All Things TV Series Recommendations/Reviews

I would also say that for ME personally, one of the barometers I have always used in gauging the quality of a series (or perhaps the ones I have liked the most just happen to HAVE this trait) is the depth of talent on the staff.

When you have a series where the 5th or 7th most important character is still a great character, to me that's a great series.
It's time for you to give Mad Men another shot. Jon Hamm certainly drives the series but the rest of the supporting cast have their own storylines and carry their own weight.

As great as the Draper character is, John Slattery's portrayal of his Boss, "Roger Sterling", steals almost every scene he's in. I'm convinced he'll be your favorite character by the end of the series.

Top ten all time show. AMC has a number of them along with Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, and Halt and Catch Fire (quite possibly my favorite of the bunch).

I’d put Mad Men in my Top 5; so compelling without any violence (except for a lone riding lawn mower incident). One of the reasons I enjoy Fletch Lives! so much is the reunion of Hamm and Slattery.

well what'd ya think of the ending?

Saved it all and binged once it was all out. Won't spoiler it in a reply just in case you haven't watched, but generally did find 1st half>2nd half for the last season
Just finished last night-for reasons that aren't all that interesting, it took awhile for my and my wife's viewing schedules to align.

I would agree with you regarding Part 1 > Part 2. (HUGE SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T YET WATCHED) When the storyline was focused upon killing Henry/Vecna and the Mind Flayer, it was excellent and compelling. As soon as it diverged into the wrapping up of all the personal storylines, it got pretty trite. The last half hour or so was a huge adrenaline comedown from the conquering of Vecna/Mind Flayer. In fact, I was gearing up for a showdown between Eleven and the crew against Linda Hamilton's government agency, so that was quite a comedown. Overall, I thought the series finished strong, but. . .it could have been better.

Tracks almost exactly with what I thought. They got too far pulled apart trying to make everyone have an emotional “thing” which felt like it greatly distracted and wound up leaving some pretty big plot holes (amongst them murdering a ton of government people and having zero repercussions)

What a picture.

One of the most lasting images of my childhood was watching M*A*S*H with my Dad, who also served in the Korean War. I know every episode by heart probably.

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but I don't keep up on this thread all the time. Anyway, started "Task" on HBO MAX with Mark Ruffalo leading an FBI drug task force. Really good. Have watched the first 4 of 7 episodes. May finish tonight.
I'm surprised more mention hasn't been made of Task on here. I finished last week, with the last three episodes in one sitting. It ranks really high on the list of best TV shows I've watched, and for limited series, maybe #1 all-time. Ruffalo is such an outstanding actor and the combination of suspense/action/drama/personal introspection was so well done.

That's incredibly sweet.

Just watched Untamed on Netflix with Eric Bana and Sam Neill. 7 or 8 out of ten. Only 4 or 5 hours over 6 episodes so pretty easy watch.
Good acting and pretty interesting story.
There is going to be a season 2.

I've been watching the new Disney + show, Wonder Man, over the last few days. I'm about half way through and it is unlike any other Marvel show so far. If you are looking for the typical origin story and displays of superpowers, this is not the show for you. It is really just a deep dive into the lives of 2 actors played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley with a little intrigue on the side. I'm not certain where it is going but the acting has been solid so far.

Prime has a great doc-series on the ABA. Highly recommend it. Great Dr.J footage. Soul Power: The Legend of the American Basketball Association. My favorite "meeting a famous person" has easily been meeting Dr.J and this series solidified that.

Loved Connie Hawkins, aka "The Hawk". Minnesota Pipers team song was memorable!

Thanks for the recommendation - digging it.

Wasn’t familiar with all the craziness and innovations the ABA unleashed at the time, although my older brother had their basketball and I knew about the Dr.J. I have one episode left.

Would welcome hearing your story about the only Dr., better than Johnny Fever.

Knight of Seven Kingdoms: Meh
Like Water for Chocolate (in Spanish): Fun
One Hundred Years of Solitude (in Spanish): Enthralling
Succession: Great
True Detective Season 3: Meh
Motorvalley: Absolutely ridiculously bad so far but kind of fun mindless TV if you like cars

I attended the Mychal Thompson basketball camp back in the 80's. Out of the numerous guests, Dr. J was the A-lister for sure.

He played a camper one on one. The kid scored on a jumper right away. He didn't get more than one shot off the rest of the game.

I got a pic with the Doctor and shook his hand. I was wearing my 76ers sweatshirt...he noticed. They were my team until the Wolves came to be.

I remember two things really well from that camp. Dr. J. and the smell of the place. One great memory and one not so great.

Great experience.

Did his hand just engulf yours?

I can’t palm a soccer ball, so I’m always fascinated by massive hands🤷‍♂️

I just zipped through the last season finally. I would agree, overall I liked the last season but wasn't a big fan of the last episode for a number of reasons. Lots of plot holes and silliness IMO.

I finally finished Task last night. I thought that it was extremely well done. The two main characters, played by Tom Pelphrey and Mark Ruffalo, were fantastic and the rest of the cast was great!

Task was good but definitely not in the best ever discussion and with a second season coming they will have to keep it up/improve.
