Andre Hollins NOT Going to Stanford

I saw that too, I wonder if they accidently left him out. Very odd.

This has to be good news for us. Maybe he didn't want to be that far away from home.

I know academics are important to this kid, but unless he doesn't care AT ALL about the basketball side of things, I would think Harvard is out. Stanford does a good job of athletics and education, but Harvard is an entire different story. So that leaves us and two schools in the cultural armpit of America...I like our chances. No offense to armpits

Based on what?

Harvard has a legit, big-time coach, is recruiting very well, and has been getting better each year. Plus, see what Cornell did last year as proof that it can be done in the Ivy League. It's difficult, true, but it can be done. If you want the best education in the world, why not be part of a group that tries to take Harvard on a deep run into the tournament?

Hollins has said he wants to get to the NBA. He has a much better chance at getting to the NBA by going to a major conference school. The best way to improve is to play against the best players every day in practice and competing against quality in conference opponents. He won't get that at an Ivy-League school. Plus Tubby has a strong history of getting players to the NBA.

Unless Stanford pulled his scholarship offer, this is extremely odd. Everything I read said he really enjoyed the Stanford visit. Why would he drop them of all the schools on the list that he visited? I'm thinking ESPN just left them out accidently.

Chicken or egg. Do major conferences produce more NBA players because they are better at developing players, or do lower-prestige conference produce fewer NBA players because they don't get as many good players?

Scratch that, Dave Telep accidentally forgot to mention Stanford... :(

Telep tweet:

"My bad: Accidentally omitted Stanford from Andre Hollins update. The Cardinal is definitely in mix w/Ole Miss, Auburn, Harvard & Minnesota"

Go Gophers!!

I would change the title of the thread, but I'm not sure how?

If Stanford is in the mix, was there even a reason for this "update." Everyone knew these teams were in play and that a decision would be made in the next week or so.

The purpose of this update was (probably) to say that he would decide by next week.

Omitting Stanford was a simple mistake by ESPN and/or Telep.

I don't think Stanford will sign both Hollins AND Chasson Randle.

Had my adrenaline going for a bit.

Oh well - we'll know next week.

I am thinking Randle will go to Stanford, and make his announcement very soon, so I doubt Hollins will end up there. Honestly, if Auburn and Ole Miss are in your final five, you're not picking a school based primarily on academics.

almost never mind but

When the thread started Stanford was out and I know he is considering Harvard but I don't believe they offer scholarships? So I was thinking we were the leaders but....probably not as much so by the end in about a 3 minute scroll.

Definitely get the vibe Stanford wants Randle. Since reliable sources on GH are posting Randle to Stanford, seems likely that Andre is getting this vibe also. So how does Stanford handle this if they want Randle - do they stall Andre until Randle commits (assuming they do not want two guards).

Solution that makes almost everyone happy -> Randle to Stanford, Hollins to Minnesota. Hopefully Austin is texting Andre telling him to come to Minnesota.

A Question Asked in Total Ignorance

We have plenty of shooting guards now. Why is it so important to add another 6-1 guard? My guess is Coleman is our future 2 guard and he has some height.

No Harvard is not a big time program and will NEVER be on the same level as Stanford, Minnesota and Mississippi. No athletic scholarships either...

I don't have the answers - so I will make some up. Tubby knows he needs a PG. Hollins is a combo guard. I am assuming Tubby thinks Hollins can play PG otherwise Tubby would be recruiting other PGs. All we read about is various SGs. My guess is Tubby is waiting on Hollins and will go after other PGs if Hollins goes elsewhere.

Hollins made a point about playing more PG now that Joe Jackson has graduated. Makes me think Tubby told him we want him as a PG.

Hollins was backup PG (starting SG). Plenty of examples where the backup is given a chance to play and turns out to be really good. A HS team is going to have their 5 best players at the positions that are best for the HS team. In college and the NBA, PG is likely a better fit for Andre.

Just hoping - if not, we are really going to need a PG.

cmoan andre, if your reading this we really want you more than any other school that is recruiting you garunteed. want to win an ncaa game? wont happen at auburn mississippi, harvard, and i doubt stanford. it will happen here with a PG

Best recruit still available that we have a good shot at. As already mentioned, he can play some pg as well and he's a very good shooter. Not to mention he's super athletic and seems to be a very smart, good kid.

Hollins can play both PG and SG just like Devoe Joseph.

And he's 6-2 (not 6-1).

The Hollins video that is available on the web looks very good. Hollins looks to be athletic, an excellent shooter and comes accross as a very bright young man during interviews. I think he will be an outstanding college player and I hope we get to watch him for four years at MN.

Keep in mind that Hoffarber will be gone and Devoe will be a senior when Andre would arrive. Also, it sounds like Tubby wants to try Austin Hollins at SF, so we won`t be loaded at the SG position. Also, like others have said, he might be able to play point.
