Go Gophers!!

I mean, it IS a tough schedule, but I still think we have a good shot at 7 wins. I'm thinking 3-1 in the non-conference, and wins against NW, Purdon't, at Illinois, and Iowa. Granted, the wins aren't guaranteed but we'll have a shot. The following season will be the real brutal schedule.

One of the explanations for the Gophers' tough crossovers is that with parity-based scheduling coming in 2016, the Gophers won't see the Buckeyes and Wolverines very often in the future.

Are you kidding? Because this is now the entirety of our home schedule:

Bowling Green
USF
Western Illinois
Illinois
Maryland
Nebraska
Minnesota

None of those teams are good, and none are Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State or Penn State. Nebraska might be fun if they turn it into a November night game and their team is decent, but the rest barely even move the needle. BTN morning broadcast. Little chance of College Game Day. Slim chance of night games. Lower chances of games being on ABC/ESPN. Boring, boring, boring.

Only thing that will ramp things up is if LSU vs UW @ Lambeau comes into fruition. Other than that, the home schedule absolutely blows.

I understand for you people, at this point, watching Minnesota beat any kind of team like Bowling Green or USF would seem like the thrill of the century compared to the kind of product your fans are used to, but when you've had the kind of electric games like we've had at Camp Randall over the past few years, and build up the kind of game day we have here, you start to demand big-time mach-ups as a fan. This sucks. And this current year's sucks. And 2015 is going to suck too.

Let me get this straight. You don't think Nebraska is a good football program? And that Iowa and Michigan State's are better?! Hah you are delusional...and you have no right to complain about your NON-CON schedule. That is a cupcake home schedule that Barry set, not anyone else.

Well, if you read the following sentence, you'll see the thought on Nebraska finished. Obviously they are a good football program, but their teams haven't been very good. And yes, Iowa and Michigan State at home move the needle for us more than anyone else on the schedule (besides maybe Neb. if they are good). And lastly of course I can complain about the non-conference schedule as a fan. I don't care who set it. It sucks balls, just like the rest of the schedule.

Word on the street is that the LSU game(S) are very close to being announced, however! Please, please, please, please, please!

Nebraska has such a weak schedule, 2013 and '14, could be looking at only one loss each year before playoffs.

Just had a frightening thought today. When we go to nine games, god help us if we get UW, IA, and NE in the four home conference game years. We'll likely schedule only one BCS home and home with the home game to coincide with the four game year. This would mean, with parity based scheduling, that the other year could look like,

Dakota
N. Iowa
Illinois
Northwestern
Purdue
Indiana
Maryland

Well that schedule you listed is impossible as we're not allowed to play "Dakota?" or N. Iowa ever again, or any other FCS program for that matter.

Good point. Although JK seemed to hint on Sid's show that the jury is still out on that. Either way, I'm assuming it's someone unappealing because of the desire to get to 7 home games. Hopefully there are enough teams in the MAC,WAC, and Mountain West to go around.

Re: MCBadger's post, perhaps I'm overthinking this.

I will say that it is refreshing to hear the Michigan fans complain bitterly about getting MSU & OSU at home in the same year in '14-15.

Sounds like an exciting schedule awaits in 2014 and it will definitely make BCS case when we go 11-1!

Was reading a Wisconsin article today and saw that the west will get four home games in even years and five in odd. Wasn't sure whether that's been discussed. It will be interesting to consider against future non-conference schedules.

I think a big driver of the schedules in '14 & '15 was the Big Ten's clear desire to get Maryland & Rutgers games with most of the Big Ten's top names. Both teams get OSU, PSU, Michigan, Michigan State (all a result of their division) and Wisconsin. UMD gets Iowa and Rutgers gets Nebraska. If you combine that with everyone's games against their division you're pretty boxed-in before you even really start making the schedule.

Good to see Ohio State and Michigan both get byes before they play us. That should give them a fighting chance.
