to admit to being wrong. Either way, he gets to be a great person!
I'd say greater than 70% of people aren't man enough to admit when they're wrong and either double down on their bullshit or pretend it never happened. Back in the day, maybe there was some more humility. That just isn't a thing anymore.

I like our d-line and safeties. I think elsewhere the talent is thin. Coordinator has to cover for that.

I like Baranowski at LB .... looked like he had a bum shoulder last time he ran off the field I noticed

Close to 100% sure he suffers from stingers. I’ve seen that a lot through the years with a build that maybe hit harder than their body can handle. I like the kid but I’m not sure he’s quite even an average big 10 linebacker. If he stays healthy, he should continue to get better each game.We do need to upgrade here although that Karmo kid looks like he has superstar potential.

Depends what happens next week. If it hits the fan in Columbus and Purdue upsets Illini at home in that big rivalry game (after a bye week), then they may not.

However, I'm thinking Illini take care of business in West Laf and hoping for a Gopher-OSU score more similar to the Wash-OSU score today. Let's see

Gophers open as 9.5 favorites against Purdue.
