According to two college football people familiar with the Big Ten, those talks have generated a new option, starting a Big Ten season of at least eight games the week of Thanksgiving. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

Warren and the B1G are looking more and more foolish each day.

It's a rumor.

For all we know it's "hey what about this".

That's not foolish, that's what you do when you come up with ideas and may be entirely false...

You also come up with new ideas when you make rush decisions to do things that don’t make sense.

^^^ exactly. That’s smart, in uncertain times.

Too bad GWG’s awful hyper partisan bias won’t allow him to consider that possibility.

Ha! Is Thanksgiving considered later this fall? Asking for a friend.

They’ve had 5 months. Waiting and seeing how other people handle things is exactly what poor leadership looks like. That’s not leadership at all.
Blah, blah, blah.

You’d push down a small child if it would help you try to frame the narrative in this fraudulent manner.

To me, seems like Thanksgiving week could make sense. Still about 3 months away. Also all students will be gone from campuses by then, so they definitely would have less issues with players being exposed during any in-person classes or social gatherings. It's probably as close to a "bubble" environment - at least as far as while they're on-campus - as colleges can get.

It would also make great sense from a TV perspective. There will likely be little to no competition from a college football perspective during those weeks. College hoops may or may not have started yet. MLB will be over. NBA will likely not have started the new season yet. NFL would likely be the only other major sport going on at that time.

The biggest mistake those in authority often make is assuming that changing their mind makes them look weak. So they go down with a ship needlessly, and often take others with them.

In fact, I think it would be a sign of strength to admit what looks like a miss on the league's part, and to listen to the people and players.

If can start thanksgiving why not go ahead and start the last week of october?

That way would be able to still play bowl games and OSU still could compete for a natty. To me the highlight of college football is the bowl games and the national playoffs. Would be great if the big10 could still be part of that.

Thanksgiving would be a good compromise.

Still gives time 8 weeks Sept (including fall camps) and Oct to see what goes wrong, while capturing a fair amount of audience and the important Tgiving football weekend.

And if starting in Tgiving gives enough time to start fall 2021 on time, all the better.

If a spring season is out, then they should probably reboot as soon as they can, IMO. Thanksgiving kind of late.

The relative success or failure of the schools starting in Sept, will be known by Oct.

Pretty smart, if you ask me! Big Ten looking smarter every day! And Warren doing an admirable job in impossible conditions!

To the point you have made several times about who decided what? when? where? etc.....I don't think we can formulate any true assessment of how Warren is performing his job. Optically, I think you would be in the minority, but in fact we have so few facts about anything relating to BIG sports right now.

Warren will either look like a genius or possibly lose his job over the decisions that have been made, whether they were his decisions or not.

Actually, yes, it is. In the North, Fall Meteorological Season ends Nov. 30; Astronomical Season ends with the Winter solstice on December 21.

I agree with this if its possible.

Waiting to see what goes wrong with the other three still has value in these uncertain times, IMO.

My read on this is the coaches and ADs, who already wanted to play in Sept, are trying to come up with a palatable alternative to take and lobby Warren and his bosses. It doesn’t mean much if the presidents aren’t on board -determined to find ways to make the plan workable, testing etc.

Lol you know he won’t lose his job. He only has ever done what the presidents told him to do.

It’s only internet warriors pissed off over the season and talking heads that need something to rile people up over, who actually accuse him of any wrongdoing or poor performance. Pretty much a fabrication, in my book.

Thanksgiving at least means students are off campus. That is a plus.

Late Oct has very little benefit over just starting in Sept as originally planned, IMO.

I just wonder if you can actually backup your opinion with any reasons? Or just sticking with that “let them play and whatever happens happens” line? That won’t fly with the presidents l, IMO.

Honestly, I hope he has a long and successful career as BIG commissioner. You also know that if for some reason this decision completely blows up, the presidents are going to want a scape goat, I hope it doesn't end up that way.
