Back-Up PG Blues

1st half tonight displayed an energetic MN offense with Dre at the point as compared to the 6-12 in B1G Gophers when anyone other than Dre plays PG. Next year Dre will have to play big minutes without getting into foul trouble given the lack of a reliable back-up.

Yeah, Trent Lockett is looking to more and more of a necessity now. If Dre gets in foul trouble, we're through.

Exactly my point KYGo. Dre picked up his second foul, Tubby had no choice but sit him, and the game fell apart from 21 - 17 to you saw the debacle.

I haven't seen Lockett play, but if he has ball handling skills (anyone see him play PG?), find a way to get him on the squad.

I think he played point for ASU some of the year, after their PG was kicked off the team.

There are undoubtedly PGs not yet signed. If Dre goes down it will be Al Nolen 2.0 again with no one to handle the ball much less provide effective PG play.

Exactly my point; tonite's game was 21-17 when Dre picked up his second foul and had to sit and STAN went on a 14-2 run. Lockett or someone competent PLEASE apply.

Everyone had their flaws, but Mav and Dip were embarrassing!

It's not Nolen 2.0 cuz we would have Welch at point, which is not perfect, but not comparable to last year.

Although Welch is not great, he is light years ahead of Mav. Why Welch is not the primary back up point guard is unreal.

Agreed. Dre will need to improve his ball security to lead this team to the level of "great"

He's not wrong. You can't turn it over at that high of rate and be successful at PG for a GREAT team.

7 of the top 50 PGs in the class of 2012 have not been signed according to ESPN including a 3 star. Welch is not a PG you want shooting pressure FTs or handling the ball and distributing it at crunch time. Besides he is only here for 1 more year and it makes more sense to sign one who will be here when Tyus arrives.

I crowned him 3 or 4 games ago.

He's done great for a frosh who has no inside post guy to go to and until late in the year with Rodney no go to guy to pair up with. He's smart, he gets it and he'll improve. No one is crowning anybody,but his future and the Gopher future is bright with Mbakwe and Mo added next year.

Yes, there is room for improvement, including ball handling, but he DID turn this team around and really only saw major minutes in maybe a half of the Gophers' games. Dre has the keys to 2012/13.

Agreed, it's an obvious flaw. But it all starts at the PG. You CAN'T have a PG that turns it over at that high of a rate and expect to be successful.

Unless GW is doing a really impressive act, you could not be him, your writing style is terrible. Really bad. 3rd Grade level at best.
