Bill Belichick to become the UNC football head coach

I'm quick to the trigger on this. It might end up being B.S.

I think the knee jerk reaction is that Belicheck can't recruit. I'm not so sure. He'll just need to focus on recruiting the type of player (and parents) that value constructive criticism and merit over hand holding.

Not quite buying it yet. One of the tweets says that UNC has to agree to his kid (DC at Washington) be the HC in waiting.

I don't see recruiting being a problem for Belichick since his name alone will carry a lot of weight with recruits.....but I just don't see him having the patience to deal with today's college athletes, Saben didn't.

I'm not surprised he wants to get back into coaching but thought for sure it would be at the NFL level. Going to be very interesting to see how he responds to the current culture of college athletics with unrestricted free agency and many players more worried about their NIL/Pay for Play check then what is best for the team.

The rumors and reporting on this have been all over the place. It’s not clear to me that everyone at UNC is on board, some “interviews” sounded like Bill maybe talked to someone… but not everyone.

If true, he'll need good player personnel staff and NIL/portal GM type. NCAA football is now professional, after all.

The way I read the story from other sources is Belichick has said he's willing to be the coach, but with a long list of conditions, so now it is up to UNC to decide if they want to meet his demands.

I'm not sure what NCAA football and basketball are right now but they aren't professional. Pro sports have rules and structure. College football and basketball just have chaos right now.

That might work for a year but long term it will diminish and fast if the team isn't very good.

lol....UNC shouldn't touch this with a 10 foot poll, there is no way it would end well. Belichick is not a good fit for the current college game. It would be a disaster.

Why would you even risk ruining your legacy doing something like this? The ego trip must be insane

This is all for his son.
Doesn't his grown adult son already have a job in a high-ish profile role at Washington? Earn your head coaching spot. If this is truly the case I'd be embarrassed to be the kid.

Initially I thought this was a bad idea for UNC, but after hearing Bill talk about it on Pat McAfee's show and how he's essentially going to build a professional feeder team that sets players up for success in the NFL, he sold me.

College football is operating closer to the NFL than ever. UNC will have a good amount of NIL to work with and Bill can sell recruits on playing and developing for a 6 time Super Bowl champion. I'm not saying it will work, but I can see how this could work.

He can sell the same stuff Deion is selling. Great coach who will hire good assistants and probably only have to be the closer on recruiting battles.

I think the real reason Belichick is interested is the possibility of dating college girls. His current girlfriend is 24 (he's 72) and maybe he thinks she's getting too old.

Why don't the Vikes use the Gophers as their own feeder team? Maybe they waste a lot of money on talent that doesn't pan out, but those handful you hit on end up paying for the initial investment exponentially.

Can't really imagine a guy his age and as coarse as he is with people working out well in College football unless he takes a 180 in personality.

At first I thought this will be a failure from the start. However, Belichick has many connections in football that it makes sense. Son is a DC at Washington. He could lean on bringing former coaches in like McDaniels and Patricia. He will have the boosters at UNC and I would look into hiring a former Tar Heel like Julius Peppers to be in a GM type role for NIL.
