B1G Championship Game 2023

I would like to think I know hockey pretty well. How did the offsides goal stand? And how were there no penalties on either side for the skirmish after the net came loose at the end?

Lose 4-3. Get completely outplayed when the chips are down. Rinse, repeat. Gopher pucks in a nutshell. NCAA tourney favorite? I dare them to prove it.
I'll tell you how they'll do in the NCAA tournament, win their first game and probably the regional final and then get shutout in the frozen four again.

Sometime between now and the NCAA tournament, we need to find a way to avoid defensive zone turnovers, and for our defensemen to be stronger when we get pinned in our own end. Too much puck watching and not enough moving bodies.
Smaller ice will help. Gophers are too slow watching the puck go low to high when closing out on defensemen.

That would be a very typically "pride on ice" conclusion for this program.

CHOKE AGAI

Ummmm, the better team tonight did win the game sorry...

I'm as big of a Gopher fan as there is BUT this was a game Michigan outplayed the Gophers... they spent much more time in the Gopher zone than in the Michigan zone. They shut the Gophers down in their own zone and that was the difference IMO.
UMMMMMMMMMMMM, thanks for singling my quote out for no reason. Minnesota has better speed and until I get a real definition for why that goal was not overruled because of offsides, I hold my point.

The ref is saying that Knies put his skate on the puck and forced it into the zone. Not saying he’s right or wrong but that’s the only explanation. Of course for that to be the call Kines would have had to “possess” the puck which he certainty did not.

That one play is not why they lost. They were sloppy in their zone. They looked for the long stretch pass all 2nd period and it was not there. I don’t have the stats but it seemed like they lost a lot of face offs.

I'm sure they'll get right on getting that reply back to you to satisfy your angst :ROFLMAO:

I did single out your quote as I don't think we watched the same game based off what you typed.

God I hate our fan base. We lose by one goal that should have been called off to a top 3 team in the country and all of a sudden we’re a bunch of chokers. Some of you are truly miserable people.
Ski- U- Mah we can still win a Natty!

OK, thank you for the explanation. The bad thing is I agree, they looked bad after the first 15 minutes. They have what it takes, but just shit the bed. I'm just pissed off.

I think it was a bad call. It definitely touched Knies skate, but I think it was a defection not him directing it into the zone.

Apologies. I've had a few brewskies, and am upset from losing to the ugly helmets. I tend to agree with you . michigan had a more consistent system. minnesota had superior flashes but not consistent.

Minnesota seemed a bit lethargic for quite some time in the second period.

Not aggressively going after the puck and a lot of defensive slowness.

Still don’t understand how Knies bring tripped didn’t cause a penalty shot?

I get it. No need to apologize. I really wanted these guys to show their dominance and they just didn't do it which was truly a huge letdown to watch.

My dog had to leave the room as I got so upset and loud with how they continued to give the puck away in their own zone.

Disappointing and I watched Motzko on the Post game interviews on the network and he said this will be a learning moment again and I'm sorry, hearing that is getting old.

If you're still learning how to play games at this point of the season, I'm not feeling real good about the team along with his leadership to get them to learn these lessons earlier in the year.

Oh well - they are one of the best two teams in the nation with Michigan the better team from what I saw tonight.

Let's hope Michigan gets knocked off as I do think they are the only team that can beat the Gophers.

Also same old shit reffing about delay of game
Yeah, you have to start calling that BS. He's known for it...they should warn the coach before the game and then call it. Gophs did not play well but letting shit like that go is a poor reflection on the refs.

Dang. The men and women hockey players have been drinking out of the basketball players' water bottles again.

Guessing he wasn't considered completely clear on a breakaway. Gophs had a few bad line matchups as well.

Coming out of the woodwork fans. Gophs had an off night against a very good team. They will bounce back.

I think Minnesota has better overall talent, but loses intensity. Maybe I don't know shit form shinola, but man did they look unbeatable the 1st 10 minutes. Then, the uglies took their system and took control. Then the Gophs faught back, took the lead and followed that up with relaxed effort.

There are many things I don't know and I openly admit it, but the concept of "team effort" seems to be very difficult for every team to perfect. Minnesota seems to have better individual talent, but lost to a system. The offside non call is arguable and a legitimate talking point, but the styles of aggression is what is important. Minnesota had flashes, but not the consistency needed. Hopefully they learn and make a deep run in the tourny.

Out of the gate both teams were fast and precise. The passing, speed, connecting was first rate.

Then in the 2nd Minnesota was not quite that. Passes not quite as good, defense opened just enough. More like they were at practicing speed. Michigan stayed the machine.

Great team, just reporting what I saw from prime seats.

The place was loud at the refs.

About the people complaining... it was the title game. It was an important game, not just a little off one game.

Damm right people can complain. Two years in a row in our house and today as #1.

When was the last time either hockey program won a national title?

Get it done!

Michigan has better overall talent. The reason we won the conference by 19 points over a more talented team is that we consistently brought more effort and structure and team play all year. When Michigan turns it up and you make a couple mistakes, they can make you pay. That’s what happened tonight. A lot of overreaction going on in this thread.

I’m not trying to come at you personally as we’re all entitled to our views, but your post reads as someone who hasn’t followed much college hockey outside of this game.

About that non-offsides call on the Michigan score. The call was right.

The puck went over the line with a Michigan player in the zone.

The Michigan player came out and tagged up at the blue line.

After that the other Michigan player coming into the zone touched the puck.

The key is when the player touched the puck in the zone.

It is not offsides simply to have the puck over the line with a player not clear. It is offsides when you touch the puck with a guy not clear.

Now the other non-call was the Michigan goaltender obviously knocking off the net. I can see where they won't call that penalty as accidental knocking the net even though it was clear that he did it on purpose.

People were in denial that adding Nazar made Michigan the obvious most talented team in the country.

Not a single person denied Michigan being the most talented team in the country. People denied that it makes them automatically unbeatable and their record with him shows they can be beaten. Stop making stuff up

Right, would have been offsides if the Michigan player had control. He was just tagging up.

Would agree on the second point if it was Portillo’s first time doing it during the game. That was his fourth. Of course they warn him after the fourth time and not earlier.

It's a complete joke. It should be 3rd time is a penalty. Or since Big Ten reffing sucks call it the 4th. But they're too scared to even do that against UM. Not scared to call it on Dobes after 4.

That was the most watched hockey game in B1G Network history.

Out of curiousity I'm curious how many viewers a Rutgers vs Illinois football game gets.
