Andy Katz throws Norwood Teague under the bus for how firing was handled

Really hope he hires a coach before AAU season starts in mid-April.

Teague has botched this whole coaching situation. The way he handled Tubby's firing was inexcusable and classless. The way the new coaching search is going is just chaotic. He has to make a move soon or we stand to lose recruits and current players. Now that Shaka is off the table he better bring in Flip or I am selling my season tickets.

You sir are an absolute idiot. Seriously? This is the problem with this University, "Fire him, no Fire him." Teague is the only big time guy this athletic dept has seen since Holtz. He's not one of "us" thankfully.

Grant will be a good coach and recruiter if given support. No matter who Teague and Ellis get I am behind them. They have succeeded and are great basketball minds.

You sir, go back to your hole!!!!

It has been 2 Days people!!! Relax!! Some candidates are still coaching yet!

Teague has proven nothing on the big stage.....I disagree, Grant as proven nothing

A little premature, but Teague is on the verge of a PR nightmare. Firing Tubby so quickly got the fan base excited in anticipation of a big move. Three days later, it looks like the football coaching search debacle all over again. If Teague settles on a candidate like Grant or Bennett it will not sit well and many will wish Tubby were still here.

Sorry, I think you overestimate the love of Tubby among the fanbase. There is no doubt in my mind most fans would prefer alot of other coaches (including Grant or Bennett) over keeping the status quo with Tubby. Lets reminisce about those grand old days of second division conference finishes, February collapses, unranked recruiting classes, player defections, and horrendous half court offense. Oh the good old days.

You are right. I wish Tubby was still here. People think whoever comes in will be better than Tubby, that's not true. Anthony Grant? Come on!!!

Because Tubby brought us so much success? Disappointing seasons, losing BT records, and one tourney win in 6 seasons. No player development whatsoever, hockey line shifts, and great inbounds plays out of timeouts. Thanks Tubby you did improve us, but your time was done. Tubby had no fire in his belly.

Give me a young hungry coach with an athletic facilities upgrade on the way. I will bet money we will achieve more than 1 NCAA win over the next 6 seasons.

Tubby has set the program up well too. I assume you have seen Shaka's 12 man rotation? just want to see wat Norwood brings us before I trash him

Nice to see that rational thought has completely abandoned this discussion...

But Smith said he knew he would be fired by the time his bosses broke the news to him.

“Oh sure, by that time, sure you knew I knew,” he said. “I had an idea. But that’s neither here nor there. I appreciate the opportunity to spend time with you. I hope I’m still a close personal friend. We’ll talk again.”

Sids' probably just giddy right now. He has another "close personal friend" in Tubby Smith!

Disagree - I would take Tubby anyday before Grant. You people in Gopherhole complained about mediocrity with Tubby...well bring in Grant and that is what you will have.

I agree 100% to this

Two things to consider:

1. If Katz would have gotten the story instead of Goodman, he wouldn't have ripped the process. Katz is simply pissed he got beat on the story.

2. Coaching searches take time. A year ago, it took Illinois nearly three weeks between when they fired Weber and hired Groce. So don't panic if it takes 10 days or two weeks.

Teague should already have a plan, maybe he does, but with all these rumors it's making it hard to believe he has one. He is making every other coach richer though.

Except Grant wins at .590 clip in his conference. If Grant's record is mediocore, Tubby's is absolute garbage.
