per Amelia:

The Best-Case Scenario: Buzz Williams. The Marquette coach just might be get-able. AD Norwood Teague and associate AD Mike Ellis know him well thanks to Villa 7, and there are whispers that Williams’ current situation isn’t ideal. The Gophers would have to give their old friend a raise from his already hefty salary, but the exciting coaching style and ability to win despite lacking elite recruits could be draws.

Go Gophers!!

If Buzz is a realistic option then we obviously need Marquette to lose before we can get him. That makes me a Miami fan tonight.

Not proud to do this, but I'm with Gopher Warrior. No way Buzz comes here.

Buzz to Minnesota makes no sense. Marquette's identity is wrapped up in basketball. Marquette is in the top 15 nationally for how much it spends to recruit male athletes (all sports combined), and it doesn't have a D-1 football program. Marquette spends, without football, more on recruiting than Minnesota spends for all of its male athletes, including football. Unless things are about to be very different at Minnesota in terms of spending (i.e. practice facility and recruiting), Buzz to Minnesota would be a very strange move.

Buzz or Stevens are my personal dream hires. I became a big fan of Marquette due in large part to the coaching style of Buzz. The energy transfers to everyone of his players. We need that here.

Buzz is a scumbag. Where there's smoke there's fire.

Talking to friends at Marquette this stuff is real, not just slander from a Becky board. Its known on campus at MU that the basketball team acts like this, and Buzz turns a blind eye. I don't want that anywhere near the U

Good evidence. Go to the message board of Marquette's in-state rival for proof. Why not link to a legitimate news source?

That's the point, a legit news entity never got their hands on this because of a cover up. All I know is from talking to actual MU stents, which you were as recently as last year. A handful of players live across the street from Caffery's, and would make a habit of heading out to the street at around 1:30 AM and "pick up" any girl who appeared to have been overserved. I was told which players specifically, but thats not really important. I hVe no reason to make any of this up. I just don't want a guy who oversaw a team where this stuff happens and lets the guys continue to play. I'm also in the camp that appreciated that Trevor wasn't allowed to play during his legal troubles

Buzz is on my personal "Yes" list of coaches I'd be happy with.

I have no reason to believe a drunk 18 year old...for all I know she realized she made a mistake after and was embarrassed and decided to make herself look like a victim??? We will never know...

Buzz is at about 1.8 Mill. He might /The gophs might have to Pay Marquette some $$$$ for him to void contract with Marquette.

I followed the Chicago Tribune link and the story reads like something that goes on around college campuses all over the country including the U of M. Not to make light of sexual abuse in any way because it should never happen to anyone yet you read the account and she talks about feeling uncomfortable at the party (Leave), hears athletes talking about having sex with women there and acting inappropriate (leave), ends up doing something with an athlete she says was forced he says was consensual, proceeds to have more drinks and then is involved in a second act.

And after reading all that I still fail to see how this is Buzz Williams fault.

i heard Buzz speak at a WBCA coaches clinic a few years back and the over-riding theme I got from his speech was his loyalty to his kids and the program and how gratefull he was to have the opportunity to coach at Marquette. Some of the players he runs off because he has a better player coming in (or in one case the kid got informed in August that they no longer had a spot for him on the team) might have a different slant on Buzz's feelings on loyalty however. But I don't see this as a step up for him. sideways at best.
If he is really at 2.9 mil at a basketball only school, what is going to happen the first time he can't use Williams arena because of dance line practice?

Ignorant and lazy is a bad combination, but the two often go hand in hand.

Buzz coming here sounds like a self demotion to me. Makes zero sense. I am with GW - no way.

My concern with Buzz is Rick Barnes might have 1 year left at Texas. Buzz is from Texas and it's been reported he's angling for that position and he's got to be on the very short list of candidates Texas would look at. Texas also has almost unlimited resources to pay whatever buyout Buzz might have with the Gophers. Hiring Buzz would not stabilize the program. The minute Barnes gets fired the speculation would be huge. In fact, coaches would recruit against it in his first year.

I like Buzz but I'm definitely concerned about the perception that he'd take the Texas job if it opens up (which is very much a possibility next year)

@AmeliaRayno: Not going to be Buzz. Process happening now. RT I already know that it's Buzz Williams. Now just waiting for them to lose.

Boo. Buzz would have been a good hire.

So if the process is happening now, no Buzz and no Marshall?

And what does she mean by process?

Sorry I don't speak 2013...what???

Scary that this would line up with Richmond Insider (please be coincidence)

I was confused by a number of things when I saw that tweet. It looked like she RT'd herself and answered her own question. Also curious about what she meant by "process." Does she know that we are very close to a hire?
