Bielema wants Nebraska for end-of-year rival

Sportsfan= PantherHawk. Clearly. 18 posts. vintage Pantherhawk maneuver.

To reply to the non-troll posters there is no chance the Big Ten will end the battle for Floyd of Rosedale or Paul Bunyan´s Axe. That is a certainty. I am much more concerned with the fate of the Lil´ Brown Jug game. Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa are sure to be in the same division. I hope that division also includes Michigan, but there is a decent chance that it won´t.

What is the reference to Pantherhawk? For the record... It is not my alias since I just came to this board after reading the Iowa Rivals board and what a poster named Gopher Rube had to say.

I love sports discussion and have posted regularly on the ISU, PSU, the Okie State forums.

Peace!

So you are a troll?

Yeah...I got caught. In addition to the minimal posts, there was also the classic pantherhawk line "What is the reference to Pantherhawk?"

And no effort at recanting after posting that. Thanks for pointing that out Ali.

I'd rather us start Big Ten season against ya'll, taking the wind out of your sails before you even have any hope of winning a Big Ten Championship, just like last year at The ATM, and more than likely again this year at Camp Randall.

But given the choice, if we can't play NU in a Battle of The Big Reds, I'd rather play ya'll as a tune up to our bowl game (or Big Ten Championship Game @ Soldier Field, or wherever).

The only thing that comes close to Nebraska when it comes to the "Big Red" moniker is the Cincinnati Big Red Machine of the 1970's.

But I wouldn't expect a badger fan to know about anything that happened before 1992.... that stuff doesn't matter.

You two guys have some serious problems staying on the subject of the original poster, don't you?
Can't find the forum rules, but I'll bet constantly attacking other posters isn't proper etiquette and isn't something the site administrators like to see.
There should be another forum started for guys like you who want to constantly engage in this sort of behavior. What's your issue?
Look at the title of this specific forum... No reference to not wanting different opinions from fans of other teams. It's truly unfortunate that you choose to behave like this, but every fanbase has their share, I guess!

Well aren't you the cutest little hypocrite  And I say cutest because face it, there's nothing innocent about you... and there's the fact that I really like sarcasm. Telling people of OUR board to stay on the subject? Have proper etiquette? Engage in 'this sort of behavior' on another forum? Please.

So in all seriousness, I have no problem 'calling you names', because what I'm really doing is labeling you for what you really are.

I think it's extremely cowardly to come on others' boards and spew BS because you know you can pretty much get away unscathed. It's basically like having one person taunt a group of fifty, except your cowardly self gets to hide behind a computer :D But I've got an awesome solution! See we've all got what you call an Ignore List. I think I'm going to put you on there, and because I know you're either going to type something after that I won't see or stew because you can't express to me how I made your sensitive little self feel, I'm going to laugh. Hard.

Have a nice day :)

Final Weekend Now Could be Perfect in Big Ten...

I think we should go back to playing UW in the final game. I love both the Iowa and Wisconsin games, but UW is our true overall rival. We have very similar athletic programs, universities, and states. I think a complimentary tradition to start would be to pair the football game with a WCHA series vs. Bucky at the site of the home team in football. I know that we've decided to not have hockey play on the same night as a football game, but I predict those restrictions will eventually be rescinded. Those could make for some great weekends.

The real reason I see this being the way to go is that Iowa and Nebraska could develop a tremendous rivalry. Once again, two very similar schools in similar states. Pretty similar programs in terms of success over the past decade as well. This just makes too much sense.

In the current format, you could then have the following rivalry games all on the last weekend:

MN v. WI
NU v. IA
IL v. NW
IN v. PU
UM v. OSU
MSU v. PSU

I really like this 12-team conference, but if two more were added, then my preference would be Pitt and Notre Dame (I'm not big on expanding the footprint any more than it already is). Then you could just change the last rivalry games to:

MSU v. ND (some historic games played through the years)
Pitt v. PSU (many clamoring for a return to this rivalry)

In my mind, end of the year rivalries are critical. The thought of ending with some non-conference game is horrific. The Big Ten needs to get this right.

My, My... aren't we getting all sensitive after I called some of the frauds on this forum out. You may not like to acknowledge the facts involved with the college programs we're talking about, but they're still facts. Suddenly responding to Badger and Hawkeye bashing has become "BS", to use your terms. I was warned by other posters before I came to this site that Gopher fans, in general, were rather uneducated when it came to collegiate sports that weren't played on ice. And lo and behold, here we are.

