Big Ten rolls out 2014 football schedules

Wow you guys a horrible draw! I can understanding having Michigan because its the Little Brown Jug game but having Ohio State play as well is not a favorable matchup. Honestly, no one in the conference is satisfied with their schedule so you probably aren't the only ones. At least its not both away.

In other news, I'll be happy to go to my first game at TCF banks stadium in 2014. Got a chance to check out the stadium last summer when visiting the Twin cities but I'm yet to see a game. Love the stadium and the campus and I'm super pumped to return.

Tell me how OSU, Michigan, Wisconsin and Iowa can be unhappy with their schedules.

so, now Jerry is not a moron for trying to get an easier NON CONF sched?

Huh?

Did you miss the press release where we play at TCU(regular top 25 team) in 2014? 2014 would have been a home game against a lesser opponent in UNC if we hadn't been such a spazz.

Well I guess we will see how good our program is going to be in 2014 and if it is truly headed in the right direction!

I saw the TCU addition but I am convinced the JK had 0 input on getting TCU and would have preferred 0 TCU on the sched. speculation, just pure sweet sweet speculation

First, let me state that I follow all the Big Ten forums including my own so my reply is based on what I've read from those blogs.

  • Michigan: If you look at their away schedule they play Michigan State, Ohio State and Notre Dame all on the road in 2014. All three rivals are on the road which isn't fair. Also, they Northwestern and Michigan State in the same venue for two consecutive years. Now factor that in with their home schedule: Utah, App State (lol), Miami (OH), Indiana, Maryland, a sanctioned Penn State team which possibly leaves their best home game to be against the Gophers. I may hate Michigan but even I admit their schedule is weak.
  • Wisconsin: If you look at their home schedule and who they play in the east they don't get any draws with OSU, PSU, Michigan or Michigan State. From what I can tell reading their blogs and talking to my friend, they like their schedule but favors more competition in the East. Moreover, they probably aren't huge fans of their home schedule either outside of hosting the rivalry game for the Axe. Most likely they wanted better draws from the East even though they play border Rivals.
  • Ohio State: Personally, I'm fine with playing Illinois since that's a trophy game so that doesn't really hurt too much. However, we play Minnesota on the road, which IMO, is a year too soon to be playing the Gophers. I was more in favor of keeping Iowa or Northwestern on the schedule again since its been a while since we've played. With them playing us this one year in 2013 who knows when we'll play again. Plus, I want to go back to Iowa City. Our home schedule is weak with Illinois, Rutgers, Indiana but we do get Michigan and have some really good road games.
  • Iowa: To be honest I haven't read their comments on Hawkeyenation but they have no reason to complain. 2014 will be a really good year for them to rebuild with no Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State or Ohio State on the schedule.

Nutty you goofy fella, I'd give you one of my tickets to the OSU/Gopher game but you have to buy me a couple beers in exchange for it.

Lol. You found me you stalker.;) I'll take you up on that offer for the ticket, and I'll buy you all the beer you want. You'll have to show me where the bars are around campus since I couldn't find them the last time I was there. The other alternative is that I could just buy you beer in the stadium since Minnesota is the only Big Ten school selling beer in their stadium. Deal?

Fuzz - take the all you can drink outside the stadium option even if one beer inside is more costly.

I'm gonna cut a fool over this schedule.

So do you think they knew this before they added TCU or not? Suddenly another cream puff looks appetizing.

So many wished for more competitive games for our Gophers. Be careful what ya wish for, you got it.

Tell me how OSU, Michigan, Wisconsin and Iowa can be unhappy with their schedules.

Are you kidding? Because this is now the entirety of our home schedule:

Bowling Green
USF
Western Illinois
Illinois
Maryland
Nebraska
Minnesota

None of those teams are good, and none are Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State or Penn State. Nebraska might be fun if they turn it into a November night game and their team is decent, but the rest barely even move the needle. BTN morning broadcast. Little chance of College Game Day. Slim chance of night games. Lower chances of games being on ABC/ESPN. Boring, boring, boring.

Only thing that will ramp things up is if LSU vs UW @ Lambeau comes into fruition. Other than that, the home schedule absolutely blows.

