All Things Pitino rumor mill thread

Everyone remember, Rick did say that Richard said, "I could just die here." A. I hope that means he wants to die here of old age NOT B. Meaning He'll die if he stays.

From the original USA Today article:

Some names the Vols will consider:

Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall
Virginia Commonwealth coach Shaka Smart (because there's never a coaching vacancy without his name attached)
Southern Mississippi coach Donnie Tyndall
Former UCLA coach Ben Howland
Xavier coach Chris Mack
Colorado coach Tad Boyle
Dayton coach Archie Miller
Belmont coach Rick Byrd
Louisiana Tech coach Michael White
Minnesota coach Richard Pitino.
Duke assistant Jeff Capel

Go Gophers!!

Why isn't Tony Dungy on the list?

Someone check if Pitino is at the Vu! Or riding a roller coaster at MOA! Have we seen him and NT together lately? Maybe wearing a Gophers shirt? PLANE TRACKING!!!!

They'd probably just sneak him on a FedEx plane to avoid suspicion....

Rick wanted Richard to stay at L'ville for the next 5-7 years. Learn the job and then take over when Rick retires. Their AD loves Richard, but Richard said "no," he wanted to go out on his own and develop his own program. Well, Richard is doing exactly what he wants to do, and when Rick retires in 5-7 years, what are the chances that Richard bolts for L'ville? I just can't see Richard leaving for at least 5 years and hope he never leaves, but unless the U gets the practice facility completed in the next 3 years, I feel sure Richard will be gone with the wind.

Richard won't be able to go. By then the Gophers will have a better program than Louisville. No brainer to stay a build a Woodenesque dynasty. :)

Wait, I thought Sid said it was a done deal!

Not sure, maybe Sid was referring to the new heated turf in TCF Stadium. Someone should be stationed outside Murrays. Nothing going to happen till that Silver Butterknife Steak is eaten.

As you all know, Goodman is very legit and as good of a college basketball news source as there is:

I'd expect Richard to be on the list for every major conference opening going forward. Doesn't mean he's going to take the job though. Goodman was among the first people to report Marquette was going after Shaka too.

There's no doubt Tennessee is interested. The big question right now is does Richard feel the same way?

I'm sure lots of teams will be interested in Pitino and what really matters is if the interest is mutual and in this case I just really can't see it.

I know this makes some people feel insecure and fearful, but this makes me feel pretty good about things. It's validation that the U made a good decision last April and that people outside this state are seeing the same things we (at least most of us) are seeing.

No, he wouldn't. Coach P. hasn't accomplished anything which would enable him to hold a B1G program hostage.

Howiemoron making ****e up again; Teague would bump Pitino's comp without a question

For what it is worth on kfan Norwood said he guarantees pitino will be here next year

Am I missing something here?

Zero chance he even considers leaving for UT. It will be 3-4 years if he keeps winning before he legitimately considers going elsewhere. He truly believes that he can win a national championship here and he isn't just saying that. He not only told Rick "i could just die here" but Rick was also talking about how much he constantly brags about the barn and how great of a home court it is and that we are the only D1 school in the state etc. but that isn't in front of the media. That is with private conversations with Rick and he truly does believe he can do great things here. I'm not worried about him leaving in the slightest.

The world needs fewer coaches and more proctologists!!!

Would guess we do end up seeing some kind of statement from Pitino.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Pitino was asked if he wanted to put out statement to debunk talk. Didn't want to draw any attention. But maybe that changes w/ ESPN report.</p>— Darren Wolfson (@DarrenWolfson) <a href="https://twitter.com/DarrenWolfson/statuses/456554003803799554">April 16, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Would Tennessee hire Pitino? I believe not but showing interest helps both sides. It gets UT some pub and gets Pitino some pub (and maybe a raise).

I think Tennessee fans would be very disappointed (initially- long term who knows) with a Pitino hire. One year and no NCAA will not buy much. Get to Sweet 16 next year and we have an issue.

Crap, if Doogie says he's not going, it's when I start worrying.
