I am so tired of Watkins! That was another offensive foul and instead of being down 7 with the ball we are down 10.....C'mon. So tired of the star names getting the calls.
 




#44 Irafen will be quite a WNBA player. Can't teach size that can shoot well from outside. Thought Gophers defended Watkins well, not a consolation but they guarded her well.
 


The ending all was the missed offensive foul on JuJu that then led to the and 1. We got it down to 7 and should have had another stop there. Instead it was 10 and ends the run.

Wrong. They did not play a clean game n poorly defended the 3 but played hard against the # 4 team. No moral victories just great experience to compete against the best.
 

Honestly thought we were going to get blown out. But tenacious D kept the Gophers in it. If not for the missed bunnies in the 1st qtr, it would've been closer.

Way to go Gophers! 〽️ 🏀

Yeah not sure. Coach P sure trusted the Depth vs Maryland and that paid off, but we are running GG and Battle to the ground playing their minutes every night. The one thing I don't understand with coach P. Sure Johnson may have missed some D assignments but so does GG and everyone else at times. Johnson also creates instant offense. I wish reporter would ask those tough questions to coach

GG needs to get quicker and be able to release the 3 PT shot quicker. Still Heyer was the only one that made a 3 PT all night. USC had 14 more 3 PT attempts that led to 6 more 3 PT made that is 18 points and how we lose. We just seem afraid to keep letting them fly or two slow to shoot. USC much quicker on the shots.

Dang it...was really hoping for the upset here!

Don’t disagree but also can see we’re years a head of what we were last year. That’s probably the closest game USC has had in conference (didn’t look it up) with everyone coming back next year and getting another top 50 recruit this program is on the rise.

Oh absolutely! I really thought we had a good chance to get the big upset. We made many efforts to get back into the game, just needed some more production from the arc and we get the upset!
 

they should be VERY PROUD of how they fought all game long.. we didn't have an answer for Kiki in the 1st half and Juju showed why she is Juju in the 2nd half..

wish we could have gotten GG going from deep but i'm guessing scouting report was don't let her get going from deep!

good to see Mal know down a season high five 3's tonight

Sophie last two games have been fantastic, seems like she is finding her groove.. she will have her hands full on Sunday against Betts.

but hats off to thhhe they didn't STOP FIGHTING didn't QUIT again..

that no charge called kind of swung the game..

And I’m also baffled by the Johnson situation. I really really hope we don’t lose her to the portal.

Rose's role on this team has never been to score. She's in the game to handle the ball, find scorers and play tough defense.
 




Worried about a tired team going up against a well-rested #1 team.
 

An excellent effort against an extremely athletic team. There were a few occasions we were playing 5 against 8, but that didn’t change the end result. I still think that we dribble way too much, and are much more effective when we move the ball. There were several instances where the lady who took the ball inbounds, never gave it up.

Battle is a great player and is likely our best player at this time. But she is not a true point guard by any stretch of the imagination. Btw, was I the only one who saw how many screens Hart set, and the ball handler left too much space when she went by, making the screen a waste of time?

Odd why USC pressed us in the last minute up a lot. Good on McKinney for stealing the ball after that. That press was the equivalent of of bunting up ten in baseball. Only difference is in baseball the next pitch was in your ribs!
 

Really quality game played last night. This team is tough and doesn't back down. Really fun to watch.
  • Frustrated a top player in the country who looked like she had no interest in the game and yest she had 18 in the 2nd half, but she was miserable.
  • Moved the ball and got quality shots.
  • Probably really make it a game if Stewart was able to hit a couple of her shots. Some great looks but they just didn't fall.
  • Battle and GG are really fun to watch play. They are really hardnosed.
  • Heyer kept us in the game with great shooting
  • Miss Braun and having another player create and potentially open up even more catch and shoot options for others.
  • Hart was awesome!
Going to be a really tough game Sunday after the energy last night. Hoping to hold court and beat who we need to beat.

I agree with everything you say, especially about the dribbling. It slows everything down, and eventually discourages people from moving and cutting to the basket.

In addition to poor defense, Johnson does not create offense for others, instead she is always looking to get the ball for herself. She doesn’t intentionally move without the ball to set screens or assist others.

And she does this very well. She is tenacious at on-ball defending, staying with the toughest guards on the other team for the past several games. She creates steals and tips, as well as forcing bad passes. And for being so small, she gets more rebounds than I would expect. Yes, she is not a scorer, but she can bring the ball up against some of the best defenders, and I love watching her play defense!

And every time she drives into a thicket of bigs or misses a wide open three, I cringe. Many of her attempts are so bad or forced, they should be labeled turnovers. Her ball handling and defense are great, but I wish she had a better understanding of her limitations.