Is every sports publication and media outlet that predicts the Gophers will underperform again this year wrong?? The fact that so many of you are still living in the 1950s and 1960s tells me that you don't accept reality very well. Absolutely no one cares today about how many National Championships Minnesota won back before the invention of the television. The recent(25 years or so) success of Gopher football reverts back to the days of cheatin Lou Holtz. Gutey, Wacker, Mason, and now Brewster must endure a mostly apathetic fanbase who choose to live in the days of the LONG GONE glory years. The Twin Cities are a pro sports town and the U is nothing more than the redheaded step-child.

SportsCenter knows it, Sports Illustrated knows it, hell, even Sid knows it. No amount of pimping will change that.
Some of you need to pressure the AD into a rivalry game with North Dakota State. But that may be difficult because NDSU doesn't want to hurt their SOS. No axe, no jug, no pig, no nothing. That's Minnesota football in a nutshell.

So reap that! That's the reality.

Sportsfan = *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#nozzle. That's you in a nutshell.

Keep it up. I'm quite sure that hogeye fans are very proud of you. You show yourself to be a horribly insecure and childish fool to be trolling. I would feel sorry for you, but I'm all out of sympathy for jack-holes like you. I reserve sympathy for people who deserve it.

You are a loser, and you keep confirming that every time you post.

So reap that. That IS reality.

He would go away if you idiots stopped responding to his posts....

No...he'll just come up with some other user name.

Just like he's reading this right now, I want him to know he is not welcome if all he is here to do is spill venom.

So...Sportsfan, I want you to know that I think you are a total loser...you're like the guy that just won't leave a party, even though every one there knows you're a loser and all the women find you revolting. And you make your team look like a bunch of a-holes too.

The 6th and 7th words of your quote pretty much sums up the posters who gave up on using logic and facts to carry on this discussion. I always knew that ISU fans were insecure, but this topic has exposed some Gopher fans. In fact, you make Cyclone fans look intelligent.

I realize it's pretty tough being a U fan these days, but you've taken "Illogical" to a new level. Wisky and Iowa own you in football and be grateful that the Big 10 now has an even number of teams because the Gophers would be a candidate for removal based on fan support and your history of scandal over the years. You are a pimple on the NCAA's posterior.

Good luck against MTSU in the opener. Reading their internet board... sounds like they've already chalked that game up in the win column.

For that matter, so have eleven other teams!!!

Actually... I'm having a blast. And if this was a slow-pitch softball game, I'd have already won by the "mercy rule". This one's more lopsided than the last time the Hawks visited the dome.

What do you hope to accomplish here? Iowa football fans have all their 'sports' eggs in one basket and that is Hawkeye football. There's really no arguing that the Iowa football program is much healthier than Minnesota at this point, allowing Iowa fans like this guy to show their true class. The fact of the matter is that the overall Minnesota athletic department is one of the 5-10 most highly regarded in the NCAA. Things turning into a conversation of Iowa FB vs. Gopher FB is a battle Sportsfan can win ... debating the merits of the Iowa athletic dept in general vs. the 'U' is not.

When the tables turn (and in sports, as in life, it's inevitable), and Minnesota football finds itself in a healthier state than the Hawks, rest assured that Minnesota fans won't really care how Iowa fans feel about our program. This sort of poster could not more illustrate what it means to be an Iowa football fan: classless and flippant.

Take a look at the direction that Minnesota sports are trending and you wouldn't make that statement. MBB and Hockey are headed south, football has floundered, wrestling is good but your coach is old... so the future is iffy, at best. Baseball got hot at the end, but only an average program these days.

Football carries the load and once the newness of the stadium wears off, you'll see a half-empty stadium with no students there. Hard to be optimistic about that if I'm a Gopher fan. Don't compare yourself to the Hawks. We have stability, you don't.

What load is it that Gopher football carries? Your arguments have no traction. Minnesota programs have won almost twice as many Big Ten Championships in the last decade as Iowa programs have. Per my last post, a Minnesota-Iowa football debate is one an Iowa fan can win. A holistic examination of the two athletic departments favors Iowa in almost no aspect.

Has Iowa ever finished ahead of Minnesota in the Director's Cup standings? You rip on Minnesota basketball, hockey and wrestling. Our basketball team played in the NCAA tournament, our hockey program is the most historically storied than any other, the wrestling program in annually among the top ten in the country, and our baseball program is guided by one of the most respected coaches in all of collegiate baseball and just won another Big Ten Championship.