I understand for you people, at this point, watching Minnesota beat any kind of team like Bowling Green or USF would seem like the thrill of the century compared to the kind of product your fans are used to, but when you've had the kind of electric games like we've had at Camp Randall over the past few years, and build up the kind of game day we have here, you start to demand big-time mach-ups as a fan. This sucks. And this current year's sucks. And 2015 is going to suck too.

This is epic trolling. Good job.

Minnesota gets Michigan and OSU
Wiscy gets Maryland and Rutgers
Iowa gets Maryland and Indiana.

Yeah...that's Golden Gopher football. Thanks Jim. I hope both Woody and Joel send you a strongly worded email.

WTF is with that anyway?? I bet Jerry is pissed.

i smell upset city baby!!!!!!!!!! my chillis hot!

Yup, you got to play who's in front of you.
Time to step up.

So after one game this upcoming season, our first since 2008, Indiana goes right back off the schedule again, and we play them in Bloomington this year, meaning the earliest that Indiana makes their first trip to TCF is in 2015, its seventh season in operation as our home field.

I think it's time to start realizing that 2013 is the year the Gophers need to...

Yup, you got to play who's in front of you.

point to and be ready for.

Each and every season has to be played as though it is the season that the program has been building for. The B1G Schedule EVERY year will Give our Gophers all the challenge they can handle. Take them one season at a time. Why cry about the 2014 B1G schedule? Just show up for EVERY B1G Game in 2013. Focus on the 2014 B1G Schedule in 2014. Be ready for 2013 in 2013. The clock is ticking and the 2013 B1G season will be the best chance Coach Kill and his team will have for a while...

Win enough B1G Games and ooc games and go to a bowl game. You never know...it just might make the program better prepared to take on that 2014 B1G Schedule...

You won't see them in 2015 either. 2015 conference schedule is exactly the same as 2014 except home/away status is flipped.

2016 is the earliest date in which Indiana might come to Minneapolis. It's also when "parity" scheduling officially begins in the B1G. There is a pretty good chance that you two will be "paired" up in that process, since your two programs are so, ahem, "similar".

I doubt that's the case, or they would have announced the 2015 schedule simultaneously.

So our two crossover games are Michigan and Ohio State? What the *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#? That should never happen.

We've never beaten them both in the same year. And with the crazy scheduling, we won't get many chances. It's time. I think we all agree. It's time.

He's correct about the flip-flop in 2015. The order may change and they are still working out the dates, but the opponents and locations are set.

No offense, and not saying I'm not wrong, but: link?

Like Roger Dorn said in Major League.

"Well I guess there's only one thing to do, Win the Whole %$#$%^&*in' thing!"

Or something like that.

The odds of a coaching search following the 2015 season rose quite a bit with this news.

This schedule stinks really for only one reason - the 2016 schedule is unaffected by it (outside of record leading to parity scheduling). I'd be fine playing MI and tOSU in the same season back to back if it meant they didn't play them again for 6 years. But as it is if the Gophers actually do manage to win some games they'll get rewarded with... the chance to play them AGAIN.

Well, if I was that worried about it I guess I'd be clammoring to move to the MAC. Hopefully the Gophers start playing well enough to justify playing the big boys EVERY year.

Come on, that was Jake Taylor not Roger Dorn. Dorn was way too much of a pu$$y to say something like that.

LOL - I can't believe how some people here seem to be ready to write off Jerry anytime there is a challenge down the road. You may be way way under estimating the capabilities of Jerry and his staff. So why don’t you just let him play the games before you hang him. Maybe it's that you really don't understand what he has accomplished here so far at Minnesota. You also are missing the fun.

CBS: Big Ten 2014 schedule: winners and losers

Losers:

Minnesota -- Of all the teams in the West, Minnesota has the toughest cross-divisional draw as it's the only school that gets both Michigan and Ohio State. And along with the trip to Ann Arbor to open conference play the Gophers also finish conference play with both Nebraska and Wisconsin on the road.

maybe is has to do with only about a couple of teams you would be happy with, most of the conference is a bad match up for the gophers. In reading this thread, all the complaining about this and that....it is what it is and just like every year you win some you shouldnt and you lose some you shouldnt. What do you really expect?
