Andre McDonald Makes a Golden In-State Decision!!! UPDATED w/ extensive Q&A!

Great job by the staff and welcome Andre! I'll gladly eat a large plate of crow on this one, I thought there was no chance after he took the visit to UCLA.

Can we all agree that this is the best recruiting class in-state in memory? The top 4 kids in state (McDonald, Hayes, Pirsig, Nelson), 7 of the top 8, and 10 total? I realize we won't "know for sure" until several years from now, but I can't think of a better signing day with the Minnesota kids.

No need to eat crow. You were probably the most vocal person on this board on the need to upgrade at WR.

Forgot his name, but would like to get the local WR you mentioned for the class of 2013.

Great news, obviously. Kill has practically swept in-state, which is nothing to sneeze at.

Gopher Hole: What coaches were at the house?

Andre McDonald: Coach Zembrowski, Coach Anderson, Coach Poore and Coach Kill.

Four on one. Now that's the way to do it. Head coach, receiver coach, QB coach, RB coach. "Here's our offensive plan and how you fit into it".

Quote from KARE11: "I feel like I have my father figure away from home". Love it.

I'm so glad to have Andre McDonald in the Maroon & Gold!!!

I will do my happy dance now...

I'm happy for Gopher Nation! Andre's decision was sometimes REAL...sometimes it was RAW....now, that it's final; it's simply REAL RAW!

good get for the gophers. this deff helps at aleviating some concerns at the wr poition.

If anyone does feel the need to eat crow, it might as well be tasty. And no, I haven't tried it.

Summer Crow Kabobs

Ingredients
16 pieces of crow breast meat (no bones) (8 crows)
16 pieces of green pepper
16 cherry tomatoes
8 button mushrooms
8 ears of sweet corn
1 1/2 cups of Teriyaki sauce
1/2 cup melted butter
8 kabob skewers

Preparation
Cut each piece of crow in half and place in a covered bowl with the Teriyaki sauce over night. Clean and cut each ear of corn into 3 pieces. Cook in boiling salt water for 10 minutes. Alternately put corn (3 pieces), green peppers (3 pieces) and cherry tomatoes (3) along with 4 pieces of crow meat on each skewer. Use 1 mushroom to top each skewer. Brush with melted butter and place on preheated grill for about 4 minutes. Flip, butter again and place back on grill for another 4 minutes. Repeat one last time for a total of 12 minutes or until they appear done. Serves four adults.

Curious that one major contributor who led the vilifiers has been noticeably silent on this change of heart by Andre. Especially, since the guy fancies himself a recruiting guru.

Where is Kyle Kessel, anyway?

This is great great news!

Congrats to Andre, thanks for staying Gold in Gold Country!

May your time here be as successful as we all hope!

Congrats to Coach Kill (and other MN guys) for making Gold!

And to think I avoided GH the last 24 hours, so I wouldn't be bummed.... Great news!

Hope these MN kids realize what a big deal this is to there home-state.....does anyone believe that there would be 6 pages of posts on the UCLA board if he had committed there?

I think I'll pass.

have u seen the class they are starting to put together... top 10 per scout... top 18 per rivals... they would have loved andre there, but he is not the big name out there like he is in mn..

Do we need to worry about him not getting in academically or anything like that? I thought I heard somewhere, maybe on here, that he was told there was no way he would qualify at Vandy and that's why he withdrew his commitment there.

Hopefully I heard wrong and there is nothing to worry about, dude looks like a stud of a WR.

You definitely didn't hear that on here. He withdrew from Vandy because his position coach left.

No ‘Chance’ McDonald to Drop U
January 30, 2012 - (0) comments

Gophers coach Jerry Kill received a rare four-star commitment (ESPN.com) late last week when All-State Hopkins High School wide receiver Andre McDonald announced he will sign a national letter of intent with Minnesota on Wednesday. McDonald committed to the Gophers last year, but then changed his pledge to Vanderbilt in the fall.

Will he switch again in the next 48 hours? “I don’t think there’s any chance of that,” said John DenHartog, Hopkins coach. “I think he’s excited about the decision. Minnesota is the best place for him. He can help the program.”

DenHartog said McDonald gave up Vanderbilt this winter after the wide receivers’ coach left to join a new coaching staff at Illinois. Chris Beatty then recruited McDonald aggressively as did Iowa.

The Gophers are neither deep in bodies or talent at wide receiver. McDonald is about 6-3 and 205 pounds, and was a dangerous receiver in high school. “He’s got some unique skills,” DenHartog told Sports Headliners. “He can be a difference maker. He can make moves in tight spaces and make people miss and turn in big gains.”

DenHartog said McDonald “has unlimited potential” but that Kill didn’t promise a starting job. “Andre knows he’s going to have to work hard,” DenHartog said.

The Hopkins coach has been impressed with the forthrightness and caring of Kill. He also likes the longevity Kill and his staff have with one another. DenHartog is optimistic about the downtrodden Gophers program.

“If anyone (a coach) is going to do it, I believe he’s the one,” DenHartog said. “His intensity and honesty are really refreshing. The majority of time people are trying to sell a dream but coach Kill, he’s going to be forthright and the kids appreciate that.”

McDonald is playing in the International Bowl in Austin, Texas on Wednesday night. He’s expected to sign his paper work committing to the Gophers that day.

Go Gophers!!

McDonald will be a big time WR @ the U - if of course health issues don't start taking him off the field. He's strong and athletic!

Maybe not next year, maybe not after two years, but 3 years from McDonald will be a name that everyone in the country knows about.

huh? seriously, where do people "come up" with some of this stuff? please site a legit article/link with specific information pertaining to such when making statements like this about someone. otherwise, don't write this kind of innuendo. as it is not fair at all to the young men involved who don't have a chance to defend/speak for themselves.

congrats andre and welcome to the U of M!

Interesting 2012 for McDonald. He's a Gopher, then he's Vandy bound, then he signs with the Gophers, then he mysteriously quits his HS basketball team late in the season, then he is in and out of the lineup for the Gophers with a weird set of injuries/unexplained DNP's, then he only has 10 catches this year then he is suspended for the bowl game. Lots of time left in his career but not a great freshman year on and off the field.

I remember during one game he was shaking his had at Shortell for missing a pass to him - That did not look good. He has too much talent hope he grows up a little.

Or that our quarterbacks stop missing passes to him.
