All Things Class of 2015 Recruiting - Class Finally Complete? Nope Chris Obekpa visit

HS AAU highlights. Seems to have always been a solid shot blocker. But man was he awkward in HS. Seems to have become more polished. A redshirt year will only further that development. Definitely a solid addition given our number of scholarships and lack of depth in the front court.

I hope he works out better than the last Illinois State transfer...Does this increase the chance of using all 3 open scholarships?

Reggie and Wonk are big boys, Kontae can run, guessing he will play 'some' 4 next to them in year 3 & 4.

It probably reduces the chances of using the opens for this year. You have to save one for Coffey at least.

The way it stands- we have three for this year and 2 for next year= 5 total.

Lynch takes one. Hurt takes one. That leaves 3. No way do you fill all three this spring.

You can't use all 3 this year... 1 has to be open because we have 2 seniors next year and only 1 new commit...

remember even while sitting out the player uses a scholly.

Wouldn't stop most coaches. See Tom Crean

Percentages are another scholarship will open up between now and the summer, whether it be a transfer out of the program or something unforeseen happens with one of the incoming kids.

Really? Even a transfer? I can see where a redshirt does but a transfer?

Reggie Lynch coming here makes Boucher and Ellison the perfect remaining fit. Boucher is a PF in the Big Ten and can shoot from range and Lynch is more back to the basket C- so they could play together.

What am I missing? Lynch takes one of the three scholarships that are available this year and remains on scholarship for his transfer, junior, and senior years. We then only have two left for this year and one more available to us next year. (Barring any unforeseen transfers/etc)

Correct?

Of course a transfer counts as a scholarship. You're not new to this rodeo bga1.

Maybe I'm getting old. I just thought a transfer didn't count as a scholly until they are eligible to play. However, I see the point that the kid does need a scholly for the year off- so I get it. At any rate- that doesn't matter to me much as I see no possible way they would use more than 2 this Spring either way.

Correct.

Could we also see Buggs grad transfer after next season? He'd have had 4 years at the U. I'd love it if he stayed(all for senior players and keeping guys their whole stay) but as far as Creaning goes that's not be so bad if we needed an extra scholarship next year.

Edit: nothing to worry about now when we haven't even used all the scholarships for this year yet.

King and Morris will be in their last year of eligibility next year. 2 scholarships available next year when they leave (for now).

Basically both available 2016 schollys are used between Hurt and Lynch. 1 of the 3 for this spring now used up on Lynch also, I believe? That leaves 2 open scholarships to work with this spring or bank for next year. However the staff chooses.

Nope. Lynch counts against this years scholly and doesn't touch an any that would have been open for next year. We have 2 more this year(2015) to use and 1 more next year(2016), assuming no banked or transfers out.

ahh, I see how that works now. Thanks for clarifying.

I know I'm projecting alot, since neither have played a second in the Big Ten, but can you imagine a Boucher/Lynch combo patrolling the paint in 2016/2017?

If we can get both Ellison and Boucher it will closeout a very nice recruiting class.

Then finish out 2016 with Amir Coffey and we'd be set.
