Just a messy situation all the way around. Feel for any fans that setup holiday plans around a bowl trip that aren't going to get to see their team play. Thankfully the Gophers and WVU seem on track to get the game in tomorrow night without any issues. Hopefully it stays that way.

With so few regular season cancellations/postponements when the Bowls were announced, would have seemed like a pretty safe bet that all the games would have been played.

Omicron has been a huge curveball, not sure how much the transfer portal has played into it.

stop testing if players have no symptoms

Problem is that regardless of whether one player has symptoms....in a contact sport like football.....that player has a good shot to pass it to others. And nobody knows what kind of symptoms the other players will experience. So no.....this is a bad and reckless idea.

It is a good and logical idea because a collection of the most fit humans on the planet have miniscule odds of getting very sick or even moderately sick from a virus declining in strength.

Not chimed in until now...

It is wrong to treat omicron the same as delta. Enough data is in to know there is a huge difference in terms of symptomology and morbidity.

Unfortunately there is no realistic mechanism to distinguish between the two...so we're screwed as if they were the same.

And everyone else that they come in contact with? No. Spreading a virus that has killed nearly one million Americans is a stupid idea no matter what.

The chances of hospitalization or death has been near 0 for college athletes regardless of what strain it is. Most barely know they have it. That's been the case the entire pandemic. Plus, nearly all of these guys have been vaccinated.

Athletes are currently playing through more severe symptoms with the flu, then have to sit out for an asymptomatic positive covid test. This doesn't make any sense, isn't backed by Science, and this nonsense needs to end immediately.

A virus spreads because that is nature's way. Only total long term isolation of every human on earth can stop a virus from spreading.

Well stated fact.

doubtful the team is testing vaccinated players that aren't showing symptoms, so doubtful there would be "asymptomatic positive covid test"s - except among the unvaccinated team members. likely unvaccinated team members are getting tested twice weekly, whether they show symptoms or not

Its a new virus and an even newer variant of a new virus. a new virus that has killed about 1% of the 65+ US population. a new virus that's still killing about 1500 each day. yep, about the most severe impact on a college athlete is about a 2% chance of myocarditis - and half of those wont even know it. much of the precautions are to try and protect the 99% of the 65+ still living.

Holiday Bowl (UCLA vs NC St) toast.

Tell that to Justin Foster, Asia Durr, Jayson Tatum, Yoan Moncada, and on and on...
As you say this from the safety of your mothers basement.

Surely you've heard of the vaccine??? Worked well for small pox! And measles, mumps, polio, etc.
If everyone eligible to receive the vaccine in early 2021 had done so we would not need this thread.

Those vaccines actually work 100%. Covid vaccine is like the flu shot, not really a vaccine, merely a temporary fallible prophylactic like the flu shot. Produce dead children and young adults and you would have 100% compliance.

Data shows there’s been little to no transmission in sports like football.

Vaccines have never been 100%.

"One dose of MMR vaccine is 93% effective against measles, 78% effective against mumps, and 97% effective against rubella.

Two doses of MMR vaccine are 97% effective against measles and 88% effective against mumps." (CDC on MMR)

So when do you hold your yearly flu parties? No need to delay the inevitable, right?
You need to face up to your role personally of transmitting virus to millions of people. Yes you, Mr. Simpering Baby, are part of that human chain that contracts disease and spreads it around.

You sat on your ass on the couch last night but while you are bleating out your virtue signals today about how careful and morally superior you are, several people who were in the crowded club last night breathed in your face at the office, at lunch, and at the convenience store. You are a super spreader. Thank God our lads in maroon and gold are no where near you.

And surely you are aware that the majority of new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are vaccinated people. They are experimental drugs and not very effective, unfortunately.
