So far from what has been posted on the board here, seems like the non-conference slate is going to be tougher than last season.
 


Well I do not know: Az tournament looks tough, then St Louis, Milwaukee, Mississippi, Vandy , Kent st, N Ill, SDSU, West Virginia, Gonzaga, New Mex St, Ill State, Creighton, St Thomas S Dakota st.NDSU.
 

Need a tough non-conference slate to get an at-large bid as a Big Ten team. I know we've been down and the NCAA tournament seems like a dream but I still believe in this program. Absolutely no reason why we shouldn't be towards the top of the Big Ten on a regular basis.

Anyone know score or any nuggets from the exhibition last night?
 

Pitchers: Novotny, Holetz, Rooney, klassen, Shepard, and Clausen
Lineup: c Hunt, 1b Bork, 2b Counsell, 3b Perry, DN Neels, cf, Bateman, rf Jurgella, lf Merila.
Score 8-2.
Perry 3 run HR in 1st. Klassen 3k's. Clausen 3 K's.

It used to be one of the better summer leagues out there probably like 10 or so years ago. Still a decent league, I think they get a lot of west coast kids.
 



This year’s recruiting class includes the son of JT Bruett, the grandson of Paul Giel and a player coached by Brent Gates. What’s with all the legacy recruits? Has this staff gotten to the point where they need to fall back on legacies to get guys after back-to-back awful seasons?

It seems this program has always had an affinity for sons/brothers/etc - i.e. the legacy recruits you mentioned. I don't follow high school baseball or am plugged into the program at all, however, so no idea as if they had to rely on it more. Was hoping there might be others more knowledgeable who might comment on the recruiting class.

Coach Anderson especially loves the baseball bloodlines and we have seen them have some recent success with Vavra, Wilson, Merila. In this years specific case I believe both Giel and Bruett are walk-ons and those are the types of guys where it seems like they maybe even look for those bloodlines more as Merila was a walk-on as well. The Remmington kid who is coached by Gates is a really really good player, I think the tie in with Gates helped us initially establish the relationship there.
 

2023 schedule now listed on website. Looks like a full 56 game schedule. Final non-conference series at home against Creighton is at Siebert Field. No non-conference games in May.
 

I'm not optimistic they'll play that home series against Creighton.

I wish I had some info but that's all I got. I'm starving for some college baseball. One of the most underrated sports out there.
