Back-Up PG Blues

We are going to start building around a 15 year old who may or may not come here? I could personally care less if he comes. We have alot of basketball to play between now and then. This program is bigger than any one individual.

The program is bigger than him- no doubt. But if you go watch him this summer you might change your mind about planning future recruiting around him.

If Welch plays as well as he did this year, but cuts down on the turnovers just a bit, that's perfect. He was very good this season.

Yes, taking care of the ball is important, but it seems you have a turnover complex.

Where did the gophers rank in TO's? Every team has them, lots of them.

To add.

Turnover is not an accurate stat. So many times the player to receive the assist player doesn't seal or curl/cut like he is suppose to.

Every time Welch/Chip made a poor decision to drive an bricked one or got stuffed equals a turnover, but doesn't show up in the stat book.

Yes - I do have a turnover complex because it's an area Minnesota can and MUST improve on.

Compared to the 68 NCAA Tournament teams, Minnesota's turnover rate was worse than 67 of them.

Compared to the 68 NCAA Tournament teams, Minnesota's steal rate was worst than all of them.

Worst in the Big Ten for both turnovers and steals allowed.

I think Tubby does a very good job of Fall recruiting. I expect our NIT run to help recruiting next Fall and getting one or two NCAA wins next season to help the following year. No I wouldn't turn away Tyus, but I'm not lusting for a one and done kid either. The Gopher Faithful have suffered through some very difficult times the past two seasons. 12 returning letterman tells me those times are over. Tubby has put together this experienced, balanced, and deep squad with a great deal of care. Let's just roll the ball out there and watch them play.

Worst by how much? Where are the numbers?

Not doubting, just want to see the numbers.

He's right. We had the worst turnover differential:

1. Purdue 18 145 8.1 206 11.4 +3.39
2. Michigan 18 173 9.6 219 12.2 +2.56
3. Northwestern 18 188 10.4 212 11.8 +1.33
4. Penn State 18 203 11.3 224 12.4 +1.17
5. Ohio State 18 225 12.5 234 13.0 +0.50
6. Wisconsin 18 165 9.2 167 9.3 +0.11
7. Michigan State 18 224 12.4 205 11.4 -1.06
8. Illinois 18 244 13.6 223 12.4 -1.17
9. Nebraska 18 239 13.3 218 12.1 -1.17
10. Indiana 18 228 12.7 198 11.0 -1.67
11. Iowa 18 246 13.7 214 11.9 -1.78
12. Minnesota 18 249 13.8 209 11.6 -2.22

GW is correct, but I hate to get boggled down in statistics. Sure you can cut out a few TO's, but you can also get a few more makes, a few more def. and off. rebounds, a few more tie-ups, etc. etc. Stats tell 50% of the story, actual game scenarios are the other, more important 50% Can you really look at a box score and accurately depict the reason why a team won/lost?

There are lies, damned lies, and statistics.

-Mark Twain

I knew we were doomed when the Beast went down and we had 6 players who never played in the B1G before, and this was when I still expected Huge Mo to be back.

Also, teaching players to take care of the ball is a piece of cake, compared to improving shooting and rebounding.
