All Things Immaculate Grid-related (MLB, NBA, NFL)

Back to my post about nicknames, there's an MLB player listed on the Grid as: "The Only Nolan".

Nolan was expelled by Indianapolis on August 14 when he told the team he was going to a funeral but instead went drinking.

My kind of player.

Looks like he will work on a Pirates/Phillies combo.

A day late on the Twins Grid Alert.

New Player added was Derek Parks, who I was reminded of recently scanning former Twins 1st Round Draft picks.

All Twins today, for a solid low teens Rarity. Brian Harper added as a New Player.

Dead heat at 196 in my Waite Hoyt vs Ken Brett dual.

Brett has made up some solid ground as a #1 Draft Pick.

Big Ed Delahanty is on the bubble, I am not sure who is next on the list. Probably Doc Gooden.

I don't have such a race at the top, as Kirby outpaces Circle Me Bert at a 142 to 81 rate. My fight is trying to make the top line all former Twins-it's really hard to quit Gaylord Perry, but Rod Carew is just one spot from tying him. We share Mauer, Parker, Winfield on our big board. And I am a bit proud to have mid to late '70s Rangers rotation members Blyleven, Perry, Fergie Jenkins, and Doyle Alexander all on the big board. Them were some well traveled Hall of Famer's (and Hall of pretty good).

Doyle Alexander (used him today for Braves/Jays) I would guess is not much further behind Gooden for me. Molitor has to also be within striking distance.

The bonus payoff with Hoyt/K Brett is they are always fantastic for Rarity, hardly ever beyond 1% and usually .3% or better.

Because of the trick you shared regarding Kirby (played 2B, 3B, and SS, in addition to all the outfield positions), he always brings in a small score when I put him to use.

I'm guessing Tony O's close to making your big board too--he's #6 on my list (a good distance from Carew though) and he hits so many categories: HOF, .300 season and career, 200 hits, 100 RBI's, 30 HR's, Gold Glove, All-Star, ROY, one team, born overseas. You just have to be careful with the 2000 hits trap (he ended with 1917), which I've fallen into more than once, I believe. He also brings a tidy rarity score almost whenever I use him.

Indeed Tony O is a regular, especially on a Saturday when it's usually Stat/Accomplishment Categories only.

Add Preacher Roe to the players identified by nickname on Baseball Reference/IG.

Just be careful not to mix him up with Schoolboy Rowe, a mistake I have previously made.

Your guy Preacher scored pretty quality Rarity today.

In clicking on Schoolboy's Baseball reference page I noticed a Poppy flower graphic which which was cool, and assumed it was for Veteran's Day. Those that served in the military are being honored today with that "Easter egg".

Also note to self, Schoolboy has a gaudy +40 WAR.

Twins Alert on Grid today. New Players are Brye & Arozarena.

Probably should have thought harder on the LF / 1 team category. I am surprised K Brett got a full 1%. That's rare.

I was able to run all newbies through the Twins category, and a bonus too:
KC: Drew Butera
Pirates: Michael Restovich (pride of Rochester Mayo)
LF: Darin Mastroianni (not to be confused with Dustan Mohr)
1 Team, LF: JT Bruett

I spent some time looking over U of M alums in MLB a couple weeks ago, hence my knowledge on Bruett (Cole DeVries is also a solo Twin career).

Today is a Banner Grid Day for your boy, The Only Nolan. Redemption!

Added as a New Player along with Jose Morales & Moe Drabowsky. Moe is just one of 6 MLB Players to be born in Poland.

For Morales, I admit I just typed in "Jose" and tried to hunt down a Newbie who qualified. Score. Total Rarity = 3.

Seems dubious that the Valenzuela hack was still 0.4% in the Silver Slugger/OF category.
