Kansas State brought back Snyder and it's working. Bringing back the one coach who could win at Minnesota would make the most sense. He knows the players, would have a new admin that would support him, new stadium. With anyone else, we are looking at 4-5 years of being in the tank. I predicted what would happen to Brew when he was hired. Mason would be the best solution out there.

Snyder

Snyder was never fired. "It's working"?? Did you watch their game against Nebraska? Mason knows none of these players, and he's now over 60 yrs. old. Sorry, but no. MN can do much better than trying to resurrect Mason's coaching career.

I mean really?? So you were happy with the mediocrity of the Mason years? Yeah he could win a trophy game once in a while but we suffered some of the worst losses in Gopher history under his watch, he never had a good defense. If Wisconsin and Iowa can be top teams, we can too with the right hire, and its NOT Mason.

Glen, don't you have a studio appearance to prepare for?

And you thought you could throw us off by purposely misspelling your first name? Hah, we're smarter than that. Go put on those Crest whitening strips and get ready for doing some in-depth analysis.

I'm in total agreement.

In 3 plus years, Brew has managed to blow a 21 point lead just once. Boring. Mase could do it in his sleep.

Brew has only managed to get humiliated once on the road against Iowa and Wisconsin. Mase managed to accomplish that seven years in a row. Now that's excitement.

Now I'm going to conclude by misspelling "Glenn's" name to throw you off the trail.

One aside on Former Coach Mason

At least in September I heard on Barrero's show that former Coach Mason had not even entered TCF yet. He admitted having very mixed emotions about it...some very negative.

Maybe this has changed, but that's not something that would bode well attitudinally in my mind in a future hiring decision.

Go Gophers! Beat the Boilers!

This is a really good idea...

So "Glenn" might turn us down when we offer the job on Monday. I'm giving up my tickets.

I don't support this plan.

However, what kind of money would it take to convince Glen Mason to come back? I don't think he'd do it for less than $1.5 million/season.

Pride is a dangerous thing.

If I'm Mason, watching the fan base clamor against his replacement is worth more than the U could ever possibly pay him to come lead us back to sporadic 8 win seasons.

The last two posts I've seen from you.. And I gotta say, maybe you should just mail in your support for the Gophs right now.

Mason? Seriously?

Its no wonder fans across the nation think Minnesota fans don't know a thing about football, what with posts like this.. =/

I feel like a groundhog that woke up and didn't see his shadow after reading that post. Better go back to bed for my own safety.

The one coach that could win here? Nonsense. There are plenty of coaches who could win here, there names are just not Tim Brewster.

Worst post of the year candidate.

We have had others win as much as Mason

I've held off the past 3+ years in responding to this crap. Just have to say something now, just because.

The Mason folks that keep saying he was the only one that could win here are living in their own world. Our own history speaks to that. I loved watching Mason's offense, hated his defense. His only good defense, that led to one of his two best seasons, was led by Wacker recruits.

Just because he went to a bunch of bowls means nothing. Cal Stoll had a much better Big Ten record than Mason, and would have had a better overall record had he played the kind of non-conference schedule Mason did. He finished third twice, Mason never did.

John Gutekunst won as much as Mason did. He had the same number of five win seasons (2) and four win seasons as Mason (2), but did it in six years instead of ten. He just didn't go to as many bowls because the standard wasn't simply six wins.

So, let's bring back none of them, although if we had to I'd ask to bring Stoll back from the grave first.

We haven't had 50 years of terrible football. It's been mostly mediocre, some terrible, and a few good. We need the excellent year to get us over the hump. Stoll, Gutekunst, and Mason all had good years, none excellent.

Why not bring back John Gutekunst while we are at it? He's at least still coaching, he wouldn't have to shake off the rust.

Well Brew would need to have a 21 point lead more than once to blow it.

Why can't any admit that firing Mason was a mistake? The list of failed coaches is amazing, and when we get one who can win, he get's canned. The same people who are clammering against Mason (and you are one of them) were estatic with Brewster and drank his koolaid. Now you jump on the bandwagon to dump him! I"m amazed.

Because it wasn't a mistake. You are engaging on the logical fallacy of the false dichotomy. Just because hiring Brewster was a mistake doesn't mean that firing Mason was a mistake. The Gophers were in decline when Mason was fired. You have the biggest collapse in bowl game history, and you get fired. Such an epic collapse may be decades away from happening again.

Mason's record was puffed up by creampuff schedules. In his 10 years here Mason only twice had a winning Big Ten record. Gutekunst also managed to get two winning Big Ten records.

Get over the Mason firing already.

I WANTED Mason's contract extended and Mason's firing wasn't a mistake. Anybody who remembers Glen's behavior that season and who's lips weren't firmly planted on Glen's ass knows that. Brewster's lack of success doesn't change that it only makes his hiring a mistake.

We didn't drink the Brewster Kool-aid. We gave Brewster a chance. We gave Mason a chance. If Mason is so great, then why did no school hire him after he was fired here?

Is this Glen writing this himself? From the Big Ten Network studio?

Face the facts..
1. We will lose this years recruiting class
2. Next years class will be average at best
3. It will take 5-6 years just to hopefully rebuild to Glen Mason's average season
4. Another two to get to his dominate seasons.
Getting rid of Mason has really paid off! You Brewster guys got what you wanted, another decade of futility.

So glad to see a bona fide soothsayer on the board.
