Big Ten commissioner shoots down Nebraska’s hopes of playing outside conference this season

Wow the Nebraska SB Nation comments are behind them playing a schedule almost 100%. Interesting how different the fans are reacting from team to team

Since the Big 12 is planning on playing this fall I could see Nebraska filling in various bye weeks. Not sad to see this happening. But the most embarrassing thing was listening to Warren. What a fish out of water.

Nebraska has fine academics, regardless of its membership in some snobby club. Thats not really the issue here. They need to get in line or GTFO.
Well I won't consider the AAU a snobby club just because only the finest research institutions are allowed membership. Nebraska does not deserve B1G membership. This is a good time for them to voluntarily leave, unlike what they did when they were ousted from the AAU.

Hahahahaha

NDSU would kick their asses this year. And then the Big Ten could kick the dead weight to the curb. Win-Win!

Kick 'em out. Always taken a bit of pride in that Big 10 schools are also on the forefront of academic achievement, scientific progress and excellence. Of the 65 schools in the Association of American Universities (AAU), 13 are members of the Big 10 (SEC has all of 4 members - FL, Vandy, plus two recent additions - Missouri and Texas A&M). The only Big 10 school not to be a member - Nebraska. Kicked out of AAU in 2011. If applying for the first time, I wonder if they would be allowed into the Big Ten these days.
I believe they would not.

I am a faculty member at an AAU member institution and frankly, I'd never heard of it and could care less. If it makes some people feel superior about themselves, thats cool. Don't you think its ironic they were voted out AFTER they decided to leave the B12? 99% politics.

Check the mean ACT and SAT scores of incoming freshman at NE compared to the other schools in the BIG. They are at the bottom.

Who gives a shit? Those scores mean nothing. Remove all the international students from your favorite B1G institution and see what happens to your SAT.

I don't know anything about their academics, but I would agree that AAU is really sort of a side story that is 'required' (but obviously that's not retroactive) and I suspect if push comes to shove ... B1G athletics would not worry about AAU membership if they had a good candidate to take that wasn't in the AAU, and they'd get in.
Don't know about that. Syracuse was always rumored as a B1G candidate. Cuse withdrawals from the AAU...No B1G membership.

the Big ten would wet themselves to get Notre Dame as a full member and they aren’t a AAU member

Someone has to be at the bottom.

This does not follow. Are international students not real students? Why should their scores not "count"?

You are correct. Affectionately known back in the day of 10 actual members as the 11th Big Ten school.

Midwest kids don’t take the SAT unless they’re trying to get into fancy private schools (most locates our East).

Love it, and I couldn't agree with him more. If Nebraska doesn't like it then get the F out of the Big Ten and go play somewhere else. They need the Big Ten way more than the Big Ten needs a program that is nowhere near the powerhouse it once was even if in their minds they still think they belong among the top programs in College Football.

Nobody is happy about the decision to postpone the season but it is what the conference decided to do. If you don't like it then don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I guess we'll never know that as ND will never share their football revenue.

Living in Omaha, it was soooooo fun today listening to sports talk radio and how offended all the talking heads were over how NE is being perceived. They're taking it as a personal attack; it's great.

They have to put on their big boy pants and s#ck it up.

Quit whining and focus on developing the team to challenge for the Big Ten title. They've got quite a few four star recruits. Develop them properly and use them.

Teach them not to whine, moan, and complain. Scott Frost, do the job it takes to build an elite team.

they never at anytime said they wanted to leave the big ten or join another conference. They just want to play. The estimates I have seen is that not playing this fall would be as high as a 300 million dollar hit to the economy in Lincoln. The big ten won’t allow it fine, but I can’t get mad at any school that feels comfortable playing and doesn’t want to bankrupt their school and city.

What secret does Nebraska have to keep their player safe that the rest of the B1G doesn't

NO, they no longer qualified. It is ridiculous to think that the AAU would drop them if they moved to the B1G... Nebby was on the verge of losing membership ot the AAU for at least a decade.

Well, how much research do you conduct in your position? How many research articles do you publish each year?

Great. The battle of the no Mask Mandate! I guess we can throw Iowa into that mix.
Great and then Nebraska will have to join an FCS conference because the B1G would drop them like a hot potato!

UNL had better pull in the reins of their HC, etc or the B1G will just send them packing without any of the $57million in annual TV revenue...

Nebraska is not going anywhere. ND loves the ACC membership, their growing footprint in the south. Not thrilled with how Nebraska has gone about this but not in favor of throwing stones at their achievements as a program. Just the last 10 years does not reveal some level of elite for us. We are better academically but others are better than us.

I blame Kevin Warren more for not heading this off at the pass. The sitaution should have been known before the vote and after.... and been clear enough that Neb knows the situation.

B1G is usually really good about walking lock step together. Little game related shit talk between coaches sure ... but not about structure, rules, and if you're going to follow them or not, etc...
