A desperate head coach trying to save face. Why now? They are not relevant.
Fillers and botox can't save that face.A desperate head coach trying to save face.
Probably more fun than coaching for such a hated fb teamLongo can go drinking with Del Rio now.
I was just thinking about this today...I would love it if PJ and the Gophers would take a shot on a 'proven' OC. Now Longo might not be the guy...but we have had MAC-level OCs for the entirety of PJ's tenure. Oh how I would love to see us take a shot on a proven OC. Ciarocca may or may not be the exception. He was great in the MAC but in his Big Ten stops (MN, Penn State, and Rutgers) he has been good (great?), not-so-good, and average. In PJs tenure we have hired or promoted Ciarocco, Harbaugh, Simon, and Sanford (I am missing at least one other), none of which was a proven and adequate OC. I have watched the badGers this year and their offense sucks! I attribute most of that to losing their starting QB (Van Dyke) very early in the season. They had clearly planned to make him the center-point if their offense and they struggled mightily when he was removed from the equation. I don't know if Fickell is the answer in Madison (and I hope he is not) and it appears Longo is/was not the answer at OC, but at least Becky took a shot! When, if ever, will we do the same?
Same as they have for the last 2 years. You need a qb for the longo system and they haven’t had oneCould this be a signal that they'll move away from the beloved, vaunted Air Raid?
I watched the Oregon - Wisconsin tilt. To me, it looked like the Badgers moved the ball best when they simply 'pounded the rock', Alvarez-style, with a power running attack. That approach seemed to have Oregon back on their heels a bit. In contrast, when Wisconsin tried to become all 'modern' and 'innovative' and 'cutting-edge', they stumbled badly.
A pass-heavy offense requires a good QB. Van Dyke's injury earlier in the season had to hurt.

How easy (or difficult) is it to acquire a good QB at Wisconsin?
Maybe Wisconsin — like Iowa, like Minnesota, like Nebraska — shouldn't put all of their offensive chips on the hope that they'll perennially be able to get a good QB.
I mean, when I think of top-notch Wisconsin QBs I think of... well...

Russell Wilson ( a one-year transfer).
A helmet school hired Ciarrocca away from Fleck. What they've done on offense since the Mich games is good improvement.I was just thinking about this today...I would love it if PJ and the Gophers would take a shot on a 'proven' OC. Every few years there’s a new QB maker genius guy …. It never lasts long.Isn’t this guy Drake Mayes old OC? Was he not supposed to be Gods gift to bad qb’s?
FIFYIm sorry but Wisconsin fired their OC because they are a 'delusional' CFB program. Period.
It’s very similar to Nebraska installing the west coast offense, in my opinion.I wish I had a guarantee that our own flawed football squad will beat Wisconsin on Black Friday. Because the struggles of their team would be a lot of fun to witness and poke at as it continues to seem to slide into the abyss.
Move distinctly away from a system that was called the perfect fit for their program and its location, and had proven effective for 25 years? Who could have seen this apparent destiny with mediocrity coming?
I have no idea if the Gophers will beat them this year. I just know that unlike many years when I was disappointed Wisconsin had improved their program, a loss to them now will result in disappointment in my own favorite team to not take care of business against a rival program in decline.
I am pretty sure they fired him because they suckIm sorry but Wisconsin fired their OC because they are a serious CFB program. Period.
Wisconsin has had a number of QBs get a minute in the nfl since the Alvarez eraHow easy (or difficult) is it to acquire a good QB at Wisconsin?

Yeah, that’s because Braedyn Locke isn’t good enough to run Oregon’s scout team. He’s 5’10”, has a noodle arm, is slow, and lacks any moxie. He’s a bright kid but shouldn’t be playing D1 football. Why not put in the backup? It’s a true freshman. How would Minny look if Brosmer was out for the season in week 3?Could this be a signal that they'll move away from the beloved, vaunted Air Raid?

Similar to Fleck firing Smith mid-season a few years ago.I am pretty sure they fired him because they suck
Yup.Similar to Fleck firing Smith mid-season a few years ago.
