there's a lot more to this story wonder if it will come out

Fitting in what way?

His waffling was sure fun. Must be a Wisconsin thing? I don't blame him though. I wouldn't want to lose my top 4 streak either, better to just give up mid season.

he feared barry wouldn't give the greg g the job, so bo left his players out to dry so his buddy would get some hc experience.

when the going gets tough, bo retires

Arrivederci, Grinch. I greatly disliked you as an opponent, but respected the hell out of you as a coach. Now, please let the Badgers return to the malaise days of Bill Cofield for a generation or two.

Is this the backlash to shunning Henry Ellenson? Maybe Ruppert was on to something.

Good riddance, good coach but his bullying of referees was shameful and should not have been tolerated.

Any truth to the rumours that the players have asked Alvarez to coach the rest of the year?

PS Just checked up on Buckyville. They actually started a thread about Ruppert's thread on Ellenson. Odd that they care so much.

I haven't checked over there in awhile, but it seems, at least on the football board there, there's always somewhere between 1 and 4 threads related to the Gophers or Gopherhole on the front page.

Huh? Could you elaborate please.

Congrats to Bo Ryan on a great career. Obviously he's not a favorite of Gopher fans, but the guy found a way to overachieve almost every year he was at Wisconsin. He had a very impressive run and will leave some big shoes to fill.

There isn't a fan base on the planet that is more paranoid about what other people think than that group. It's really something

Well done, Bo. Loyal to the end, stepping down to make sure his top assistant gets a crack at the permanent gig.

Big Ten has lost one of its true characters, and arguably its best coach. Bo in the mold of Keady, Heathcote, entertainment from the sidelines.

Question for the Gophers/Pitino, etc. is, can they pounce on Bo's departure, start turning the tide in this rivalry?

Insecure much?

Go to a board that gives a single **** about what you have to say about wisconsin or your personal hero.

Insecure? Hardly.

I have explained why I visit the hole several times and it has nothing to do with insecurity.

It is all about entertainment. In fact being a fan of any sport, at any level, is all about entertainment. If it is anything else to you then your priorities are wacked.

Now keep that in mind as I tell you that yesterday was a great day in Badger basketball history. One of the great coaches in the history of the game (and certainly the greatest in Wisconsin history) retires from my alma mater after an unbelievable 14 seasons of entertainment and sets it up in a way so that his longest tenured and most trusted assistant gets a chance to continue that legacy.

It is going to be very entertaining to watch.

I go over there a few times a year and every time there is a few threads about the Gophers and Gopherhole. For a team and program that is irrelevant in their eyes, they sure are obsessed with us. My guess is there will be a thread about this thread at some point today.

A few like badgerdoc will say the reason they post here so much is because it's entertainment to them. If that really were the case, then he'd be commenting about other things and not just posting about wisconsin related stuff. He's here to defend his favorite teams.

Weird situation with Ryan. Was any reason given? Was it to give his assistant a chance? Bad season?

A lot of praise will be thrown Bo's way in the coming days. Most of it deserved, some will be over the top hyperbole, but yes most of it deserved.

What many reporters will be afraid to do though is reinforce two points:

- Assuming it is not health related, Bo Ryan quit on his team mid-season. No way around it (again, assuming its not health related). Some will try to paint him as a heroic figure for giving his assistant a chance at the job, but tell that to the players who committed to Bo, who worked hard all offseason to play for him this season, etc. Bo Ryan quit mid-season. No way around that.

- Bo Ryan finished his career losing 2 of his last 3, at home, to in-state foes. That is a fact.

But every game he's ever won was done with 1-star recruits. Who are all not athletic, stiff, and terrible basketball players. He's the magician of all magicians. That's a fact.

GII-

I post on this forum about Wisconsin when the thread or comment is about Wisconsin because that is the team I watch the most. You know, so that I have actual knowledge or at least a reasonably formed opinion about what I am saying.

I don't really get to watch enough Gopher football or basketball to post on topics about on field performance or recruiting.

I have said several times previously that I enjoy reading the posts here because they remind me so much of my earlier experiences as a Badger fan. And to be fair to you, I was much more "rabid" when I was the same age as the players than I am now at age 48. Years of being a fan should give you some perspective.

Cheers
