Teams typically have film review and a light practice the day after the game. So that would've been Saturday for them, where I assume he would've taken the daily saliva test.

They would've gotten back to Madison very early in the morning Saturday. So let's just assume it wasn't a party or celebration gathering that night, with film/practice let's say in the late morning or early afternoon.

Perhaps he somehow/somewhere contracted it in the process of travel to or from the game. Airports? Hotel? Food service staff?

QBs and kickers usually go to the stadium early, in a separate van from the rest of the team. Van driver?

The guy is a turd, on Twitter. His editors let him say whatever he wants, and neither they nor he give a s__t if he turns out to be wrong. He was dead wrong in a claim he made back in the summer about when it would be announced that the Big Ten was restarting football. When he was called out on it, he basically said "F off, I don't care, I won't admit I was wrong".

So you shouldn't necessary believe him. He might just be trying to get in a Tweet first, in case it turns out to be true, so he can point back to it later and say "see, I was first to announce it!" And if it doesn't happen, he'll pretend like it doesn't matter and doesn't affect his credibility at all.
 

If the Badgers go the 7% route, aren't they cancelling multiple games?

If a player has been exposed to a COVID infected person they are out 14 days.
If they have COVID, they are out 21 days.
Since this all happened after Saturday, the 14 days would carry through their next two matchups and the 21 days would carry through their next three. The 7% rule would invoke a complete shutdown of all team activities. I'm sorry, but I don't recall for how long.

No Way, Wisconsin wants this to happen. It basically wipes out the middle of their schedule. They can't win the West with a 1-0 record. If that were so, The Gophers are the B1G Basketball Tournament Co-Champions!

They'd be better off running out a RB at QB against Nebby than to try and make the 7% mark just to save one game.

I haven't read much of the threads but so we had to play with multiple players out because of covid, but Wisconsin gets to postpone their game? Why wasn't our game with Michigan postponed? So are they giving more benefit to teams who do mass infections rather than doing better containment?

See SON's post with the rules. Madison is in Orange/Red now, apparently. I would suspect we're in Green/Green or Green/Orange. They had the choice based on their status, and chose to err on the side of caution instead of letting it slip to Red/Red. We did not have that choice.
 

They aren't postponing. The game will not be played.
Nebraska tried to make it up with a non-conference game against UT-Chattanooga, and the Big Ten said no.
 


I just saw on the ESPN bottom line that they are up to 22 players/coaches/etc out. They are discussing whether they need to cancel their game next week against Purdue.

How is this not more than 7%? How do they have a choice? I thought it was an auto 3 week shutdown according to the rules?
 


The 7% rule, i.e. red, says a team must shutdown practice for 7 days and reassess. So WI must of shut practice down for 7 days.

Yes, and they did do that last week, and cancelled the game. They'll reassess this week.

Yes. Sounds like Alverez announced it Saturday morning. So they probably knew at least a day or two earlier.
 


Decision on the Purdue game is supposed to come today. Will be interesting to see if they are able to play. If the 22 reported cases is correct seems hard to believe they will be able to play this one.

Yeah especially since it seems the first positive tests were on a Sunday. Seems like it puts most guys out until at least nov 15

This seems especially likely because they seem to have a growing number of cases still

Sure they will wait the full week before making the call again but yeah, would seem very likely that their game next week is going to get cancelled as well. And if the case count keeps going up who knows when they will be able to play again.

As much as I hate all things Wisconsin, it is unfortunate to see games getting cancelled.
 

Expected this. Two games skipped without their star QB. Now it gets interesting.
 

They have 15 student athletes who have tested positive since Oct 24th.
Since Oct 27th, 10 student athletes.
Five positives since Halloween.

I wish we would’ve gotten things together as a country

Pretty sad state of affairs that when people are sick with symptoms they can’t get a test that day

at least these kids are tested and isolated. Same can’t be said for k-12 schools and the general population

Yeah, five more positives and 21 in the past seven days does not help. Most likely three weeks with no practices.

Team activities are paused indefinitely as the team battles the virus.

“We started with a few positives earlier in the week. I felt very confident if we continued that we had things, we were getting things under control,” UW athletic director Barry Alvarez said on a Zoom call with reporters. “But in the last three days, if I count them right, 11 positives in the program. Just didn’t feel as though we had our arms around it, had things controlled as I thought we needed. Again, keeping your priorities in order, the health and safety of our student-athletes and staff is top priority.”

The game against Purdue will be considered a no-contest, as was the Nebraska game, and will not count against either team’s record. Alvarez said the team is not yet at the seven-day positivity rate levels that Big Ten protocol would require a game cancellation.


If things keep going worse, then so be it .... but I firmly believe that they'll figure out a way to justify that players "feel strongly enough about playing" and that the protocol isn't forcing them to cancel, therefore they will play the Michigan game.

I'm going with that, until it doesn't happen.
 

The situation at UW is bad. Some players are staying in Covid hotel in an attempt to not infect roommates etc. If they get more cases this week it could be over.

Last week, the entire team was isolated in a hotel since they shut things down.

No idea if they're still there or what the deal is since yesterday or Tues.
