All Things Elijah Thomas ('15) Thread

By my count, gophers have a scholarship available next semester.

Next year, however, may be a different matter.

Just sayin'.

Would love to see the gophers go after him. I think he would be a good small ball center for us. Sounds like A&M fans aren't too sad to see him go, but kid has tons of talent

I remember Thomas having a soft spot for the U and that we were a legit suitor.

He had a girlfriend who lived here was the rumor.

Funny this popped up, I think it was last weekend A&M played a game and I was looking at the box score. I looked for him and couldn't find him, this explains a lot.

They also had another kid that was featured on one of the mixtapes that Murphy appeared on. That was one hell of a recruting class.

I think one of his mother's really good friends works/ed in the admissions office at the University? Am I remembering that correctly? I'm also pretty sure he did take an unofficial here. There was a picture floating around here at one point of him at TCF Bank Stadium.

Wouldn't mind adding him to the incoming class, but I be he will have plenty of suitors in the Power six

Taking him would be a no brainer from a basketball standpoint. From a scholarship standpoint it would mean either forcing someone out, or not taking anyone in 2017.

IIRC - Jarvis has a Scholarship for 4 years if he wants at the UofM. The NCAA approved and his scholarship will not count as one of the 13 allowed per year.
Okay, makes sense they would make an exception in that scenario. Now the real question is does Pitino still want him and if so is their any mutual interest?

I believe he is helping out with the team in some capacity (quasi student coach asst). Maybe there is some requirement that he continues that to maintain the scholarship.

Edit - Agree with 1406 post below. Bemidji was referring to the hoped for mutual interest of Pitino and Elijah. I was thinking Jarvis. Agree the real question is for Pitino and Thomas to have a mutual interest. That would be good.

I think the mutual interest was about E. Thomas and Minnesota not Jarvis hanging around the team in some Student assistant type role. (which i think is happening)

The Gophers do have a scholarship available immediately for a transfer (presumably at the Semester break). Jarvis does not count towards the Gophers 13 basketball scholarships.

If Elijah wanted to be a Gopher, and the Gophers wanted Elijah, a scholarship wouldn't be an issue for this season. When a scholarship does become an issue is next year where the Gophers have just two graduating players, but three kids signed to LOI's. In that sense they've already used the "Jarvis scholly" for the 2016 season.

You don't have to go back very far in Gopher history to remember a point where they appeared to have 14 guys for 13 scholarships. This last occurred with Trevor Mbakwe getting a 6th year...and Chip Armelin subsequently transferring to Southern Mississippi. If Elijah Thomas ends up on the Gopher roster this year, then you will see a similar situation play out as it did with Mbakwe/Armelin.

per Zags:

Transferring Texas A&M big man Elijah Thomas has visited two schools in the past week.

The 6-foot-9 Thomas tripped to Nebraska Dec. 29-31 and then visited Arizona State over the weekend, where he took in Arizona's 94-82 victory over the Sun Devils.

Under head coach Bobby Hurley, Arizona State recently landed a pledge from 2017 St. Anthony's forward Daniel Mading and is heavily involved for 2016 7-footer Thon Maker, Mading's cousin.

Thomas is also considering Gonzaga, San Diego and Clemson.

"I'm just hoping to find somewhere that I can get an opportunity to show what I can do," Thomas told ESPN.com when he announced his transfer. "I have no bad feelings about anything. I appreciate everything Coach [Billy] Kennedy and the staff did for me, and I'm hoping they are successful. Now I'm going to lean on my family and Coach Wes [Grandstaff] and find a place to start the next chapter of my career."

Go Gophers!!

per ESPN:

Texas A&M freshman big man Elijah Thomas, a Top-50 player coming out of high school, has decided to transfer to Clemson.

"I chose Clemson because of the opportunities at hand to better myself in a great conference," Thomas told ESPN. "Also, the history and the players who played at Clemson were very successful, so the chance to be a part of that makes me want to work hard and win at Clemson."
