All Things Gophers Coaching Search Thread (rumors, tweets, tid-bits and more)

I look at it this way. Before we had Fleck, we needed Kill to repair the damage caused by Brewster. This needs to be a Kill caliber hire, ie a mid major coach well known for running a solid program with solid fundamentals, before we go for the big name hire. There was a saying along the lines of "you can't build a foundation on a pile of sand." We're sitting on a pile of sand right now. We need to fix the program from the ground up and need a guy who's known for stability and accountability before we become a program who can draw a home run.
We had Claeys before Fleck and we're coming off a rape scandal and bowl game boycott with our best player (AWJr) wrongly accused.

Plenty of sand there. Hire the best coach, swing for the fences

Two points:
  • It's gotta kinda suck to be a Drake fan - they get great coaches and can't keep 'em. Of course if I were a Drake fan I could say, "it's gotta kinda suck to be a Gopher fan, they can't get great coaches and keep firing the ones they do hire")
  • Damian Johnson should be offered a slot on the new Gopher's coaching team. I have no idea if he'd take it, but he's certainly done well in the high school ranks of MN coaching and I think could help with local recruiting and his BB knowledge.

Why would Will Wade choose Minnesota over NC State? He's coached in the South basically his entire life and NC State is a great program.
We should already have a deal in place with Wade. But we don't

I hear you. Damian Johnson for head coach!

It does take a mutual interest to make something like this work. We can't abduct him at gunpoint and force him into a 5-year contract (I don't think).
Then I blame you for your lack of effort. Can’t hold anything back if you really want the guy.

Let's hire a high school coach directly to the Big Ten. He's one of us! Good Lord.

I could see them hiring an up and comer who would be cheap like Chris Crutchfield at Omaha if not Medved

Went to BSM’s regional semi-final game: they played relentlessly pressing the entire game. Damian is an engaged coach.

Imagine being both!!! But to be honest as a Drake fan I had no idea this season was even an option. So just win baby!
