By the halftime mark of the game, I thought a bowl game might be out of the question..

Play-calling is separate from execution.

You can call a perfect play, but if just one kid out of eleven screws up or gets beat, the play gets blown up.

It isn't always about play-calling.
You can say a thing like this on literally every football play every called.

You can line up in power-I and run an Iso handoff in the A gap, and claim the exact same thing you do here.

You're not 100% wrong, by any means. But there's a line where play calling absolutely matters.

It matters, of course. But it isn't the only thing that matters.

That said, it's always fun as fans to second-guess play calling. "That was such a bad play-call! They should have run a different play!" After all, hindsight is 20-20.

Yep. I'm not trying to hurt any feelings, but we all might be happier if we could just let the game play out before we over-react.
And I completely agree with this. All I am trying to say is if we let that game play out the way it was going when it started, we would not have victory threads on this message board. We made massive and drastic changes at halftime. Yes, players make plays, but we changed the plays. The players were attempting starting around half time. Absolut complete change in coaching Concepts changed the outcome of the game. And that is why I really believe we saw something today that we have not seen in a long time. And that is a coaching staff willing to make a complete in-game shift in order to win the game. That was not conservative. We went progressive and it worked.

How many years have we go for France? Been begging to be more progressive than conservative. It happened today at halftime. That was awesome.

Like running a shotgun play on 4th and inches. Dumb. That being said, Drake, Ijeboi, Smith and Roy are a fantastic group of highly skilled players who ARE ALL FRESHMAN. That is pretty exciting to think about. We could have an absolute stud at those four spots the next four years. Outstanding.

Did the play-calling get better, or did the execution improve?

Maybe a little of both... ?

I would just say .. you probably didn't need to make a new thread. Make the posts in the game thread. Wait until after the game is actually over before making new threads?
Yep, save the knee jerk stuff for the in game cesspool thread. Bet that one was an all timer today with ups and downs of that game. 😎

I think we might have found a middle ground. Can we can both agree that the play calling and pace of play changed and got better and the execution got better ???

Whether We end up agreeing or disagree, I think we can both agree that the ending was awesome in Drake is a superstar.

That's why they play 60 minutes. It's called "adjustments".

We are not good on offense and our Defense is really bad. (Especially our pass D as our pass rush doesn't exist and our DBs are turning their hips too quick and giving up the 2nd move the WR makes.

Some crucial decisions will need to be made this off-season. I think we have some talented players and Drake is going to be really good if developed correctly.

That said, we are not fun to watch this year.

We are a 4 to 5 win team.

I think we go up against wisconsin with both teams being 5-6
I suggest skipping next week at The Shoe. You might consider becoming a Becky fan or worse...

Really though, sit back and enjoy the ride. It's already 1/3 of the regular season through...or 30.7% with a bowl game.

Really shouldn't jump off the cliff without a parachute or antigravity belt. Today Drake and Crew provided the needed safety net. Ski U Win!

Everyone overreacts so much after a quarter or two. This team probably is not great but they are good. Over the course of the next eight games they are going to surprise you both good and bad. I thought seven wins at the beginning of the year and I still think that’s pretty realistic. I get ripped on here all the time for being a negative Nelly but I’m a realist. They have some good players and they have some weak spots. They’re gonna win some games and they’re going to lose some games. Enjoy the ride. I do think next year they have the potential to be a 10 win team.

Nice backpedal.
I fully admitted I was wrong. I'd rather change the title to show how wrong I was.

We looked awful against Cal. We were completely out coached. In the first half of this game. We made so many coaching mistakes it was crazy. What we did after halftime on both sides of the ball was phenomenal. Great adjustments

I don’t think WI will be favored in any game the rest of the year. They might be 2-9 coming into Minnesota. Maybe at home against Iowa they pull one out.

I believe in the post-game interview, Fleck said, the run game was not working, so they gave it to Drake. That was the change; combined with Drake's execution won us the game. RTBSUMGG!!!

By definition, that is what is for...

So predictable. If the game starts out poorly, some Gopher fan says the sky is falling. If the Gophers lose, he says “I told you so” and pats himself on the back. If the Gophers come back to win, he admits he was wrong and pats himself on the back for being man enough to admit to being wrong. Either way, he gets to be a great person!

And you get to act superior, once again, by pointing it out.

We all have flaws my friend, even you🥴.
Gophers who live in glass burrows 🤷‍♂️

They eventually figured out how to move the ball but woof that defense is bad. Gave up over 200 yards rushing and pass defense isn’t good either. They will be favored against Northwestern but that will probably be the only one going forward. 8 wins is possible only if we win every single toss up game. After 9 years this isn’t where I expected to be.

Rutgers has a pretty good offense. Put up a ton of yards on Iowa last week.

Fleck frustrates me sometimes for sure, and that first quarter start was rough, but I didn't think our bowl streak was quite in jeopardy. The reason why is Fleck's teams have never truly fallen apart in his time here.

We had a glimpse of it in 2018. Started the year 3-4, ended the season 4-2 including the bowl game. The next season, won the game after losing to Iowa, and won the bowl game after losing to Wisconsin. Bounced back in both scenarios. In 2021, after the loss to Bowl Green, they won four straight. Had two more losses, then won three straight, including the bowl.

In 2022, hit a tough patch with three losses, then rebound to finish the season 5-1. Even in 2023, when things went off the rails in the second half, the team rallied to win the bowl game. Next year, begin 2-3, then win four straight. Lose a couple more, then beat Wisconsin and win the bowl game.

There have been games like Cal in the past and, yeah, it can be maddening. At the same time, Fleck's teams have notably been able to rebound.

You honestly don't think the Gophers will be favored at Home against Purdue?!?

Depends what happens next week. If it hits the fan in Columbus and Purdue upsets Illini at home in that big rivalry game (after a bye week), then they may not.

However, I'm thinking Illini take care of business in West Laf and hoping for a Gopher-OSU score more similar to the Wash-OSU score today. Let's see
