I have been a fan for 60 years. Is it time to move on? I have moved on from the Vikings. I remember the Chuck Forman days and I don't waste my Sunday's anymore. Is it time to also start enjoy my Saturdays?

Plenty of heartbreak over the years…but big wins and Saturdays at Huntington will keep me coming back.

It has been worse.

It has been better.

No doubt very difficult when we go fetal 20 minutes into a 60 minute contest.

Also interesting that at least half of the stands was gone midway into the 4th quarter. The beat-the-traffic impulse was stronger than waiting-to-see-Floyd make the ceremonial march around the field fun.

I think Floyd's voter registration card could legitimately read residence address "Kinnick Stadium, Iowa City, IA" at this point. Sigh.

Billds will be there against Sparty rare'in to go. Ski U Mah.

I have said this many times. I have not moved from my teams but certainly have lost the passion I once had and transfer that to my Grandkids and staying busy. Football on both levels has changed so much. I am still going to the bank but not every game, still watch the Vikes but not on the couch, more like baseball in the back ground.

I’ve attended more than 1500 Gopher football/hockey/basketball/baseball games. Rationally, I should have said it long ago given all the heartbreak/despair/and occasional disgust (like yesterday). That said, it’s multi-generational in our family and when it’s time for the next game we go hoping for the best. And beating Nebraska six straight times provides some emotional cushion.

I'll always be a fan of the Minnesota Golden Gophers, no matter what.
That said, I'm not a fan of PJ Fleck, and haven't been since Bowling Green.
I'd like to see them fire Mark Coyle, get an AD that truly knows how to fundraise and administer the athletic department, and then have him/her hire a new head football coach.
The right coach for the job.
Wishful thinking?
Probably...

It's just a game. If it's affecting your health negatively then yes, move on.

The athletic department at the U in men’s athletics is in bad shape, right? I don’t follow as close as in my younger days, of which there have been many, but baseball has fallen, basketball has been poor, hockey seems a little down, this year anyway.

Football just muddles along has had some talented players, lots of NFL guys, occasional big win, negated by a couple inexplicable losses most years. Football is not rebuilding, it has been built, this is it, just good enough to make us think “we will get over the hump this year.”

I think Coach P.J. Is a good coach, but this is about how far this horse is gonna ride year after year.

Maybe a new AD makes more sense than a new coach, but if nothing changes, nothing will change. I believe we are where we will be, until…….

A new AD usually leads to a new football coach.

Football has definitely plateaued. It is what it is by now. Fleck missed the window following up the almost-great 2019 because of Iowa, COVID, then tons of injuries on what could have been a nice 2021 team. It's been a step down since then. Losing to Iowa almost every year has also been the difference between playing in decent bowls with national exposure and shit bowls.

All true. But why does the U not really care about winning? At least since the 60s.

I've asked this previously but what is everyone's definition of caring about winning? Cheating, that's basically legal now. Admitting kids that shouldn't get in to school? You never hear about that at all now that they get paid and are no longer playing school. At this point they need another 2019 that includes a playoff trip to hopefully get some bigger NIL. Is it likely, I'm not holding my breath. Definitely not when we play not to lose. The most frustrating part is hearing this is Fleck's best and deepest team and we still turtle and get pushed around.

All true. But why does the U not really care about winning? At least since the 60s.

Just speculating, but the U leadership is extremely risk averse now when it comes to scandal. The University has an extremely short leash culturally in this market. To his credit, Fleck excels on this point.

Idiot Maturi handed the reigns to a fat ass introvert former coordinator with questionable leadership skills which opened the door for the nasty 2016 scandal. I'm sure that is still fresh in leadership's mind.

The basketball team went through two high profile scandals and has generally sucked since the last one. Stuff like Gangelhoff-gate would never have been reported in a lot of markets, but it's a sure thing here.

As long as the athletics department keeps its head above water financially and stays clean, I'm sure leadership is just fine with that.

Having a 5-3 record with two blowout losses isn't a reason to abandon the team.

I do find it a source of exasperation with the coach. I don't know whether anyone is satisfied with achieving a level slightly above mediocre over the long term.

These are still 19 and 20 year old kids, they get super up for one game — Nebraska — beat the pants off of them, think they deserve to be rated and let down their intensity in the next game. They simply didn’t show up. We see this often. It’s on the coaches. They’ll rebound.

It happens every single year, though, against Iowa/Ferentz. That's not just a let down.

I can stick through another coaching cycle after fleck and if it shows life I’m sure I’ll be here. Saturdays at the Bank are lots of good memories for me. I have two season tickets and every game I bring a different friend - that’s what it’s mostly about for me.

Yesterday’s loss is brutal because we all keep waiting for that program chanting victory that doesn’t come. But, I still believe that if our OLIne gets shored up and Drake sticks around we’ve got a shot at improving a lot.

I said enough was enough and haven’t traveled to Iowa either of the last two times after hitting about a dozen in a row.

I missed a win
Also missed yesterday.

Better O Line, D Line, running backs, WRs and more team speed on both sides of the ball and we will be fine.

Grew up a Gopher fan...some of my fondest memories are going to games in the 70's with my dad. I'm retired now, live in Florida full time. I probably don't watch as much as I used to...but, to this day, I check and see how every team from Minnesota has done in the morning.
