Brosmer really hitting his stride - 1st 4 vs. last 4

Very interesting to see the betting line swing to the Gophers so quickly. If Bryant is out, that removes a real weapon … like us losing DJ9. Bettors don’t seem to give a damn about Bert’s record against the us. Go Gophers!

My only point is you keep your options open. After this season the coaches should absolutely look at who is out there in the portal that might be willing to come here. That includes power 4 and FCS guys.

It is a different scenario than last year but not completely. An experienced QB may not be overly threatened by the presence of a guy like Lindsey who will have been in the system for a few years but have very little game experience.

How the coaches approach QBs in the portal will tell us a lot about how they truly feel about Drake and his prospects for being the guy in the future.

And as I said before, best case scenario is that they feel Drake is ready to be the guy next year.

I am not disagreeing with keeping options open and exploring multiple possibilities. All good coaches will do that, PJ included.

But as good as Max was at FCS, he had only one goal. Start and play every game. Minnesota was his perfect fit and he was promised the starting job. Finding a guy with those abilities who is willing to take the risk of competing with Lindsey is a different matter altogether.

I think Drake is good enough to lead the team next year and has great upside potential. It would be foolish for PJ to go after another starter quality QB in the portal and risk him transferring. This sentiment doesn't seem to be shared by a few on the board.

I don't think the problem is Drake giving up and transferring. The problem is finding a starting quality guy with one year remaining wanting to risk competing with Drake.

Lindsey already has a reputation. Obvious physical skills and well-established as the heir apparent.

A transfer is not going to find many situations at the P4 level where the main comp is a rs freshman three star.

A red shirt freshman three star who has stood out with coaches in spring and fall practice. And one who is learning at the side of the master, Max Brosmer. Never underestimate the value of that.

He gets to see Drake every day in practice. Captain Obvious here, but if he goes after a qb in the portal it means he doesn't think Drake is ready. But we have heard good things so maybe we will roll with Drake next year. Imagine if we could get 3 years out of a QB like Brosmer/2019 Morgan.

I definitely think he will go after a QB in the portal. We absolutely need an experienced backup in case the starter goes down.

In the limited action that Drake has seen, to me it looks like he makes throws Athan is unable to. Has good touch on the short passes and sets his feet well on deep throws. With his measurables, NFL scouts will be watching him as he continues to develop.
