BARN BLACKOUT JAN 6TH vs OSU

I'm excited for this. It'll be fun. I hope it's a success. They started correctly by announcing very early but now they need to send emails and even make phone calls to every ticket holder. Maybe even advertisements to make it successful.

Either that or give everyone a 7 dollar t-shirt. They can take it out of the scholarship fund :)

We old curmudgeons don't bitch about anything except the young curmudgeons bitching about everything.

GET OVER IT, PUPS!!!

Difference between a black out and a gold out - not everyone has a gold shirt to wear, everyone has black. I think it's a great idea and has the chance to make an environment recruits will remember.

I just bought three gold shirts (along with some other Gophers gear) because I didn't have any. With that said.....Sports Authority has 20% everything on the website. Free shipping with no minimum purchase as well.

Teams do color outs often. It really looks good when the entire stadium is in the same color. It adds to the environment in the stadium.

I loved our white jerseys in the past. I also think we will always look 100x better in black then the ****ing hawkeyes.

People bringing up white jerseys is a total non-sequitur. The NCAA mandates the use of white jerseys for basketball and football.

You are absolutely correct, and they do them with school colors, not the school color of one of their heated rivals. Perhaps someone can remind us of another situation where a school has held a color out using a rival schools colors. I'm drawing a blank.

Still amazed by the push back against this. The reason this won't work isn't because the school chose to go with a color other than gold or maroon to pair with some novelty uniforms, but rather because this fan base is especially stubborn. The same people refusing to participate will be the same people saying 'I told you so' after the game if the crowd isn't amped. Great job supporting the team fans!

Black and white are neutral colors. I don't get why everyone is freaking out about this. It's going to be really cool if everyone participates

It would also be really cool if we had a gold out or maroon out and everyone participated. I have participated every time, but many don't so why do we think it would work with black (one of Iowa's primary colors)?

I think it should be a 'black and red' OUT.

I have a slightly used red jacket with black leather sleeves. Though it seems to have shrunk some over the years.

That jacket ain't the only thing that's shrunk over the years!!!

Just participate if you are at the game. I'm 100% positive a black out would look better than an attempted and failed black out

This will be a failed attempt regardless. We can't even organize a gold out properly.

I think the point that many loyal Gopher fans are making is that if we support a stupid idea, they will do it again. Perhaps the next time it will be a red out, a pink out or a purple out.

More a question of curiosity, but are the curmudgeons who are so opposed to this idea the same curmudgeons visible on televised games, that stay seated the whole game with their arms crossed, never cheering?

+1

You know why it sucks to be a Gopher fan? Because of the constant cynicism, and constant nagging, and constant belittling of the very school you supposedly cheer for. If OSU did this, people would get behind it, if Wisconsin did this, people would get behind it. I get that the University isn't providing T-Shirts, but you all can at least do your part and wear black.... but oh wait, it's way more fun to say that something sucks and that you won't participate because of your ridiculous stubbornness.... I'm sure that you naysayers will be having a great time at the game regardless........ geeeeeeeez get over yourselves....

The people complaining about this probably won't even attend the game. They'll be too busy yelling at kids skateboarding on the sidewalks outside their homes.

Interesting question. Why is someone a curmudgeon for disagreeing with a bad idea. I am at every game cheering for the Gophers. Based on your question, it is obvious you are watching the games on TV. Perhaps you should buy a ticket before you criticize others for an opinion?

There has yet to be a good reason provided as to why this is a bad idea. Other than "black is an Iowa color," there hasn't been much said.

Oh no, I do watch lots of the games on TV! You really burned me there. I've been to many Gopher games, and have seen the same thing in person as what I see on TV. And tell you what, donate some funds to my cause for the 11 hour car drive and for the tickets so I can attend. I dare say my residency salary isn't enough for either.

I've lurked on this site for a decent amount of time now. I finally decided to register just recently without the thought of ever posting anything.

That is until I read this thread and this post specifically. The amount of complaining about this tiniest of temporary changes is absurd! I say "hey, why not?". Recruits love it, so I love it. Black is a neutral color, it goes with just about every other color really well (including maroon and gold). The team got new alternate uni's this year and they want to show them off, and rightfully so, they look great. Maybe try to stop sulking over it and embrace the new direction the team (and program in general) is heading for a change.

Agree. Its amazing how we Gopher fans can find something to complain about no matter what! My god, I have several Gopher items that have black in the color scheme. If you bought your Gopher gear anywhere besides target/walmart, you'd know that Black has been used in tee shirts, hats, etc for some time. Its always a big seller for the younger crowd..... and as of the Ohio State game, it will be one of our uniform colors. GET OVER IT people. Embrace a new idea once in a while.. my god, the complaining is driving me nuts.

Some sports teams have worn pink for cancer awareness. It's not their team colors, simply done to show unity. Can't believe people are bicheon about about wearing black. I hope the guy in the green man suite shows up - and is in a sea of black.
