All Things Royce White Thread UPDATED 10/25: Royce cut by 76ers

'boots on the gound' speaking: he's a true freshman.

So you're saying he has no game experience? Why not just say that, since you know that's the right thing to say. And why even say "true" since redshirt freshman don't play in games.

He's not even a freshman experience-wise is he? At minimum he's a redshirt freshman isn't he, since he did redshirt last year. He's not a true freshman though, and I think there is a big difference when you're practicing out there and all that, versus a kid just out of high school walking onto campus and then immediately playing games.

some redshirt freshman see the field/court.. RW has seen neither..

agree.
but i tried to on post 176:

experience wise..

( really there is no other way to evaluate.. )

but then came the English Majors...

Iowa State is beating Kansas 17-7 aft 5 minutes and Royce White opened the game by draining a 3. This is my first time ever watching Royce play and I'm disappointed on how everything worked out for him in Minnesota.

43-40

Iowa State leads Kansas at the half. They were up 9 when Royce picked up his second foul with 4 minutes to play in the half. He sat those 4 minutes. 10 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks. He's a man amongst boys, even in Allen Fieldhouse. Only negative...he's 1-4 from the line.

Where will get drafted gold? Considering he's not even on any list for second round either.

He hasn't played basketball for two years. I never said he would this year. If you don't think he'd be the best player on this team you're kidding yourself.

He's played, he practiced all last season... the rust is off. I was asking if he is such a beast why isn't currently considered at top 60 player/draft pick right now? I thought he would be on a mock draft by now.

Don't put words into my mouth, I never mentioned anything about that topic. I simply asked where you thought he would be drafted this year... so your answer was he won't get drafted this year, but next year he will?

To put it in perspective for you, Michael Jordan's trainer said Royce is a future star.

He did wonders for Ralph this season! NOT.

I would have thought Royce would be a top 20 pick next year, despite good numbers, it's looking like he is a stretch to get picked in the second.

Why because the mock drafts don't have him there? This guy is a first round pick no matter when he declares. If he goes undrafted, who ever picks him up would get the biggest steal I can think of.

Talent wise, yes. I'm sure people will question his maturity though. Could hurt the draft stock.

Well if DeMarcus Cousins can go 4th or 5th overall (don't remember which) I don't think White would be hurt that much.

Royce is pretty charismatic from what I understand. Wouldn't surprise me if he can convince some teams in interviews that he's mature enough.

Cousins was always considered top 3 NBA draft talent, Royce is not even close. No comparison.

Actually, Cousins wasn't in a Top 3 pick in any single mock draft I saw...always 5-10.

*There are 4 links in the above sentence all having him go 5-10.

Your point none withstanding, I still think Royce averaging a double double in the Big 12 without playing a single second of college ball prior to this season will put him in the first round (and if he doesn't come out this year, his #'s will likely be much better next year).

Too much talent & upside (strength, rebounding, handles for his size, post-moves, etc.) not to.

Early to mid season I saw him higher. Same point, projected 5-7 pick vs not even projected to go in the second round. If he thinks he will go in the 1st he will declare.

He's a poor mans Kris Hump.

We got a new roommate in our apartment over the past few weeks. He went to school with Royce and was in his same class. Apparently he was pretty much bigger than life in high school and got away with whatever he wanted (not a surprise). Hardly went to class, but was awarded with good grades regardless.

This is very illuminating.

Glad to see Royce is overcoming this debilitating condition. I think he's a decent young man that HAD to leave his home town to grow as a man. It was the best for all involved. Good luck to Royce in pursuit of his dreams.
