Band Travel?

They had to fundraise to get to a Nebraska game some years back. I wish there was a way to get funding from athletics to the music school to pay for that sort of thing, because they should be at the UCLA game given what it means to us fans.

This will be seen negatively, but it's an honest question. Does playing against UCLA in a regular season game really mean that much to other fans? It's not a real Rose Bowl game so I don't understand why it would mean more. What am I missing?

It’s a consolation prize for those of us that have waited decades for the Gophers to play in the Rose Bowl again. It’s not the same as the New Year’s Day bowl game, but we’re making the best of it.

Everybody gets a trophy...just sign up. You don't even have to go, watch or play...everybody gets a trophy. YAY! Go Gophers!

And ya, it is absurd to me the athletic department ignores the marching band.

With college sports turning into pro sports, will there be a day we get rid of the marching band altogether?

It's still the Rose Bowl stadium, and they certainly can accommodate, having more than enough open seats. Would make it that much more enjoyable for fans traveling to the game like me.

Sure but Viking fans don't talk about playing in Arizona the same year they host a super bowl. It's just kind of weird to me without the pageantry around the game and the meaning behind it, but everyone can be a fan for their own reasons.

I don't see this as even close to a similar analogy.

Thanks for letting fans be fans. Appreciate it.

Rose Bowl, State Farm Stadium.....all the same.

You won't convince me playing at a stadium that is only important because of a singular event the Gophers aren't playing in is special. Excited for you tho Milos!

It's literally the exact same thing. You're watching a game in a stadium that is only famous for the bowl game you aren't playing in. Their own fans let you know how great it is.Fc49nZFWAAAY-6K.jpg

How many times have the Vikings, since their inception, played in Seattle, San Francisco, Miami, etc. or any other team’s stadium that are not in their division?

In those same years, how many times have the Gophers played at the Rose Bowl in any capacity?

How many times have you been a condescending prick in this thread?

Maybe people want to enjoy a unique experience.

I agree. I’ve been to the Rose Bowl when I was on a vacation to the LA area. Didn’t see a game there but did see the stadium. I think fans are going to be underwhelmed. The Rose Bowl doesn’t have the magic or pageantry when it isn’t January 1. Read an article last fall that it actually has one of the worst game day atmospheres in college football.

It's one thing to be a condescending prick in one thread. It's another to be an absolute moron in all of them. We don't enjoy it and it's not a unique experience.

I do believe you'll be in the minority.

The Golden Gophers will be playing. It won't be empty. There will be a game.

Of course, it isn't the January 1st game, but for many, it will be fun seeing them on the field there.

The Indiana fans who were there two weeks ago loved it. I talked to one of them who was there and he said he had tears in his eyes when entering the stadium. I think there will Gopher fans who have an emotional reaction to being there. I'm not sure how it won't be fun. Thousands will be there for sure.

Iowa fans will be there in the thousands in November.

Ironically, UCLA doesn't host any "traditional" old school Big Ten teams next year, but in 2026, there will no doubt be thousands of Purdue, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan State fans that go to their team's game there and enjoy the experience likely more than "normal."

It's a fun location for a road trip.

Nice weather, historic stadium. Not sure I'd do it more than one trip but may as well.

I could be wrong and I am sure that the fans that go will have a great time. The stadium itself is not very nice but obviously holds a mystique. I’m expecting the stadium to be 1/3 to 1/2 full for the game.

The picture you posted is over two years old.

Here is one from the Indiana game two weeks ago. Looks just awful. I may cancel my Gopher tickets for the game there. Not sure how anyone could consider a game there special. Looks just like West Lafayette or East Lansing.

Anyone know if the band will travel for any road games this year? Hoping to see them at the Rose Bowl.
Student here. I have some friends in the marching band and can confirm that they will not be in attendance unfortunately. I am also going to the game and would love to see them there. Nothing gets me fired up more than the hearing the pregame show at home or the rouser at an away game. There might be a traveling alumni band making their way to cali though. If all else fails, we can a cappella the rouser.

Most college football stadiums aren't ...
Yeah, there's literally nothing special about Happy Valley other than it's large. Lacking any real decent amenities. Parking is ridiculously sprawling. The whiteout was fun and cool, but I would take watching the seven home games at the Bank over that place every time.

It's all tongue-in-cheek. I wouldn't let it bother me. I hope everyone going has a great time.
As for me, I won't make it but I'm going to pretend Oct. 11th is New Year's Eve and I will party until 12:01 am, wake up in the morning with a hangover, shovel some imaginary snow, and then settle in for the game with a blanket and stack of leftover Christmas cookies.
