Berkly Edwards wins Michigan 100 m & 200 m

There is no doubt he'll be our fastest back. And he has a chip on his soldier. I'm excited to see how that goes. And usually when I'm excited, that means redshirt...

That's moving! He could be the lightning that goes along with the thunder provided by Kirkwood and Williams.

Is that faster then Devin Crawford tufts? and what is his weight right now?

Your contributions to the site are invaluable. Keep up the good work.

I'm sorry he's not a Hawkeye, I really am. I hear he values his ACL's and clean police record too much.

Yeah, but was that hand-timed or electr . . . .

;-)

He also wasn't fast enough to run from the bank that's holding his defaulted $226K loan. Apparently, Mr. Iowamorality never made a payment on time and then stopped paying altogether.

Back to Berkley Edwards, it will be tough to keep him on the bench unless he's a total bust as a blocker.

Completely agree, as long as he picks up the schemes he should see the field this fall.

We have waited a long time for what Edwards could be. We are due. I am excited!

BTW, Dwight owns iPOWER, a California solar energy company. That Hawkeye is DOOMED!!! Forget about him.

You're comparing the times of someone who was nearly 24 years old at the time and had already played one year in the NFL to someone who just went to their High School prom.

Berkley did well but lets put it into context, he won the Division 2 Championship and was 3rd overall in the state, the top time was 10.40 to Edwards 10.58. He definitely has elite speed but he's not the fastest kid in Michigan.

This kid is going to be a stud....no redshirting.....we need his speed in the backfield with the power of Kirkwood and Williams. This could be a beautiful thing!

I could only see Edwards redshirting if a guy like Cole Banham steps up as our home-run speed back. Edwards would benefit from taking a year to learn the system, get in the weight room, and develop his blocking skills.

Banham looked really solid\fast this spring...but...I bet Edwards still won't redshirt. I'm sure at some point Michigan will be kicking themselves in the @ss for not offering him.

If he can be as good as Dwight was at the college level, I'll take it. I wondered if there were different classes of competition, but who cares if he's fastest or third fastest in all of Michigan. It doesn't change the fact that he's fast.

If Banham is playing were in trouble. He's a special teamer at best.

If you go to http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Division/Event.aspx?DivID=43258&Gender=M&Event=1

you will find Berkley's time is tied for 19th in the country. What I found interesting is you look some of these fast guys up in rivals, you find some of them such as Malik Robertson and Kenzo Cotton who have no stars, but offers from BCS schools. Kind of shows that speed alone will get you a look!

Speed + No Stars = Harold Howell

19th in the country is excellent. It will be interesting to see how Kill & Co develop him. Personally, I see a red-shirt and be a big time difference maker on 2014.

RE: DCT.....Some of the track guys may know better, but if I remember correctly, DCT posted a time that would have made him the 3rd fastest player of all D-I recruits in that recruiting class (or it may have been all of college football). 1st was Jeff Demps at Florida & 2nd I wouldn't know. I may be wrong & would be glad to be corrected, but that's what I remember.

RE: Tim Dwight. You think you're bragging about a former Hawkeye player when you're doing the exact opposite. If Edwards is close in comparison to Tim Dwight in terms of speed (and I'll even say in impact), I'm fired up as a Gopher fan!

50poundhead, sorry, but is your head lead??? 2A should tell you more than one class.

Well, I think it's safe to say that we're in trouble in the areas of speedy skill players, so that part of your post is valid. It's why Edwards will likely not redshirt (another sign of an issue, not RSing a true FR).

However, I think you might be sleeping on Banham a little bit. He played REALLY well in the bowl game, one of our better games of the year. He has played pretty well at spring games throughout his time here and I believe he's won Scout Team player of the year twice in a row.

Don't get wrong, I agree, if Banham is getting 15 touches a game, we are in some trouble. He's undersized and not incredibly elusive. However, Banham can help us in certain packages. He outplayed KJ Maye at the end of the year last year to take his spot in the bowl game. He's also part of the reason that Marcus Jones became a DB. We have some depth at that slotback sort of role. Last year, by the bowl game, he jumped Marcus Jones, KJ Maye and Malcolm Moulton on the depth chart.

He's not more talented than Berkely Edwards, but he does enough things well that he's a tough veteran to keep off the field. I think you'll see Cole Banham play quite a bit this year.

Exactly. Tim Dwight was a great football player. If Edwards is as good as Tim Dwight, he'll be one of the better Gophers of all time. He was a two-time All American. Maybe MPLSHAWK is higher on Edwards than Gopher fans.

MPLSHAWK seems like good guy and I appreciate the TD numbers for doing comparison.

Howell was a 2 star. Howell was only a freshmen when he finished 5th in the B1G in return yards, but his fumbles and lack of academics opened the door for Troy Stoudermire as a returner. Howell should have never been billed as more than a returner.

His return skills were pretty impressive in high school:
