per Bennett's Q&A:
Brian Bennett: Mitch Leidner has won a lot of games, but he's never been fully embraced by a large portion of Minnesota fans. It's understandable, as he has had his ups and downs. Disappointingly, he has completed just 52.5 percent of his passes so far this season after a lot of talk about offseason improvement and his work at the Manning Academy. His QBR ranks below Maryland's Perry Hills, who was just replaced as the starter. Of course, we must mention Leidner has played two very good teams to start the season in TCU and Colorado State. Last week's game in Fort Collins was kind of Leidner in a nutshell. He scuffled for most of the game, but when the team absolutely needed him to make plays, he led the Gophers on a crucial drive to put them in position to win in overtime. Leidner hasn't exactly had great playmakers around him at receiver during his tenure, either. At this point, 18 starts into his career, Leidner is pretty much who he is: a very good leader, a guy who can run for tough yards and won't back down from a challenge, but also someone who's simply a little erratic as a thrower. That will be good enough for Minnesota to contend in the West, but I'm not sure if it's enough for the team to reach the next level. But I'm also not at all convinced that there's a better option on the roster.
