Brock just got picked by the Bears in the 4th round. Congrats to him!

Congratulations Brock. The bears made a trade to move up and take him too. Hopefully he has a great career....just quiet against the Vikes....

Congratulations Brock!

Schefter just commented on the pick and he loves Brock.

I was hoping the Vikes would grab him.

eh, I love the Vikes but they're currently one of the dumbest organizations in all of American professional sports.

Cnc, don't sugar coat it. Just tell us how you really feel! :cool02:

Here is Jerry Kill's comments via the U of MN:

Please attribute the following quote to Minnesota head football coach Jerry Kill on Brock Vereen being drafted No. 131 overall by the Chicago Bears. .

"I am thrilled for Brock as he begins his NFL journey in Chicago. Brock is one of the smartest and most versatile players I have ever had the privilege of coaching and is an outstanding young man. He is the ultimate team player and will do whatever is needed to help the Bears win. I know he is going to make Chicago a better team and will also be a great teammate in the locker room. He will be playing for a great coach and even a better man in Bears head coach and former Gopher quarterback Marc Trestman. I am also excited for Brock's parents, as they now have two sons in the NFL with Brock in Chicago and Shane in New England. It’s a great day for the Bears, Gophers and Vereen family."

Very happy for Brock but kind of bummed to see him go to the Bears. I was hoping he'd make it to the Vikings next pick as well. Todd McShay spoke very highly of him.

I want him to have great games at TCF in the next few years. I want the Bears to lose, but it would be cool to see him make some big plays.

I was hoping he would make it to the falcons with Shede or the patriots with his brother. I still can't believe Atlanta picked Southward over him.

Congrats to Brock! I met his parents a couple of years ago when we played at Illinois. They really seemed like nice people and a class act. I think this year's team will miss Brock's leadership and intelligent play more than that of any other player. This is not intended as a put down to any of the other outgoing seniors but rather a compliment as to how important Brock was to this team.

Go a Gophers!

feel like Brock is going to be a solid starter in the NFL someday soon. Wish him the best, just wish we would've nabbed him

Thought he would go before Southward, but Southward's pro day was awfully impressive and I'm sure the Falcons' coaches think they can make a player out of him.

But great for Brock! Love the kid.

Congrats to Brock! It was fun watching his development at the U.

I have mixed feelings on this! Brock is in a good position, with as bad as the Bear secondary has been, but then again it's ' The Bears'.

McShay just said Vereen is his favorite Bears pick of the draft. Said he should have gone in the third round.

Most mocks I saw had him going in the third round. Interesting the Vikes didn't take a DB until the sixth round.

Like others I am sorry to see him end up on divisional rival but hopefully things will work out great for him and he will have a long successful NFL career and then transition over to broadcasting. By all accounts, seems like a very good well rounded kid that is easy to root for.

This is the perfect landing spot for Vereen. The Bears don't have a single legit starting caliber safety on the roster. Bears fans want Chris Conte tarred and feathered, nobody has any confidence in Major Wright (my coworkers use their awesome Chicago wit to call him Major Wrong) and they signed 3 journeymen/ST types to come in and compete with them. After QB Chicago sports radio spends more time talking safety than anything else

Chris Conte is absolutely horrible....how he has lasted this long in the NFL is incredible.

Congratulation to Brock; his success in getting to the next level was a no brainer. This kid had NFL written all over him the moment he stepped onto campus. Great to see his perseverance pay off!

Nice job Brock - next up is Derrick Engel when he gets healthy his 4.3 speed will get him signed

Agreed. His 46 inch vertical should also catch the attention of a few teams.

While I am all for former Gophers making it to the NFL, Engel is not an NFL caliber WR. Not saying it can't happen (guys like Marcus Sherels prove that it can) but he would need to find a niche somewhere, probably on special teams and like Sherels I think he would need to show high end ability as a return man to have any shot of sticking.

ESPN story - Four Downs: Safety still a major concern?

http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago-bears/post/_/id/4692232/four-downs-safety-still-a-major-concern

Fact or Fiction: Even after free agency and the draft, safety is still a major concern for the Bears.

Dickerson: Fact. I have a hunch the Bears are not done addressing safety. Maybe a veteran player pops loose from a roster in the next several weeks, or a player is available via trade at some point before the start of the regular season. There are too many unknowns to simply close the book on creating more competition. Ryan Mundy is the closest thing to a starter based on the amount of guaranteed money he received from the Bears when he signed in the offseason, but after Mundy the picture is fuzzy. Will Chris Conte have a bounce back year following shoulder surgery? Is rookie Brock Vereen ready to make an impact as a rookie? Will the Bears give Craig Steltz an opportunity to be a full-time starter? All these questions will eventually be answered, but until they are, safety remains a concern.

Wright: Fact. Mundy and Conte, who is coming off shoulder surgery, appear to be the most viable options as this team's starting safeties, and I'm not sure whether fourth-round pick Brock Vereen can seriously challenge for one of those jobs. Vereen obviously possesses several enticing traits athletically, but the Bears probably need to add a veteran at some point before the start of camp (so the new addition has a legitimate chance to learn the system) to really ramp up the competition at safety. It doesn't appear that the Bears did enough in the draft to address the safety position, but at the same time there weren't many options, as Vereen was the best available after the team decided to grab Kyle Fuller earlier in the draft.
