Disney+ just released a new 9-minute preview of the "Andor" series. It's getting pretty good buzz from people who have seen it.

for the non-Star Wars people, this is sort of a prequel to "Rogue One." it tells the back-story of how Cassian Andor became a leader in the Rebel Alliance. the show begins 5 years before the events of "Rogue One."

interesting technical note - they apparently did not shoot this one on the "volume" stage, as other Disney shows have been done, including "The Mandalorian". as a result, it looks more "cinematic" from what I've heard.

Finished Barry Season 3 and I thought it was just flat out fantastic from the beginning to the finale last night. The last 2 episodes were incredibly dark, with very little humor.

I do not want to spoil it, but I do think it will be difficult going forward. For me such a draw was the comedy aspect with Barry being in the Hollywood acting world. That's just not an option anymore, nor has it been for the last few episodes. The writers though have been adept at morphing the show as it goes along, so I am still up for the ride for at least a Season 4.

Lastly, the finale highlight was Gene Cousineau gave the acting performance of his life, which depended on it. Just hand Henry Winkler the Emmy now.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...I think that BCS was a better show than Breaking Bad. But you're really splitting hairs as they are both top notch.

Just watched the final episode last night. Loved the series a lot. Like more than a lot... But, I was a bit underwhelmed by the finale. I get why they had him do what he did, but I was hoping for a few more fireworks so-to-speak.
 


Has anyone watched this War of the Worlds series out of the UK? Obviously very loosely based on the book it appears. I came across it at random, the premise seems interesting to me but the reviews are mixed.

I just re-read the original novel by H.G. Wells. The thing about the book is that it's not very "cinematic." the novel mostly follows one person, who is not very heroic. there's no love interest, and much of the 'action' is described second-hand. that's why every adaptation has added more characters and expanded the story. if you just filmed the book, I think most audiences would not be interested. The Tom Cruise version did take several elements from the book, but still threw in a lot of new characters and situations.

I enjoyed the Tom Cruise movie. This series I posted about appears to be quite a bit different than the book or any of the movies.

Agree. I liked the original movie better than the book. I can think of a few more movies that went further than the novels did.

Had to do the same with the TV adaptation of 'Foundation'......which imo......didn't turn out very well.
 




While watching Rings of Power, these Orcs have trouble with sunlight. Was that also the case in the trilogy? Can’t recall that.
 


So, I watched the first 3 episodes of the "Andor" series on Disney+.

This is set in the Star Wars universe as a prequel to "Rogue One," telling the back-story of how Cassian Andor became a leader in the rebellion.

for hard-core Star Wars fans, the first episode takes place BBY-5. (that is 5 years before the Battle of Yavin.....aka the battle where Luke blew up the Death Star).

Interesting show. more of a suspense or espionage drama as opposed to space opera. not a ton of action early, but that picks up in the 3rd episode. a lot of back-story on Andor's childhood and his role as a smuggler/dealer in black-market equipment.

the show has been confirmed for two seasons of 12 episodes each. each season will be divided into blocks of 3 episodes. after dropping 3 episodes in the first week, the show will go into a weekly release pattern.
 

What ever happened to Mando?? That was actually a good show.

And the guy who is Mando, is the guy from Game of Thrones who played the Red Viper from Dorne (the guy who kills the Mountain, but then ... well, you gotta see it!)

There will be a season 3 of "The Mandalorian." episodes start in February of 2023.
 

New show on AMC starting next Sunday, Oct 2 - "Interview with the Vampire."

this is based on the Ann Rice novel. AMC has purchased the rights to all of her work.

Being bored, I watched a 40-minute 'featurette' about the making of the show. It looks promising.

The cast is largely unknowns (for an American audience) but they seem better-suited for the parts than that gawd-awful Tom Cruise movie.

apparently there will be a few differences from the book, but from what I saw, it looks like they are trying to capture the general tone of the book. lot of attention to detail in the sets, costumes, etc.

might be worth checking out.
 




watched 1st episode of "Interview with the Vampire."

I liked it. I thought it mostly hit the right tone for the material.

Several changes made from the book, but those changes added some different elements to the story, so I'm OK with it. generally well-acted. great use of sets, costumes and music to set the scene.

saved the 'blood and gore' stuff until late in the episode, but there were a few "holy bleep" moments.

one note: Rae Dawn Chong plays the mother of a main character. Had no idea it was her until I saw the credits. she's a long way from "Quest for Fire."
 

Has anyone seen "The Greatest Beer Run Ever"?

Didn't know much about it until reading a recent review; true story, sounds like a good feel-good movie, I think I may try to check it out in the next 5-7 days, since there doesn't seem to be much else out that interests me at the moment.

Not yet but plan to. I believe it's on Apple TV+.
 

Has anyone watched Reservation Dogs? I've watched the first couple episodes and like it so far. I believe it's the first show from a major network with a cast and crew that's primarily Native. It's part comedy, part crime drama, and part coming-of-age story. My favorite line so far is when the group is first called Reservation Dogs, the one kids asks, "Can I be Mr. Camouflage?" :LOL:
