All Things Minnesota Timberwolves 2022-2023 In-Season Thread

You hear from me when they give no effort and don't give a crap in the world about defense, then you will hear from me. That happens way too often.

Generally we hear from you only when they lose. Though occasionally we'll hear from you when they win so you can whine about how they should have won by more.

But you're not a troll huh?

As I said, picking them to win is a good move for you. If they lose you can come and whine about how "they should have won!" And if they win you can say "I called it!"

Oh and if you don't want a response quit asking for one.

The Wolves without Towns and without two dependable ball handlers, neither of them being Russell, this is not a good or talented team. That bench isn't deep or very good. Most people agreed with that after the trade. From what we've seen no reason to change that opinion.

If they beat Cleveland, Utah or Denver they will all be upsets.

Towns is suppose to be out another 2-3 weeks. As will McLaughlin.

You ignore me, and I'll ignore you. Problem solved.

Also, I do hope Ant, Gobert, etc........all expect to win tonight.

And now Gobert is hurt with a groin injury.
It makes you wonder as he goes out and off they go.

It's so fun when they hustle and play hard.

Garza is limited, but it seems like he should play more. He's so intense that it just seems to rub off.

Hardly any DLO for the defensive run in the second half.

DLo went out with 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and he never saw the floor again. Great team defense all night. Best win of the season and 3 of the "stars" had nothing to do with it.

Yep, Nowell had to stay in. As good as he was though, he can be just the opposite.

Mitchell could hardly breathe tonight as no matter who they put on him was hustling and moving their feet. They were also switching and forcing him to do make difficult shots.

What a win.
Now on to the next game.........Kill Anything in Front of Me

Also, an unreal stat from tonight's game......the wolves went from 77 points to 104 points without missing a shot. That's sick!

Wolves were out rebounded, hit one less 3 and had 15 free throws to Cleveland's 23. But they had fewer turnovers, twice as many steals and outshot the Cav's 56.3% to 48.7%.

Except for Prince going 2 for 7, all 9 other Timberwolves shot 50% or better.

Rudy Gobert spent the second half of Saturday's game on the bench, out of action with right groin soreness. Jaden McDaniels was limited by foul trouble much of the night. The Timberwolves were playing Cleveland, one of the Eastern Conference's best teams, on the second half of a back-to-back.

None of that mattered.

Getting 26 points from Anthony Edwards, 17 from Naz Reid and 16 from Jaylen Nowell, holding Cavs star Donovan Mitchell in check, the Wolves dug deep into their rotation, winning 110-102 at Target Center.

The win – their second straight and sixth in seven games - evened Minnesota's record at 22-22. The Cavs, playing the final game of their five-game road trip, went home 27-17.

In one of their most impressive stretches of the season, the Wolves went from down 14 with 8:23 left in the third quarter to up 11 on Reid's dunk with 5:13 left in the game. That's a 48-23 run over 15½ minutes, completely taking control of the game. The lead eventually grew to 13..

3 of the next 5 are at home, all winnable........Utah, Toronto, Houston

The two road games are at Houston, and at Denver, whom we've played well.

There is a chance to make some hay coming up.

Also, currently 6th in the west.

The view from Cleveland:

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Cleveland Cavaliers still haven’t figured out the winning road formula.

Despite leading by a game-high 14 points early in the second half, the exhausted, road-weary Cavs capped their five-game cross-country road trip with a 110-102 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Cleveland went 2-3 on this roadie.

Cavs coach J.B. Bickerstaff spoke before the game about Saturday night being more of a mental challenge. Fifth city in 10 days. Third different time zone. The final stop before heading home..

Twelve minutes stood between them and their first winning road trip.

But the Cavs couldn’t muster the energy and finish. Cleveland lost its lead early in the fourth quarter and didn’t have another rally in it, getting outscored 33-22 in the decisive fourth.

Star guard Donovan Mitchell, who missed shootaround Saturday morning because of an illness, had an uncharacteristic off night. Mitchell finished with just 14 points on 5 of 16 from the field and 2 of 9 from 3-point range.

Cleveland’s bigs -- Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley -- tried to pick up the slack. Each scored 19 points. Point guard Darius Garland added 15 points and four assists. Caris LeVert chipped in with 12 off the bench.

But it wasn’t enough against the feisty Wolves, who forced 18 turnovers and turned those mistakes into 28 points the other way..

Per Shooter:

—Intriguing: Timberwolf Karl-Anthony Towns, 27, is from New Jersey, is under contract for $62 million in 2027, and the Knicks own nine future first-round draft picks.

Howl Wolves!!

Someone needs to tell Charley that Thibodeau still works there.;)

That’s seems hard to repeat game in and game out.

Wolves (22-22) host Utah(22-24) today at 3:00. Wednesday night game out in Denver will be on ESPN at 9:00.

Prince, Edwards and Gobert all are questionable for the game and Towns and McLaughlin are out.

For Utah Rudy Gay & Lauri Markkanen are questionable and Kelly Olynyk is out.

This year the Wolves have won 6 out of 7 and the Jazz are 3 of 7.

Edit: Prince, Edwards and Gobert are all playing for he Wolves. Rudy Gay is playing for Utah but Lauri Markkanen is not.

Walker Kessler with 20 and 21 so far in 31 minutes.

Gobert with 2 and 1 in 5 minutes.

Why can’t the twolves ever have good young players?

Good look at the buzzer, but it's a loss and a re-aggravation of the old groin injury for Rudy.

Peterson said it during the broadcast. They just couldn't stop ball penetration in the 4th quarter. They just go by our perimeter defenders at will. 39 points in the 4th for the Jazz. So many at the rim.

And we lose by 1 point and continue, and I mean continue to argue with officials and get technicals.

That was a brutal loss. Just brutal.

The Rudy Gobert trade has the potential of the worst trade in NBA history.

10 players for one player. It's early, but it looks like an awful deal.

They would not trade Walker for Gobert straight up. OUCH

Granted the salaries wouldn't allow it, but you get my drift.

Had Flip still been with the Wolves, he never would have made the Jimmy Butler for Zach Levine, Kris Dunn and the 7th pick in the draft, which became Lauri Markkanen.
That was another trade that really hurt the Wolves.

Only because the other players didn’t want to work as much as butler. And the wolves didn’t want to pay Jimmy. Had the wolves moved on from KAT and Wiggins and kept butler they would be in a much better place.

Disagree. Butler says all the right things about working hard and wanting to win but the most important thing to him is running the show. The more yes men the better. That is when he's happy and he plays.

He's played more that 70 games in a season twice in his career. Same number of times he's reached a Conference Finals.

If it was all about lack of work ethic here then why did Philadelphia let Butler leave so easily? Butler wanted to run Embid and Tobias Harris out of there. He got ticked off at P.J.Tucker for leaving Miami for a 3 year deal with Philly.

Nope Tom Thibodeau and Butler wrecked a promising Wolves team and the next General Managers haven't had a clue how to put it back together either.

Prior to Jimmy showing up, we had 13 straight seasons where we didn't make the playoffs. We were coming off a season where we were 20 games under .500. That team was not promising.

The team with Jimmy won 47 games, making it our 4th best season in franchise history. In fact, since we traded for Jimmy we have had 2 of our top 8 seasons in franchise history.

It's hard for me to say that trade wrecked anything.

Yep. Kessler is already better than Rudy in evey way.
