Figured with the dominoes starting to fall that we should consolidate into one thread, I imagine we'll see a decent amount of news around this in the next few weeks.

Current Big Ten Players who have opted out:
Rashod Bateman
Rondale Moore
Micah Parsons

Opted out, it sounds really nice and noble, like these guys are doing something great, breaking ground, serving humanity.

I like to refer to it more factually as . . . Quit school, signed with an agent, and their college football careers are over. They gone, I think that's more accurate.

Bro, you keep talking sh*t, like NDSU is so high and mighty. When the Big Sky cancels their fall sports season - as is expected soon - FCS is screwed. What's your boy Trey gonna do then?

Do you think the NCAA will grant him a waiver when he transfers?

If it's to a CFP contender, sure.

But if he is trying to transfer to an FBS program, that seemingly would have to happen very quick. It's not like QB could just walk in with a week's notice and become a P5 starter with so little knowledge of the system/playbook.

I'm more interested to see how Trey handles it if his fall season consists of conference-only games with no shot at a national title. Or more likely, when FCS moves to a spring season, how much loyalty he has to the Bison, with the draft so close.

NDSU is one of a handful of schools in their sub-division to make a reasonable amount of revenue on football, relative to what they spend on it.

I suspect they will try to cobble together a schedule, somehow, no matter what.

Where will their revenue come from this year?

Mich State losing another player - starting OL is opting out. Now down their one returning starting DL and a starting OL.

Assuming we don’t lose any more players, we should be able to handle Michigan State just fine.

I'm talking about players quitting (excuse me) Opting Out of their schools and football teams. What are you blathering about . . . certainly nothing that pertains to the subject or anything that I said.

Is this the point that I'm suppose to start hating on journalists (and wow would that be easy to do), because you are a "Writer"? Even though that would also have nothing to do with the topic?

The point is that Bateman is just at the front of the pack. There have been and will be more to come and the chances of a full season even taking place are slimmer each day. So, when a person has pre-existing conditions (Bateman with asthma) and also stands to make millions if he is healthy come spring 2021, it seems like a smart move to take inventory of one's health and future. I don't see it as "quitting" at all. And neither does his coach or teammates. They all understand and would make the same decision if they had his set of circumstances. He is an INDIVIDUAL taking some control of his future in a time period where many lack any control at all.

Here is an analogy. Let's say a star law student is going into their last year of school. They just finished an amazing summer internship and have been guaranteed a very high paying job with one of the best firms in America. The law school is giving students the option to finish online or attend in-person classes. One of their final courses is one where they are supposed to work in a group the whole semester and there is a lot of in-person interaction. But said star law student has asthma and is uncertain what safety precautions will look like on campus - and also whether they will even be able to have a full semester in person. Would the person go to campus and take on the added risk of COVID exposure for in-person interaction even though they already have a job secured and there isn't anything that will happen this semester to improve that position? Or would they stay home and finish the course online and spend extra time studying for the bar exam to make sure they pass it the first time?

I'd say - and I think many others would as well - that it's a no-brainer for most people, not to mention those with health concerns.

Per CBSSports

Maryland coach Mike Locksley announced that six players, including starting quarterback Josh Jackson, were sitting out in the fall.

Speaking with media members on Friday, Locksley confirmed that Jackson, defensive lineman Jalen Alexander, defensive back Vincent Flythe, linebacker TJ Kautai and offensive linemen Austin Fontaine and Johnny Jordan were all opting out. Jackson, Jordan and Fontaine were starters in 2019, with Jackson getting nine starts in 10 games after transferring from Virginia Tech. Fontaine appeared in all 12 games with six starts and Jordan has 12 career starts at center over the last two seasons.

Oh no! But they "quit" on their team and university! The horror. How could they be so selfish to think of their own health and futures as opposed to the team's success in a season that may not even take place? /s

Maryland is toast if there are actually games played. They will be the Rutgers of 2020.

They are opting out for various reasons, not just to go to the NFL.

Interesting so many from Maryland. IF there is a season the bubble-type NFL prospects and/or underclassmen planning to return in 2021 may find themselves Wally Pipped. For some this will be a calculated risk, and without any announced testing regimen in place to protect them at practice and games it’s hard to blame them too much particularly those with underlying conditions or obesity ie offensive linemen.

The reality is probably this: they will encounter the virus anyway unless they socially isolate. That said, not going to rag on them too hard. There are many voices in their ears.

Fleck said tonight he could't say who would opt out or not, but would support all of them.
