Bryan Greenlee former Gopher Leads FAU to Sweet 16 err Final 8 err FINAL FOUR!!

A lot of people criticized Greenlee as a nothing recruit for Pitino. I thought he should have had regular minutes every night and been given a role. He he wasn't given any opportunity and now has led FAU to the Sweet 16 vs Tennessee.
Happy for greenlee, and other guys like this who end up succeeding.

And this is a good example of why I’m still ticked off BJ didn’t find a pg to take a chance on in year 0.

Your point is taken that we shave chased young players off too quickly, but suggesting he is leading FAU is overstated. He’s a key player but not their star.

Based on what though? He wasn't better than Tre, you also had Carr, Willis, and Kalscheur. There was not a time to get him more minutes.

Thinking more along the lines - point guards lead. And probably utilized a bit of clickbait. 😄

No, he wasn't better than Carr or Willis. Not saying he was...I'm saying lots of games he never played. I thought he should of gotten a couple minutes each half is all I'm saying. Carr played 37 minutes a game. He was dead tired often...he still played. He got in foul trouble frequently and wasn't effective in either of those circumstances....he stayed on the floor. You have TV timeouts...you know they are coming... sub Greenlee in 40 seconds on defense before the break-rest Carr- he gets a two minute rest and very little game time is missed. Things like that--- play him 3 or 4 minutes a night see if he earns more minutes. As a sophomore he'd be 10X farther ahead and likely still a Gopher.
Instead, Carr would foul out with the score close and Greenlee would come in after sitting on the bench for two hours with 40 seconds left in a one point game and not play great....other different lousy situations is when he played. There were plenty of opportunities to get him 3 or 4 consistent minutes every night, so he has a role and see if he should be getting 5 or 6 minutes. We would have been a much better team. That's what I'm saying.

He's in his 4th year of a school and is the 6th leading scorer and 3rd in assists for a team in a one bid conference. The advanced stats suggest he's not among FAU's top 7 players. He's only 6'0 and has never been a premier playmaker in that league. I think there's actually more eviden

Starting PG on an E8 team. Good for him. Dude knows his role. Very solid defensively. 40% from 3. Hit a key one last night. I've watched a lot of FAU this year, they are fun to watch and very well-coached. Scary part is, the whole team could come back if they wanted too. Not one player has exhausted their eligibility after this season.

Fall asleep mid post?

Would he have been able to sustain it against a Big Ten regular season schedule, though?

That’s the thing with March Madness. It gives little guys a chance to punch wayyyyy above their weight, in a very short time and few samples.

They’d never be able to sustain it in big boy leagues.

Marcus Carr fouled out of 1 game the year Greenlee was a Gopher. It was a double OT game.

And actually that was the only game as a Gopher in which Carr fouled out. And it was in double OT—48 minutes.

Agree with your assessment. This is the strategy that was employed to give Amir Coffey a rest to ensure he remained fresh for crunch time - Michael Hurt typically subbed in for Coffey 3-4 minutes in each half and held his own while waiting for a rested Coffey to return to action - seemed to work out ok.

Hurt held his own? My god man. If you think Hurt held his own you must be thrilled with some of the guys on this team.

He averaged 1.4pts and 1.4 rebounds in 9.8 minutes as a senior. In relief of Coffey the year before his stats were somehow worse--including under 10% on 3s.

The year he average 19mpg he was a 3.2ppg, 2.5rpg guy. Even if you extrapolate any of those to playing every minute he is at best a bad reserve.

In other words, Hurt put up Ihnen numbers.

With the portal, roster balance is so critical. If you have too many guys at a position, they will transfer if they can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Pitino could identify talent he wasn't the best with it and teams seem to all fade.

When I say Hurt held his own, I mean exactly that - his role subbing in for Coffey was not to match Amir's offensive output, but rather to take care of the ball and play good team defense until it was time for a rested Coffey to return - I believe he performed that role well.

He was a well below average replacement player—at best

In my fantasy NCAA basketball universe, a guy who, after the first game of his senior year in college, hasn't started a game (ever in college), has to immediately transfer to D2. I'm sure guys like Hurt are great people. I don't care. I only care about them as college basketabll players. He should have never played D1. Same with MLB. Drew Butera was never a MLB player. Don't care if some MLB team actually signed him and put him on a game day lineup. He just wasn't a MLB player. Lots of guys can catch a pitch from a MLB pitcher. Had zero business ever entering a batters box. Rant over. Now back to your regularly scheduled discussion about former Gopher players who are kicking butt elsewhere.

True PG that adds value to the team as a whole without having great stats, everyone benefits.

Not in any game I ever saw him in. He was noticeably slower and the game never seemed to slow down for him. He tried his butt off, but everyone I sat around at williams cringed when he entered the games.

Michael Hurt was critical any time somebody full court pressed us. He was the quarterback, the director who got his teammates lined up and triggered the right pass. Very cool under pressure in that role.
He had other things he did well that are harder to describe. Definitely frequently had trouble on defense. Rarely comfortable attempting to score.
