In honor of the 71st birthday of Mr. Bruce Springsteen:

my top 5 personal favorite Springsteen concerts that I have attended:
1. St. Paul Civic Center Nov '78. Darkness on the Edge of Town tour.
Scalped tickets in the main floor front row! no more needs to be said.
2. Rosemount Horizon, Chicago, July '84 - Born in the USA Tour
3. Northrup Auditorum, U of M - Oct 3, '96 'Devils & Dust' solo tour. great acoustics.
4. St. Paul Civic Center - Oct 13, '80 - The River tour. close to a 4-hour show.
5. Met Center, Bloomington - June 10, '78. Darkness tour - my 1st Springsteen show.

and yes - I saw Bruce in concert in '92 with 'the other band.' Not a terrible show, but not the same as the full E Street Band experience. they did do a great version of "Light of Day."

new album with the E Street Band coming out in October. recorded mostly live in the studio with limited overdubs. Rolling Stone calls it a return to the classic E Street sound. Steve Van Zandt said most fun they've had in the studio in years. Bruce is also reportedly going through the archives to do a sequel to the "Tracks" box set, and apparently has another project already recorded. the guy is not slowing down. Hoping to do a full tour with the E Street band as soon as possible - but due to covid, probably late 2021 or 2022.

My "Time Machine" games -

Babe Ruth calls his shot against the Cubs
The Merkle Boner - Cubs vs Giants to decide 1908 pennant
Any game with the Minneapolis Lakers during Mikan's prime. (and say hello to GM Sid Hartman...)
A negro league game with Satchel Paige pitching to Josh Gibson
for #5 - a football game with one of the all-time greats - maybe Red Grange, Jim Thorpe or Bronko Nagurski.

Great call on all of those. Wish I had thought of George Mikan. They played the Globetrotters in 1948 at Chicago Stadium, that sounds like a dandy.

Top 5 Bands/Musical Acts That Deserve a Spot in Rock & Roll HOF (but probably won't get it):
1. Los Lobos
2. Old '97s
3. Little Feat
4. Wilco
5. Steve Earle

I can see Jeff Tweedy getting in, whether Wilco or not.

Wilco might when they call it quits.
Just checked, Wilco should be eligible either this year or next, as it’s been 25 years since AM was released; of course, Uncle Tupelo is eligible now. I would be very surprised to see Tweedy or either of the bands receiving the nod, given the lack of chart success. More likely to see Brittney Spears before them, I reckon 😐

Younger fans who have never heard Little Feat should check them out - maybe look for some stuff on YouTube. Lowell George was a great songwriter and when the Feat were cooking, they could really get into a groove. They were a "jam band" before that term was invented.

If you want a great into to the band, try to find their live album "Waiting for Columbus." Ideally the long version that includes "Don't Bogart that Joint."

I have no idea if it was the original lineup, but I saw Little Feat open for the Allman Brothers many years ago. I remember being surprised at how many songs I recognized.

Please don't use the phrase "they call it quits" and "Wilco" in the same sentence. 2020 has been rough enough already.

I just got back from PHX for that Cardinals-Buffalo game. Holy shit!!! Murray is not just an electric exceptional athlete, he's going to be a great QB. Wow. I was THIS close to leaving the game early because I have to drive 4 hours back to Vegas but what a frickin' ending!!! Funny thing was, it was sometime in the 3rd quarter that I was thinking how much I had missed being in the stadium, at the game, enjoying live sports.

I'm a big Josh Allen fan too, pulling like heck for him to prove the doubters wrong and he looks really really good also. He's a large man playing QB.

5 favorite George songs:

1. Here Comes the Sun
2. What is Life?
3. If I Needed Someone
4. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
5. I Need You

I think I underrated #2.

I assume you don't care for hockey. Any hockey fan younger than about 55 has to have Bobby Orr at the top of this list. I would have Jackie Robinson on my list as well

I am in my early 50s so my memories of Orr in his prime are faint, but as a mite he and JP Parise were my 2 favorite players. I was supposed to see him as a Blackhawk, but he was injured.

I dig this Larry Bird video of how he got fired up during the anthem at Boston Garden:

Speaking of Larry Bird, I just saw this snippet of an interview from Shawn Kemp the other day on Twitter. I hated Bird when I was a kid (I was a Lakers fan back then), but my appreciation for him in all forms continues to grow:

I hated him so much being a 76ers fan and all. Any player (McHale included) that went to the Celtics became my sports enemy on the spot. Mostly because of Bird. He was just so good. Once he retired I stopped caring about hating the Celtics.

We were out in Las Vegas for March Madness. Not sure when. We are out there 4 times for the Tourney between '05 and '13.

Saturday of the opening week, we were heading to the Monte Carlo to watch. Walking past NYNY, right in front of the ESPN Zone, behind a fenced-off section, there was a band playing in front of a handful of people. Stopped for a second, then told the other guys "That's Los Lobos!" One of the guitarists looked over and smiled.

The other guys told me that we had to go. Told them to sit in the Lounge and I'd catch-up.
