All Things TV Series Recommendations/Reviews

Best opinion show on FoxNews is the new one by Tucker Carlson in my opinion (two weeks ago he took over the 6:00 slot). The guy below is the latest in quite a few guests who've been skewered. I'm guessing word will get out to stay off his show:

Love this promo - in large part because Curb is coming back and Silicon Valley is a great show:

Go Gophers!!

I just checked out The Magicians on Netflix. I like the world they created in season 1. I am interested to see how it flushes out.

That must mean you are smart and have good taste.

I really hope it gets picked up for another season. Many of the good ones don't.

after watching the first episode, i thought it was kinda boring. what is smart about it? you called it a sitcom (which i disagree with), what is the funniest joke from the show so far?

i'd be willing to change my opinion, i like donald glover. just thought is was navel-gazing like all postmodern television and art in general.

don't know if it's been brought up yet, but amazon has a show called mad dogs that i thought showed potential. wondering when the next season is going to come out.

Why Mad Dogs Is Ending On Amazon

don't know if it's been brought up yet, but amazon has a show called mad dogs that i thought showed potential. wondering when the next season is going to come out.

The Shield’s Shawn Ryan acted as an executive producer on Amazon’s Mad Dogs, and following the cancellation news from Amazon, Ryan took to Twitter to discuss exactly why the show won’t be getting a second season. Here’s part of what he had to say in a flurry of tweets:

"Mad Dogs was originally intended to be a closed 10 episode limited series. Many critics pointed out that this wasn’t the kind of concept destined for an extended multi-season run, and that’s right. But in order to get Season 1 made Amazon wanted to know that future seasons might be possible. Cris Cole and I said we thought there could be but we should have that conversation on if and how after the season was over. We had that conversation on Thursday with Roy Price and company. Cris and I laid out a story for Season 2 we believed in. Ultimately, Amazon didn’t want to make that story and we didn’t want to make the kind of story they wanted us to make. It made more sense to declare victory after ten episodes, which was our original plan all along anyway."

Recently reupped my Netflix, absolutely loved Stranger Things and to a slightly lesser extent, the Crown. About to give Black Mirror a try, have heard good things.

huh. if i remember correctly, it didn't end with any sort of resolution. i seem to remember it was based on a british show. maybe i will look that up and see if i get any answers.

Some tid-bits on the upcoming Season 9 of Curb!

Go Larry David!!

Got around to watching Goliath on Amazon. Legal drama, with a bunch of twists - Billy Bob Thornton is pretty damn good in it. Worth a watch IMO.

Black Mirror is top notch, a modern day Twilight Zone. Season 3 was probably the best! I liked Goliath also one of the few "Gems" for Amazon.

Welcome to the world of the new sitcom. Not everything needs to have the classic set-up and punch. Shows like Louie, Better Things, Love, etc. are taking over the medium. You don't have to like it, but that is the way things are going more than not.

Anyone else watch Peaky Blinders? We're on to the second season via Netflix. Really enjoyed the first season. Not such the second yet. Getting a bit hokey. Hopefully they refocus.

Recently wrapped up Season 4 of Sherlock. One of my all time favorite shows. But Season 4 left me disappointed. I thought it lacked the "fun" of prior seasons. Much darker without the relief. Did not like the final episode. I thought they could have done much better with that story line.

Completely agree. Seasons 1-3 were all about unraveling complex - but believable - mysteries, with fun twists and turns along the way. Season 4 just started to stray too far into "sci-fi/fantasy" world, particularly with the last episode. Also, I miss Andrew Scott as a real, live character - he is too damn good as Moriarty.

Yikes! Eager to start jumping into the new season of "Homeland" on Shotime and WOW. Has it always been this horrendously left-leaning and I haven't noticed it or is this something new? Kind of looks like they made some assumptions on the outcome of the election as well; the president-elect to start the season is a woman, plenty of plot involving profiling and targeting of mid-east islamic people in the US, several mentions of those terrible drone strikes, etc.

Whether it's always been there or it's something new this season, it's dripping with lefty bias

Just recently started watching Narcos. I was binge watching it until the baby came last weekend. Will hopefully pick it back up soon.

Has anyone given Baskets a shot? It's a very dark, slow moving, odd, comedy with Zach Galifianakis. Louie Anderson as his mom is brilliant.

I was pissed in appropriately when I thought they jumped the shark and made Moriarity alive again. I was happy to know it was another twist of someone predicting what would happen in the future. I also felt the darkness of the sister was rushed / random set up. Having just another bad guy is one thing but I think they needed more time to set up the sister.

You buried the lead behind Narcos! Congrats!!! I hope everyone is doing well.

Yeah, I miss Moriarty too. Awesome villian. But I did think it clever in how they brought him back. As for unraveling mysteries, the first seasons did a good job of logically connecting all the dots. I thought this season they got lazy with the twists. The final episode didn't really make any sense. Hopefully that's not the end of the entire series. It deserves a better resolution.

One thing I did like was how Mycroft said he dropped little hints about the sister to Sherlock, like when he said an east wind is coming last season. It would be interesting to rewatch the early seasons if they had this plot line all along and catch some of those hints.

Anyone still watching Suits? The show has become dark and trite. They don't even get involved in cases any more and the story lines are awful.

This is Season 6 (which included the July season six season with Mike in jail which was awful). This further underscores my opinion that the best drama series end after season 5.

Go Rachel Zane (who is likely going to marry Prince Harry)!!

Ha, thanks! It's been a wild adventure the past week+. But it has been awesome.
