Big Ten rolls out 2014 football schedules

At first glance we could be 4-0 in the division with two huge games on the road to close out the season. Might be a time to make my first trip to camp randall.

And possible 3-0 when Iowa comes to town. When was the last time we had a meaningful November home game?

Turkey day at home and then the game on Saturday! That'll be great!

Really tough schedule to end the year. Would not be surprised to see us start 4-1 and finish 4-4.

We got hammered having OSU and Michigan as our crossovers, while Iowa gets Indiana and Maryland. Ugh.

That schedule is basically designed so Michigan and OSU are undefeated when they meet each other. That's really subtle.

And then they ran into the buzz-saw that is the Minnesota Golden freakin' Gophers! :)

That schedule is rough! It's going to be a definite challenge. 2014 is the year I've been looking at for Kill to step it up though. We will finally have an experienced, UPPER-CLASS filled offensive line. Plus Nelson will be a junior in the system. Has the potential to be fun and have some meaningful games at the end of the season (**knocking on wood**)

Interesting...

In a five year period, we will end up playing Iowa at Minnesota 4 times...

Glad to be winning our Axe during Rivalry Week again. You may be a crappy team, but your OUR crappy team!

Iowa plays in Minneapolis 4 out of 5 years (2010, 2011, 2013, 2014). Love it.

I also like how Delany is giving his boy Barry a handy under the table by having Wisconsin somehow avoid OSU, Mich, MSU, AND PSU all in the same year!!

Example of "It's not who ya know, it's who ya blow."

Really glad they broke up the Wisco, Ioweee, and Nebraska all home or all away scheduling. But like its been pointed out us having Michigan and OSU and Iowa/Wisco being handed wins on a silver platter is a load of horse manure.

Minnesota gets Michigan and OSU
Wiscy gets Maryland and Rutgers
Iowa gets Maryland and Indiana.

Yeah...that's Golden Gopher football. Thanks Jim. I hope both Woody and Joel send you a strongly worded email.

So our two crossover games are Michigan and Ohio State? What the *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#? That should never happen.

Not impressive schedules for the helmet schools in hopes of landing one of the CF playoff spots.

...and everyone else states - WTF? Michigan and OSU? There's absolutely no reason both have to be on a crossover team's schedule in any year when you only get to play 2 of the 7 teams.

Does anyone know whether it's like the old days where you kept the same set for 2 years or does it change every year?

While getting OSU/MI is tough I'd be even more worried if we get the same set in 2015. Also, with the change to 9 conference games one would hope that they won't reshuffle again - in other words, we shouldn't have OSU/MI appear again just because they start a 9th game.

Haha, we got screwed so hard. Oh well, will just make it easier for us to get in the playoffs....

Wow you guys a horrible draw! I can understanding having Michigan because its the Little Brown Jug game but having Ohio State play as well is not a favorable matchup. Honestly, no one in the conference is satisfied with their schedule so you probably aren't the only ones. At least its not both away.

In other news, I'll be happy to go to my first game at TCF banks stadium in 2014. Got a chance to check out the stadium last summer when visiting the Twin cities but I'm yet to see a game. Love the stadium and the campus and I'm super pumped to return.

You likely won't see OSU play Minnesota too much, maybe once every four years but you will see Michigan play a lot more since its a trophy game.

Nutty you goofy fella, I'd give you one of my tickets to the OSU/Gopher game but you have to buy me a couple beers in exchange for it.

How about Rutgers' opening stretch: Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska, Wisconsin. Yikes.

Also what's up with Rittenburg saying we play for the frozen axe? I've never heard it called that. Have I been out in the cold?

"Trying" to be clever....insinuating that it's going to be f'ing cold. Makes enough sense if this game is always the last weekend....no more climate controlled Dome for half the games.

Listen, this is dumb, but not totally unsurprising. I can see playing Ohio St., since we haven't played them since 2010. I can also see playing Michigan, because we have a trophy game with them, and years ago had a rivalry with them. But if you use either of those categories (frequency of play or affinity/rivalry) as your main scheduling criteria then we should only play one of those teams. That said, MN is about last on the priority list for the Big 10, so it's not surprising to see us get screwed.

That said, Minnesota is a winner in home field advantage for our series with Iowa. Because of quirks in how they flipped home & away and now flipped it back, we get an extra home game with Iowa. The paired years were 2009/2010, 2011/2012, etc. So if you look at that, the extra singleton year is 2013 when we play Iowa at home. Then we start a new set of paired years in 2014/2015. So we get an extra home game with Iowa! As others have pointed out - we play them at TCF 4 years out of 5. Here's the history:

Iowa series:
MN home: even years from 2050 to 2010, odd years from 2011 to 2013, even years from 2014 to ???

Are they still going to do paired years started in 2016? If so, that's fine I guess, but I thought they wanted to ensure each player could play every team in the conference over a 4 year span? With paired years, you'd only see 6 of 7 in 4 years. And how does parity-based play into it? If parity-based is dominant, you could end up never playing a team in the other half again.

so, now Jerry is not a moron for trying to get an easier NON CONF sched?
