Brosmer really hitting his stride - 1st 4 vs. last 4

Could it be that his passing seems better, but has always been there.
They are throwing more in early downs when they have typically ran. That change from the old normal, probably helped open up the passing game. There seems to be better separation from the wideouts as well.
Darius Taylor is also showing up with receiving skills.
His downfield throws seemed to have very good zip against Maryland. Looked very crisp.

First off, Brosmer has been really solid all year and was a phenomenal pickup by the coaching staff. But has been a lot of fun to see him develop over the course of the season so thought it would be interesting to compare his first 4 games vs his last 4 games.

1st 4
75 comp
114 attmepts
836 yards
68% completion percentage
5 TD

1 Rushing TD
Team record - 2-2

Last 4
94 completions
131 attempts
940 yards
72% completion percentage

Team record - 3-1

Can't wait to see what the final 4 regular season games bring. Hopefully he keeps the upward trajectory going.
I'm here to confess my sins. I talked a lot of smack about Brosmer earlier in the season. I didn't think he had the arm talent or juice to cut it. He's legit, our bad output vs Iowa and Michigan seemed to come from bad run defense and bad offensive scheme.

If a one-year QB transfer comes in next year he is the experienced backup in case Drake goes down. Would not be a bad idea.
Why are we (again) anointing the successor without seeing meaningful reps? Minnesota has a lousy track record developing QBs. If Peej can find another Brosmer, Lindsey should be prepared to either earn the job or sit.

That’s what we heard about AK. I think even for coaches it can be tough to tell what you have at QB before they get a few games under their belt.
Best case scenario, Drake is the guy but given the state of the QB position and the number of guys out there the coaches would be crazy not to take a hard look at the portal and see who is available this off season.

Fleck is at a point in his tenure where he needs to be competitive every year and as we saw last year, bad QB play can really drag a team down (wasn't all AK's fault last year but he definitely played a big role in the offensive struggles).

So if they identify an experienced guy who can come in and play at a higher level then what Lindsey is capable of next year they would be foolish not to strongly consider bringing him in.

Just enjoy it while you can. He's gone after this season.

Here's hoping there's a good QB waiting in the wings for next year and beyond.
Thanks for your "Minnesotan" response, then your cohorts jump right in. Geezus. Must be hard for you folks to enjoy life. Relax and enjoy the ride.

So how about that Brosmer, huh?

Lindsey has more talent than previously "annointed" phenoms.

Odds of finding another Brosmer willing to come to Minnesota are scant. Remember, Brosmer came for playing time. He was annointed by none other than Peej because we had no one else. He was flat out promised the job. He might not have come if Drake Lindsey was a second year man and not first year.

Same thing next spring. You can chase guys who want to play and be assured they will play or go after a one-year player with some experience a lower levels and will be willing to come as a ready-to-play backup for the opportunity to wear a Big Ten uniform one year.

The Brosmer level guy is not going to take the chance of transferring to be No. 2 with Lindsey around.

Lindsey is of course willing to earn the job. He came to Minnesota to earn the job. That's why transfers will be non-Max types. Everybody knows what Lindsey has.

On the other hand, Lindsey for sure will have to earn the job all over again in '26 when Jackson Kollock is a redshirt freshman. He might be as good or better.

You are talking about a transfer from a Power 4 school. I agree, try to get him. But Max came out of FCS and that is where most will come from.

If you played three years at FCS and you think you are good enough to play Big Ten, you look for a Minnesota '24 situation where they will hand you the keys. You are not looking to possibly sit on the sidelines watching Drake Lindsey.

Some of you guys think the transfer portal just what the coaches want. Doesn't. The player makes the decision based on what's best for him.

My only point is you keep your options open. After this season the coaches should absolutely look at who is out there in the portal that might be willing to come here. That includes power 4 and FCS guys.

It is a different scenario than last year but not completely. An experienced QB may not be overly threatened by the presence of a guy like Lindsey who will have been in the system for a few years but have very little game experience.

How the coaches approach QBs in the portal will tell us a lot about how they truly feel about Drake and his prospects for being the guy in the future.

And as I said before, best case scenario is that they feel Drake is ready to be the guy next year.

In the limited action that Drake has seen, to me it looks like he makes throws Athan is unable to. Has good touch on the short passes and sets his feet well on deep throws. With his measurables, NFL scouts will be watching him as he continues to develop.

Drake is not transferring. He is the heir apparent.
I think Drake is good enough to lead the team next year and has great upside potential. It would be foolish for PJ to go after another starter quality QB in the portal and risk him transferring. This sentiment doesn't seem to be shared by a few on the board.

Based on what? He wasn’t as highly rated as AK, he didn’t have more offers.

A transfer is not going to find many situations at the P4 level where the main comp is a rs freshman three star.

He’s thrown four passes…

You get the best QB possible, if the second best guy transfers so be it.

I remember when Fleck wanted to grow QBs in the program. Athan’s Hindenburg season and subsequent departure (along with the other QBs) forced the hand unless he wanted to start a true freshman. Given the results so far maybe he reconsiders going forward. Get the best player available that meets baseline character criteria.

He gets to see Drake every day in practice. Captain Obvious here, but if he goes after a qb in the portal it means he doesn't think Drake is ready. But we have heard good things so maybe we will roll with Drake next year. Imagine if we could get 3 years out of a QB like Brosmer/2019 Morgan.

It's kind of part of the fun of college football. We often know the successors before we get to see them play any meaningful snaps. But I agree with your main point, every position should be up for grabs every year with the portal.

Best case scenario is always being able to build from within at QB but in this current era that is becoming less and less common. We stayed out of the QB carousel for a long time but eventually our hand was forced and fortunately it has turned out great.

As for next year.....the hope will be that Drake is ready to be the guy....that would be awesome because we would have a young QB with lots of potential years as the starter. Will be very interesting to see how the staff handles that position in the off season in terms of who they do or do not go after.

But I also feel confident the coaches will do everything possible to avoid a repeat of last year so if they have any reservations about Drake I would expect them to hit the portal hard because nobody wants a repeat of 2023 (wasn't all AK but he was a big part of it).

That used to be part of the fun of college football. The portal has wiped a lot of that out, especially at the QB position.

One of the main things I've seen is he just never seems to get rattled, and doesn't try to force things if they aren't there. Plus he throws a damn nice ball. That back foot throw to Spencer while dropping it in a bread basket was a thing of beauty.