If these programs are the weaknesses of our department, I guess you win Sportfan! You logic has defeated us! Please comment exorbitantly and often on our boards so we can profit from your wisdom! As misguided and sad fans of college athletics, praise the NCAA Gods that we have an Iowa fan to remind us how terrible and misguided we are.

Just because I enjoy stuffing it in your face and I'm not a decent enough sports fan to let profane idiocy roll off my, I'll provide some abbreviated standings in the 2009-2010 Directors Cup Standings for your perusal. (This is per the June 3 release)

2. Ohio State
8. Penn State
10. Minnesota
15. Wisconsin
21. Michigan
29. Michigan State
*31. Iowa State (Know you Hawk fans love that one)
36. Illinois
40. Indiana
46. Purdue
47. Northwestern
55. Iowa

That's right. In a year when Sportfan thumps his chest on our board, his beloved school is dead flippin' last in the Big Ten. Dead last.

MBB is headed south? What is Dan Monson coming back to be our coach?
Football has floundered? We were 6-6 last year but you say all 11 of our opponents will beat us. I don't like to name call especially people who live in the sorry state of Iowa but you really don't know anything.

Perfect example of how perceptions can be so far off from reality. Sportfan's biased assessment of the two programs are in another (delusional) universe from the hard and unbiased facts presented above.

Wow!!! If only all this passion was somehow transformed into actual support for the old U! Let's review for those that are puffing their chest and let's look a bit at some of the behind the scenes happenings. 1.Hockey program... by most accounts, the last 3-4 years have been disappointing and nothing suggests a return to glory. Fans living on past laurels. 2. MBB... player defections and suspensions. General belief that at the expense of getting better players on campus has resulted in the admission of individuals with character and academic issues. Not the first program to lower standards at the attempt to elevate results. 3- Wrestling... an unusually large number of academic casualties and top ranked recruits leaving campus in the last few years shows that coaches are failing the student athletes, or at the very least, not monitoring progress closely enough. Then to top it off... allegations of real estate dealings that may be legal, but somewhat unethical. A bitter old coach that was run out of the Hawkeye program. 4. Football. The anchor of all Division 1 athletic programs... where a 6-6 year is reason to celebrate(at least at Minnesota). Where in rivalry games against Wisconsin and Iowa, it's hard to tell which team has more fans in the stands. Where the head coach typically loses the top in-state talent to other programs. Where the juco number rivals that of Kansas State of the Big 12. Where the assistant coaching staff has more turnover than the local Burger King. Where the local fans sell their tickets to fund their meth habits. Where your team leads the conference in penalties every season because they play undisciplined football. Where finishing ahead of Indiana and Illinois is considered a great accomplishment.

Pride yourselves in the fact that You have made the highlight reels of SportsCenter and The BTN with some of the most memorable games in college football history. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory with last minute muffed punts, blown 4th quarter leads too numerous to mention, having the goalposts removed by opposing fans, and having an empty trophy case in rivalry games. In a word... "FUTILITY".

It's like watching a trainwreck. You just feel sorry for local boys because you know it will turn out badly. Take solace in the fact that college fans always like watching how the Gophers can find new ways to lose a game. Advertisers love Gopher games.

But hey... show that 1950 National Championship trophy to recruits. I'm sure they're impressed.

Lastly... I don't give a rip if you hate Hawkeye fans, or Badger fans for that matter. Hating us means we are beating you. And in the coming years, you're going to be hating us a lot more.

Bigass lol.

Gee, thanks for sharing your little wet dream with all of us.

Now go take a bath, porky.

And for those that care... go back to page 1 of this thread and read the posts of "Unregistered User", "GoldInDirt", and "#2Gopher" and you'll see why this topic denigrated into a hatefest.
Some people can't resist the temptation to bash Hawkeye and Badger fans. It doesn't matter what schools' forum we are at. Being the hometown fans doesn't earn you that right. So I've done the same. And I gotta admit, it was kind of fun. But it sure was easy because I had a lot of material to work with.

Actually, I'm just trying to up my post count because, according to Unregistered User, you don't have any street cred if you have less than 18 posts.

you say we live in the past? those director cup standings came out 13 days ago....by that logic, alabama couldn't even brag about their national championship in football anymore.

You never addressed your opinion on why the hawks are so low on the directors cup. Face it, your athletic department, outside football, is equal to that of northern iowa...except that they are slightly better cause they would smoke your asses in basketball
