B1G All-Conference Awards (including BTN.com's)

I'm not even sure Aaron Craft is on my list of top 6 PGs in the conference.

Crazy that PSU got two players and we didn't get anyone. Mathieu was screwed. He's going to have a chip on his shoulder going into next year.

Compare, side by side, Craft and Mathieu's stats.

Craft has the edge in steals (1 more per game), and about 1/2 a rebound per game more, but Mathieu owns him on pretty much everything else.

I don't mean any disrespect to Craft. He's clearly a class act, who will go far in life. That said, he might be the most overrated player in the history of the Big Ten.

ETA: I would also argue that Mathieu puts far more pressure on opposing defenses, and was significantly more valuable to his team. OS would have managed just fine without Craft. Gophers would probably be in last place without Mathieu.

He's out of room on his slight shoulders to fit all these chips !

But Aaron Craft is a good hustler, so he clearly deserves it.

If Dre didn't get hurt, he'd be a third teamer. Mathieu's not there yet. Could see him making a spot next year if he gains a little ball security and maturity.

It's sad that Damian was never even on the All-Defensive team (should have been DPoY) and Craft is DPoY. **** these awards.

He should have been ahead of Frazier and Craft. No one from PSU should have made it and Craft got on as a lifetime achievement (of hype) award.

How did Austin not make the All Defensive Team? Josh Gasser?? Are you f...ing kidding me? This feels like Damian Johnson all over again.

Frazier deserved it. Newbill I'm not so sure. Personally, I'd take Payne over Kaminsky as well. The fact that NO Gophers made it makes me scratch my head. Lil Dre deserved something

Gasser is only a good defensive player in that he makes dirty plays to hurt the guy he's defending.

People really undervalue Big Dre's influence on our team. We played our worst when he was out of the lineup. When he plays well we usually play very well. I think he was more deserving of being on one of these teams than Lil Dre but I expect both to be on them next year. Mo might sneak onto one of them too.

We have always been screwed in these awards. We need to finish top 2 or 3 then we'll get our due respect.

LaQuinton Ross seems like a strange snub by the media.

DeAndre Mathieu meant so much to this Gopher team, I wonder if he makes one of the teams if he either A)Gets the "and 1" call at MSU or B)Gets the call at home against Northwestern. One more win puts the Gophers at 9-9 in conference and Mathieu would have had another play of the game to go with his steal and finish at PSU and his "Texas step (Texas hop?)" layup against Indiana.

The one positive is that Lil Dre and Big Dre have some extra motivation going into the BTT, especially with PSU getting two guys ahead of them. Having beat PSU twice, pretty easily no less, we could use some extra motivation.

PSU had two players and they had a worse record than us.

No way. You need more than 2 good games to get honors. If you are going by that standard EE should be All-Conference for his early performance before falling off a cliff.

I'm not picking on you madtown, but it's just bizarre how much people downplay Austin's play. He's had more than 2 good games. In fact, in the last 10 he has shot 49% from the field, made 91% of his free throws all while leading the team with 32.9 minutes played.

I get it that numbers don't tell you everything but he's better than some are giving him credit for too.

For me, his mistakes late in games that we could/should have won are inexcusable for a senior with as much experience as him. I can't believe people were shocked that he was left off the All-Defensive team. Just because he was our best defender (which is probably even up for debate, though I'd lean his way) doesn't mean he is considered a top defender in the league. Other than defense and a handful of games where he was hitting his jumper, he really didn't stand out at all this year.

My list of players most deserving for some sort of recognition:

1. Mathieu
2. Dre
3. Walker
4a. Austin (2nd half)
4b. EE (1st half)

And if I know my Pitinos, Richard will be reminding them of the snub all week.

Frazier was my preseason pick for conference POY last year before the ACL tear, imagine if Jermaine marshal wouldn't have forgone his senior year just to play overseas, best backcourt in the Big Ten and a tourney team if not.

I don't think this press release has been posted yet, per the U of MN...

Andre Hollins, DeAndre Mathieu Earn All-Big Ten Honorable Mention

A pair of junior guards from the Minnesota men’s basketball team was recognized for their performance this season, as both Andre Hollins and DeAndre Mathieu were named All-Big Ten honorable mention. Hollins was honored by both the head coaches and media voting panel, while Mathieu was recognized by the media.

Hollins, a native of Memphis, Tenn., is the team’s leading scorer, ranking 12th in the conference at 14.6 points per game. He also ranks second in free throw percentage (.838). This season, he has scored in double-figures 23 times, including his first-career double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds against Omaha. He has improved his school-record career free-throw percentage to .843, and also has moved into 19th among all-time Gophers with 1,242 points. He was a All-Big Ten third team selection by the media and coaches honorable mention a season ago.

Mathieu, in his first season with the Gophers after transferring from Central Arizona College, is the Gophers’ leading assist man, ranking fourth in the Big Ten (4.4 apg). He is sixth in steals in the B1G (1.6 spg) and the Gophers’ second-leading scorer at 11.9 ppg (B1G: 23rd). The Knoxville, Tenn., native scored a season- and career-high 27 points vs. Omaha, and has 19 double-digit scoring games this season.

Hollins, Mathieu and the seventh-seeded Gophers (19-12) open Big Ten Tournament play on Thursday evening. Minnesota faces No. 10 Penn State in opening round action at 6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. CT, with the game televised live on ESPN2.

I think Austin gets a lot of heat for the way he plays in bad games. While most players have lousy shooting nights but keep shooting, Austin just shuts down. Witness 1-4 shooting against Ohio State. Seniors disappearing like that shouldn't happen.
