WA shoots 58/50 % from FG/ 3’s n we shoot 46/27%. Need more offensive talent on this team to take the next step.
Be cautious to talk about coach P or some will come for your head lol ( P.S. I agree )Coach P is going to have to learn in the big 10 you need to have an offense. Yes, Definitely miss Braun, understand that, but while play tough, need to find a way to get few more W's in the big 10.
Every team other than the Gophers seem to have no problem being able to compete and win games with players injured though.I need a full year with no injuries to fully determine what direction this program is heading.
Totally agree.Every team other than the Gophers seem to have no problem being able to compete and winning games with players injured though.
Yeah, by my math that seems right. Hopefully beating Washington in the Big Ten tournament can undo the loss in the committee's eyes, and maybe they can get another win on top of that one to bring them back into the conversation. That next game against Washington will be interesting. It's tough to beat a team twice in a row, and the Gophers now have 40 minutes of tape to learn from their mistakes between Saturday and Wednesday.Think we are locked into playing Washington in the B1G tournament also, oy!
Well, there were a lot of those.Gophers now have 40 minutes of tape to learn from their mistakes.
Marlene was a good coach, and Dawn is a great coach. Both way better than Lyndsey, who was the equivalent of a middle school bb coach. We wouldn't be having a post season conversation if Dawn wasn't the coach. Then we'll have to live another year knowing that the greatest coach in Gopher WBB history, based on results, was Marlene Stollings, the coach of the only team in NCAA history to miss the Tournament with an AP First-Team All-American and who couldn't last more than two years on her subsequent job, since the Gophers haven't been to the Tournament/won a tournament game since her.
Love the passion and I agree the team misses Braun and Woodson. Both our men’s and women’s coaches play to small of a rotation and it’s showing late in the season.Shocking that yet again nameless/faceless cowards suddenly know more than Dawn. Also, it's LINDSAY WHALEN. Learn before coming at people and looking stupid.
If Stollings with her history of player abuse is what you want, speaks to how messed up you are as a person... cause there is more important aspects than basektball.
So now we are not competing... Losses by 10, 8, 7, 5 at home..with an average of 25 ppg sitting there in two injuries. But right not competing. I'd love to see any of you keyboard warriors D1 coaching record...or right.. none of you have even sniffed coaching at D1. Once again.. I gave everyone the email/mailing address for Dawn and the coaches... Does anyone wanna grow a pair and tell them how much more you know about her job than her? and actually use your face and name?
So Gophers should play tougher non-conference... Like when Washington Lost to Montana 68-82 in non-con.You know the same team the Gophers beat by 84-45. mmm how'd that happen? Washington played a stronger non-con, but lost to Indiana by 70-73... remind me again how did Dawn and the Gophers do against Indiana again?
Don’t know where to start. Very disappointing game turning into a disappointing season. This team should not be 0-4 at home against Michigan, Iowa, Oregon and Washington. I know they probably win a couple of those with Braun and Woodson but they still have 2 three year starters and 2 two year starters on the court. I love Sophie’s growth this year but she looked lost tonight. Battle and GG allowed Washington back in with turn overs. Washington has a legit Big Ten offense, Gophers not so much.
They had a whole week off to rest and prepare.Gophers looked fatigued in second half. They would play tough defense all the way down to 5 seconds, but then let a clean look, or a drive to the basket without keeping the offensive player in front of them. Would really like to see Kennedy Click and Niamaya Holloway rotated in for energy and defensive pressure a little more often. GG, Heyer, Battle, Stewart all looked really tired and flushed latter half of second half and 3rd quarter. I only suggest this to get more on the ball pressure. I thought Holloway brought a lot of energy and defense in 4th quarter. Click seems to be a decent ball handler and can take some pressure off Mckinney and Battle maybe set up some transition offense. Shot's just didn't fall tonight and Washington hit a lot and used up a lot of clock. They seemed to do a good job of identifying the slower player on switch and isolate an advantage and get a clean drive to the basket
I think you are on to something with Holloway, especially in the quick return matchup with Washington/Daniels. Hart is a really bad matchup for players like Daniels (and Hannah Stuelke to a lesser degree). When Hart is matchup challenged, would love to see more of a 3-way split with Holloway, Stewart and Hart. Holloway looks increasingly like a player who can help in more than just spot duty or offense-defense substitutions.Gophers looked fatigued in second half. . . . Just need better players still. Should be way better options at PG and C as well as athleticism across the boardCoach P is going to have to learn in the big 10 you need to have an offense. They were prepared, Washington was able to get isolation plays and make shots, get our defense caught in the motion trash at times. It's a long season, and Gophers will see the same motion and press action I think going forward. When you get plays at the rim that are open you have to consistently finish with a score, especially when other side starts using a lot of clock and creates steals. Grace was able to score but Washington's pressure affected a lot of Gopher shots. Fatigue is tough in a long season even with all the training and recovery efforts. That showed up a little bit on rebounding tonight, beat to some boards Gophers usually get. They had a whole week off to rest and prepare.![]()
It might help the Gophers on a match up basis when there is a quick big. The head Coach, and coaches know who can execute and make the plays from practice, it was just an observation based on the Iowa, OSU, UCLA, and tonights game on speed and isolation. UCLA has so much basketball talent, they will likely win a National title. I don't pretend to know more than the coaches, ever. This time of year individual match-up's can make or break a game. Washington is a good shooting team even when you defend well most of the clock, very quick motion offense. Seems like you have to deny them the ball at the arc and consistently keep them in front of you. They caught us on some switches that gave them an athletic edge. Gophers went stone cold on offense in second quarter, a little panic and forcing of shots. Gophers will see that team again next week, looks like for sure. Hopefully the Gophers have the edge next time.I think you are on to something with Holloway, especially in the quick return matchup with Washington/Daniels. Keep in mind this is only year 2 of this regime, and the Big 10 is a tough as nails league. Gophers have talent just need more depth and scoring. Doesn't happen overnight. Washington has had their system churning, and ran out a lot of players tonight. One of their top scorers got hot and made a lot of shots even on tough looks. 3 pointer at just before 0 was a dagger 1:23 of the clock left. Gophers are down two quality scoring threats. Still a chance to make the dance.Just need better players still. Should be way better options at PG and C as well as athleticism across the board
They do huh? Mmmm let’s review…Totally agree.
I have listened to many pre/post game interviews with the coaching staff. Many times the comments are regarding the other team having extra day(s) of preparation. Washington beat Nebraska on Sunday... travelled and prepared for and completely dominated the Gophers on Wednesday. The last time I felt that we were so poorly prepared for a game was against Penn State in the Big Ten tournament a few years ago. They had a whole week off to rest and prepare.![]()
Agree with this totally, somewhere when the schedule got tougher, whatever confidence the Gophers had has disappeared. Currently there is not a go to player we have right now. Unfortunately for Gophers the peak every year in early season then regress from there."Peaking at the right time of the year." That is Washington. I doubt if anyone in the Big Ten wants to play them right now.
On the other hand, the opposite is true for the Gophers unfortunately. Hard to watch this team the past several weeks. They do not seem to be getting better. They do not have confidence.
No one seems to have the "give me the ball. We need a basket and I'm going to get us one" attitude. Maybe because no one is capable of it? Or no one wants to take the risk? Whatever the case, when the going gets tough the past several weeks, things go the opposite direction.
